green apple salad with a chilli, garlic, fish sauce and lime juice dressing (hot, salty and sour), chilli and coriander king prawns and spring onions, chopped cucumber and salted cashews - yum!
What would you recommend as an alternative to fish sauce? I don't mind non fish sea food, but anything that as much brushes past a fish, sea or freshwater, makes me gag.
they're not huge (3-4cm diameter), but they're substantially bigger than the normal prawns we get here, which average about 2cm diameter, and they call them king prawns here these are your regular size prawns [t]http://images.mysupermarket.co.uk/Products_1000/91/103291.jpg[/t] and these are the 'king' prawns [t]http://www3.sainsburys.co.uk/littleones/images/recipes/large/avocado-mango--and-prawns-with-a-delicious-dressing--.jpg[/t] the biggest we get here are tiger prawns, and they're normally pretty expensive, but they are huge
I guess I was thinking of the colossal shrimp we get here The shrimp in your bottom picture look more like you average shrimp here, maybe they just come bigger in America [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline] Small amounts of fish sauce doesn't taste fishy but still adds a lot, I use it in some stir fry's and I have some picky eaters in my family, I just don't tell them it's in there :) You could probably just use soy sauce thoguh
Thanks for the soy sauce idea. And I know that fish sauce isn't always strong, but it just kills the meal for me, no matter how little amounts. It's worse than sauerkraut in segedin ghoulashes :P
i guess you could try a little soy sauce, but it does have it's own taste (other than just saltiness) that i'm not sure would compare if you ignored the fact it's called Fish sauce you'd probably be okay, but i know that's easier said than done. it's just a salty, amber liquid. and it's not thick, but it's definitely thicker than soy sauce. personally, i cannot stand anchovies (which is what the one i have is made from) but i really cannot notice the fishy taste in it, it's just a savoury and salty taste.

Had french toast, was pretty good.
I tried to make an omelette but it came out like an aborted fetus mixed with scrambled egg. Eventually it cooked but god damn I didn't know I could fuck up that badly WITH AN OMELETTE
Donner meat and chips. I'll go on a diet soon I swear.
Just ate a pizza. Minced reindeet meat, blue cheese, mushrooms and sliced peach. It was tasty. Stomach seems to protest though.
Sandwich with baked egg, mushrooms, bacon and Gouda cheese melted over it.
Just had a quick chicken & apple salad sandwich before I left late for class. I made it yesterday but nobody else wanted to eat it.
you'd think so, but it really does work! you've just gotta be brave to try it you start with a sharpness from the apple and lime juice, then heat from the chilli and garlic, then the saltiness from the fish sauce and cashews. the nuts add a nice solid crunch, the cucumber gives you a bit of mildness, and prawns are just awesome anyway
Decided to put a red apple in my red pepper salad today after seeing your green apple salad. Simple put it was delicious, was the sweet note to compliment the salad and because the apples are so juicy, you got a little burst of juice when you bite into it. Thanks.

I don't know if it's the perspective but everything looks so tiny! Yet so delicious [editline]8th November 2012[/editline] I will always like American pancakes more than crepes
That looks delicious, did you make your own pancakes?

Yet so delicious [editline]8th November 2012[/editline] I will always like American pancakes more than crepes
It was pretty small yes but more than enough to fill me up, the pancakes were just a bit smaller than a DVD.
That looks delicious, did you make your own pancakes?
I did indeed, I used these really small frying pans so that the pancakes and the eggs would be the same size and they'd fit perfectly together.
It's fast food, but I'd say it's still at least a notch better to your standard MCD. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6252145/fotos and stuff/WP_000230.jpg[/t]

I have never had American style pancakes before, it might be my breakfast tomorrow.
Lobster bisque, which I made myself. As always, it was delightful although I felt awful after having eaten it.
Why did you feel awful?
Would you mind posting the recipe? I have never had American style pancakes before, it might be my breakfast tomorrow.
This is what I followed as I'd never made them myself before and it gave the quantities to serve the exact amount I wanted, pretty straight forward really. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fluffyamericanpancak_74828 Only difference I did was using 2 small eggs instead of one big one, came out fine though.
Why did you feel awful?
Because it's a bowl of heavy cream, butter, and lobster. There is absolutely nothing good for you about it.
[t]http://localhostr.com/files/Md2P58I/DSC_0252.JPG[/t] I had some sort of harrisa ish chicken with flatbread/chappati/roti It was pretty good, even if the chicken was a bit dry
Because it's a bowl of heavy cream, butter, and lobster. There is absolutely nothing good for you about it.
I thought you meant you felt awful that a lobster had to die for you. I was going to tell you to man up. Thanks for the link Justin Case

Spent the last few hours making some plain bagels from scratch. I didn't get the exterior very smooth and they came out looking like mangled biscuits with holes in them. They also tended to taste like biscuits. Oh well, I know what to do next time and they are pretty good regardless.
Just made myself something new that I thought up in about 5 seconds cup of boiled oatmeal with a blended up banana thrown in, smells godly and tastes pretty good too.
I made an omelette stuffed with chunks of thick ham and onions, seasoned with basic salt and pepper. On the side I had homemade cumquat marmalade on toast and orange juice.
