So Kevin Levine made an AmA thing, and I left this for him. He hasn't responded yet but I want to ask the same thing to you guys. Because I'm genuinely worried that the game industry might not be worth it. But yet I want to dive in and be a part of something really awesome.

The other part of me, and my mother, wants to study something that will earn me alot of money so if I fail in the games industry I can fall back on something instead of being out of the job and walking back to Chicago tail between my legs.
I guess I'm also trying to ask for some confidence from someone who has been doing this for a while.

I may be way too late to this, but check out Ostia if you're a historyhead. Being the empire's port-city throughout their existance would make it quite a fascinating place to see. I know I would love to go there :v:

I have considered entering the industry, and still perhaps am (debating enrolling in AIvancouver) this coming September, but I know how hard it is to get a foothold because there is (like most industries) someone who will work harder for longer for less money and do a better job. It's about proving you're unique and bring something new to the table. I have a sketch book full of dreams that I've turned into game concepts, of which I bet a few of them would really take off, but you can't just go up to Rockstar and say "hi I can code and map environments, but look at this idea". If only.

I can't get over a guy who broke up with me and cut all communication with me because I said there was a [u]possibility[/u] of me joining a military branch.
