i'm pretty sure it's just the locals of this kid's community that looks down towards occupations of trains. I know a people here that wants to work in the train and railway industry, and no one said anything bad about them wanting to be in such fields

I like to collect MegaMan, Sonic & Pokemon merchandise because it relates to what I like...
But people treat me like I'm a faggotty weeaboo because of that. It makes me sad.

Nice, I went from stupidly hotmodding normal 5mW laser pointers to the big boy toys, I had to learn everything from ground up. Before I started building I had extracted cd player diodes and practiced soldering them and all that jazz

Exactly. Why is knowing the name of 100 basket ball players better then knowing all 649 pokemon? Knowing more should be praised instead of insulted.
I love Big trucks, I love Computer hardware. And everything related.
I love programming, networking, and downhill skateboarding. I don't get why people think its weird that I like computers and hitting 50mph on my skateboard.
I mess around designing websites, playing PC games (consoles are bad) and collecting retro micro computers.
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
I love building PC's too.
a lot of people don't like my choice in music
dubstep/electro house/radiohead
also supporting gay marriage isn't something they like about me that much either
I play airsoft, ukulele, banjo, guitar, kazoo, piano, a bunch of different synths, sing, longboard, follow fashion, cook, urbex, photography, shoot real guns, and occasionally play vidya gaems.
Here in England (In the North East atleast) a pretty "socially acceptable" hobby is being in the Army Cadets. Ive been in 4 years, built my confidence right up, made loads of mates (and a few girlfriends) from it aswell as getting to get alot of control over others.
Nothing beats living in a forest for 3 days, patrolling in and out all day and night. Eating rations, having a crack on with mates and getting attacked every few hours. Same goes for for the other things we do such as shooting, rock climbing and all that stuff. If your from Britain and dont have anything to do. Give it a try! Its free and you get to shoot things, what more could you ask for? :v:
I skate, so generally everyone has this preconception that i'm a pothead and like to talk to me about such topics. "DUDE CHANTZ YOU LOOK STONED BRO!" and "DUDE YOU LOOK SO HIGH RIGHT NOW". Then there's those kids who love to ask me to teach them to do specific tricks, despite them actually skating, owning a board, etc..
Drawing. NOT ANIME.
Respectable?
Edit:
Fucking despise this idiotic obsession with BMX's and skateboards, especially in 12 year olds. IMO it's just them trying to be ub3r Co0ol l337 g4ng$tazZ but unlike most hobbies it is unlikely to really get you anywhere in life...
Well quite a lot of the time social status is mostly based on if you're good at sports or not. As to why, I have no clue. The people who have a high social status due to physical capability tend not to have much of personality, from what I can see.

I joined the ATC. It's a bit crappy in my opinion, but then again it may not be my thing.

The ATC doesnt do much in the ways of fieldcraft and stuff. I go there to teach weapons handling and its reallly strict and boring. ACF is pretty chilled and does alot more shooty stuff. Hell, we have been on live firing with the Royal Artillery calling in live fire missions because we are supported by the MOD and did a course so we knew radio protocol.

So I can't ride a bike or longboard without being a faggot who is going nowhere in life?

where I live the only respectable cadet to be is army cadets. Sea cadets get called gay constantly, and we call the air cadets the chair cadets. most people hate this guy at my old college who was air cadet, because he always boasted about how he could go straight to officer class thanks to his involvement in air cadets. I just straight up told him once that I nor any soldier beneath him would ever respect him because of that.
I go to the gym but I never mention it because there's been no progression and I don't look like it at all
I also play (gasp) video games and spend my time sitting on my ass being a useless piece of shit most of the time
Honestly. Cadets was the best decision I have ever taken. it has literally changed my life. From being a fat socially awkward kid with no confidence. To a skinnier, more social guy with the confidence to run a company of cadets on a weekend camp! Its brilliant
People in high school are arrogant, and like being smartasses. Its common for someone to be bulled because of a different view or 'hobby.' An example would be myself, I am training to become a police officer. People in my school all have the "fuck the police" mentality (mainly because everyone is rich)
to protect and serve.... the goverment
I play rugby and American Football... although I live in Ireland.
Also I find water kinda trippy cool to be in... don't know why though.... plus I hunt... mainly deer!
Does being idle or spacing out or napping count as hobbies because I don't really do anything else in my free time.
In today's world (especially High School), you will be ridiculed for having any kind of 'different' hobby, view, or interest. Hell, I love hockey, but I'm also a huge game nerd. No, I'm not one of the faggots who plays Black Ops and says their a nerd, I'm one of the faggots that wants to buy an Ocarina and Master Sword. I get made fun of for wearing a Shanahan Rangers jersey. I live in Dearborn, right next to Detroit, so the Wings pride is strong. What I don't understand is why I'd get made fun of for wearing said jersey, when Shanahan played for the Wings at one point. It doesn't compute...
I also get made fun of for Dirt Biking, which makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Dirt Biking takes so much more physical strength and stamina than any team sport I can think of. 'Oh you throw a ball around and tackle other men? I do 60 MPH on a motorized 200 pound bike and clear 80Ft tables with only a helmet on...'
I've also been made fun of for liking cars. A teacher of mine mentioned the movie 'Bullitt' starring Steve McQueen, one of the greatest car movies of all time. I said that I've seen the movie before so the teacher threw a question in my direction. "Do you know what kind of car he was driving?" "You mean the 68' Fastback in Highland Green with a 390 in it? Yes I know the car"
Needless to say I had a few snarky comments thrown my way.

My automerge!
any hobby can be socially acceptable - it's about how you apply yourself socially with regards to your hobby.
as an example, i've always had too many hobbies - they're varied but i haven't been properly applied to any of them until recently. piano, guitar, tae kwon do, american football, various art mediums, video games etc.
some of these hobbies you might argue are more or less socially acceptable than others. i'd argue, however, that they're all as acceptable as each other, depending on how you apply them and yourself.
there are people who are obsessive with a hobby or hobbies and they seem only capable of talking about said hobby and very little else. i met a guy in the pub tonight i haven't seen for years. we both used to play a lot of video games together and we're both doing similar game art design courses at university. all he could discuss with me was video games. you could say this was because he knew it was common ground between us. when two more friends joined us, however, he could still only talk about games. someone else mentioned having money issues related to freshers week... this guy brings the conversation back to the money he has spent on video games.
this is when things get socially unacceptable. but you could do this with any hobby at all. i had a friend who used to get a bit drunk and hit on girls by talking about his favourite nfl quaterbacks. needless to say they weren't impressed. doesn't matter how cool or nerdy your hobby is - you can still make it seem like the saddest and most boring crap in the world.
on the flipside though, any hobby can be interesting to any person as long as you talk about it in the right way. you can talk about the personal impact a hobby has or make some sort of link between your hobby and that of another person's very easily and this can instantly generate interesting conversation.
say you're talking to a girl who does dancing. you can relate that to how you've done martial arts for years - the same physical determination, the same commitment, many similar situations.
so yeh i guess that's my 2 pence
my hobby is poppers :q:
I'm a sports enthusiast and I love all sorts of various random things that people would label as 'nerdy'. I can understand that there are a bunch of douchebag jocks and jackasses out there, but don't hate on my sports!
I've always wanted to take up either bow-making or vacuum forming. It'd be great because I'd enjoy it and be able to make some cash off it on the side.

good wood for a bow to fire just right is a bit expensive, that is if you're making recurve wooden bows, which in my eyes will always be a bit better than compound
I shoot a bow every once in a while

Yeah. The plan is to just start with crap wood to try and get the technique right. Until I can establish any sort of quality standard I don't really mind how the bow fires. I'll definitely making recurve bows, not a big fan of compound bows.
