There is a very real message behind this. The world history that we generally see is European. The western world takes a very Euro-centrist stance on history, often ignoring the triumphs of the Caliphate, Songhai, Swahili States, and Indians.
We all hear about the silk road from an early age, but how often are you taught about the Indian Ocean trade routes that far surpassed the Silk Road but didn't actually pass goods to people in Europe?
Taking history classes in school would make you think that everyone outside of Europe(minus the Babylonians and Egyptians) were a bunch of barbarians who sat around raiding and pillaging white people at various points in history.

It's an accepted fact among evolutionary biologists and anthropologists that mankind originated in Africa.
Nobody is trying to hide the fact that humanity gets "blacker" the further back you go.

Not to mention America's hesitance towards accepting Indian history as American history. They disregard it because they'd rather just accept that America is the biggest example of stealing the neighbors TV ever. European people always destroyed everyone else's sense of self when they entered. Luckily, we've cut back on that in europe.
America has no pre-1600s history to almost all americans. That's food for thought. Because it was all there, as native culture and folklore.
