Honestly Trump would have to try hard to lose this debate.
Yeah he will just continue to lie and says lots of words that mean nothing like he has done the election, so it will be impossible to say Trump lost, because that is what he has been doing the whole time.
i don't think this will be as chaotic as people expect. trump will probably give a mild performance in order to appear presidential. even he's not stupid enough to pull his usual shit at the debates...i think.
538 polls-only forecast. Kinda resemble to polls conducted on a certain referendum recently.

wow, what happened?
wasn't trump like 15 points behind before?

That's why our drinking game involves keywords like "China".

If anything, Trump managing to speak for 90 minutes without saying anything deplorable would be more of an earth-shattering event than the opposite
I mean I literally can't imagine such a thing
If Pepe the Frog makes it onto the debate stage I will change my vote to Giant Meteor

i'm just keeping my expectations low. people seem convinced he'll go up there and start screaming "GAS THE KIKES RACE WAR NOW" and hillary will instantly jump up 30 points in the polls but i don't see that happening.
wow, what happened?

At one point he was 6-7% (or thereabouts) behind in aggregates, largely because of the Khan controversy and other dumb shit he said. But large bumps in either direction tend to reverse, and so it did. Also that isn't a poll, it's the chance of either of them winning. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump is gonna poll even better the next week because of the debate, but of course it depends on whether he ends up keeping his composure or not. Let's hope he doesn't.
Also, to the people who said a Clinton victory was all but certain a month ago, I told you so. Not that I'm happy about it.

Mostly due to Selzer and Company (a A+ pollster) poll now showing Trump leading for the first time.

I don't expect him to go nuclear, I just don't know how he can survive in a 90-minute one-on-one debate with a silent audience and a focus on policy. Even if he tries to be presidential, I don't think the guy is smart or knowledgeable enough to get through it. But we'll just have to see. It could all come down to what kind of questions Lester Holt asks.

his biographer seems to think there really is nothing substantial there, but we'll see

personally I feel like I'm having a stroke every time he launches into one of his fragmented run-on sentences
Go trump I guess, idk anymore.

Personally I think it depends how deep the moderators end up prying - Trump can probably come up with something that really means nothing, but he said "great" and "tremendous" a couple of times and the lack of meaning in his statement may be opaque to many viewers. Imagine if a moderator had asked Trump what the nuclear triad was, though, after he already gave an answer. And kept prying until he'd either have to say something completely wrong (with the moderator correcting him) or admit that he didn't know and just made up some shit. He may be slightly better prepared this time around, though, - but obviously he doesn't have shit on Clinton's political knowledge, and she really needs to push that and show that he's simply not qualified by comparison.

There's so many sides to it though, some have suggested Clinton could come off as condescending and harsh if she goes hard after Trump. Or maybe Trump's 'rigged system' message would hit home if the moderator is rough with him? It feels like we just have no idea what to expect
My one fan theory is that there will be at least one thing that Trump says during the debate that his campaign will then have to backpedal on or 'clarify' in a statement the next day.
Is this going to be on comedy central??
For real tho will there be online streams?

I think Clinton supporters should be more worried about Clinton being able to hold her composure for 90 minutes, given how poor her form was during the entire last month.

The super shitty thing is that even if the moderator is totally fair, if Trump gets stumped he can still claim it was rigged even if what he said was total horseshit.
Look at the bingo card RBM posted; live fact checking is a bad thing to Trump and people who support him and moderators calling out his nonsense is interpreted as an attack. Literally all Trump has to do is not lie for 90 minutes and he will come out of thia debate looking better and even if he does lie it doesn't even matter because expectations are so low and he has been claiming a rigged race from the start.
This is going to be an incredibly cathartic experience.

I didn't realize at first but the video in the OP isn't just a countdown, it will also be the live stream.

Definitely - I'm not suggesting she should focus on Trump, just be completely convincing on policy. If Trump fumbles around with enough questions maybe people will come to the conclusion that robo-clinton firing confident responses on full auto might in the end be the better choice.
But yeah it could go either way, guess I'll find out tomorrow - staying up till 3am or whatever isn't really my thing when I have to get up in the morning.

At this point, I just don't know what to think about this shitshow. Part of me thinks Trump may have purposefully set his own bar low for this exact reason.

Oh shit, the 12D Buckaroo game turning out to be real at such a late stage would be the greatest debate twist of all time
Actually Trump's campaign did release an economic policy document today which it said was "the whole chessboard"

Yeah watch him come out and actually have a good debate
The crazy expectations on both sides are pretty amusing. Some people really expect Trump to call Clinton a bitch, or Clinton to pass out on the stage.

That looks more serious than anything I've seen him put out to date.

Both happening together is a possibility.

Shit I'd love to see both happen
Considering Trump has managed to pull back I would wager he won't be saying anything too drastic in the debates, he must have half decent people in his camp who are reigning him in.

In what order though.
Her passing out with Trump immediately calling her a bitch, that would be great.

If hillary pokes at his ego even once he's gonna go ballistic
This is a really interesting article on Clinton's debate prep, though it doesn't help her 'expectation gap' because she's clearly been going all-out to prepare for this thing.
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/09/26/politics/hillary-clinton-debate-prep-strategy/
Apparently Clinton has primarily been preparing for a 'presidential Trump' rather than a balls-out crazy one, but she has spent time on both
