We'll probably get a bunch of coins/levels and the join date will change after adopting an old account
Was it said that it was being looked into that current gold members might get something special on newpunch? Because I think I remember hearing that gold member won't be a thing on the new forums. A good special thing should be letting us start off with an 80x160 avatar. :v:
I remember garry said that gold members would likely get some levels and coins which they may be able to use to get bigger avatars. Nothing is set in stone yet.
It's entirely possible that the "Child Molester" rating can exist without using it to literally call another user a child molester. I'm sure the community will come up with some alternate and unofficial meaning for it, whether that be positive or negative.
I choose to believe it represents the person having extraordinarily bad or outdated fashion sense, since quite often you'll see kiddy fiddlers looking like they're fresh out of the 1970s
Will old/new accounts be linked via email address?
Facepunch ratings have traditionally not been used to mean exactly what they say on the tin. For example, "useful" is often used to call someone a tool and "optimistic" is used to point out something gay. I would argue that in the same vein that "dumb" is not mainly used to point out a dumb opinion but instead used as a "I heavily disagree" or "this post contradicts my viewpoint" -- much like how reddit's downvote is used, except, unlike reddit ratings have no effect on the visibility of the post (which is a good thing).

I don't understand why though. Optimism and Useful can be used completely normally. When would you ever use this rating literally?
It seems like it's just a temporary beta thing though so that's my only positive.
Maybe not the right place to ask this, but this new forum have only 2 external services to login, so.
Will you bring back twitter to list of external auth. services and will there be steam auth.?
UPD
Also what about linking old acounts?
I can't see Child Molester remaining in the official build. They're Facepunch's official forums, after all. Facepunch is a company.
Will old/new accounts be linked via email address?
I reckon there is little point is asking this just yet.
According to the planned timeline, this won't be implemented until next year.
Granted the feedback/problems some users had with labpunch regarding emails that didn't turn up, I would not be surprised if the method was altered slightly.
Garry might have some idea right now, but closer to it's implementation is when we'll know if the system's going to have to require changes to make it work out.
It would be nice to hack in callback into the forum, if garry wants to fuck around with the php and mysql queries
Means that you could link accounts with a couple of clicks and relatively guaranteed success.
Until you retire the forums entirely

I can see the headlines now:
Garry Newman, head of Facepunch Studios, the mind behind Garry's Mod and Rust, accused of sexual assault by 200 members of his own Forum
Who ran the survey for Facepunch's choice of game of the year and such last year?

A little interesting to some;
The page takes about 40 seconds for me to load on chromium
Edge is around 16 seconds
Firefox Dev is 6 seconds, jesus fucking christ
For the most part it is, but when I load the OIFY thread it takes like two minutes to load the page. Obviously, there is a considerable amount of spam in it (no media however), but on oldpunch the page would have loaded within seconds.
Does it take a while to load the page for anyone else?
I don't think oldpunch could handle posts with almost 10 million characters.
There's only one way to find out

Calling all Kiwi
https://forum.facepunch.com/f/fastthread/cwbx/2/#postdbxo
Just under 438000 worth of characters
Forums totally okay with it.
Pasting that though on Firefox took a while.
lmao my browser hung for about 15 seconds before it loaded fine
I just tried posting the entirety of Homers Illiad, so the forum decided shit the bed and delete my post. :v:
Not liking the whole grey on white text thing

The events page is damn near illegible, even though it's blue on grey.

do you use custom css for oldpunch (like a dark theme)? i don't and the text is a readable rgb(74,74,74) for me
you use coins to increase your avatar size
Great, the bullshit of modern video games forum'ified.
Bad Input, (612725) too large
Think I broke it guys.
That explain why trying to post 1.2+ million characters would kill the page completely.
Instead of designating users' own posts with an indention and a colored line, maybe you could make their username/rank section be colored separately, similar to how current Facepunch makes your own posts have a Yellow Gradient.
Something like a light blue or light yellow could probably be worth considering.

would you rather get "loot crates" with random coin amounts for every 100 posts you make?

Oh shit, didn't know that effected that. Thought it wouldn't since it being a sub domain and all.

The good thing about the colored line is that even if you are scrolling through a large number of posts fast, you will likely notice it.
I really like the gradient system Facepunch has, especially the way the 'new post' system uses it (please keep that, too). Features like that make this forum a dream to use in comparison to anywhere else I've been. If anything the colored posts could be expanded, with options to show colors for moderator posts, thread creator posts, or just specific users you like.
How do I link accounts on newpunch again?
