And the thread was closed at the end of the day rather than being left open. A fair verdict considering even I could tell there were valid sources being used. All it took was a quick Google search. Or are you genuinely arguing that people should be banned if a tabloid is ever referenced within a legitimate source of news for an OP?
I don't see the problem of using ONLY legitimate sources rather than having to use left-wing propaganda/right-wing tabloid trash alongside legitimate sources.
I'm a bit late on this, but why were you demodded in the first place? Activity?
Long personal story short: I was taking care of my sick grandmother for a few months, and as a result my posting and moderating took a sharp downturn, along with my life in general. Basically, in 3 months I had like 50 posts and 10 bans, so Hezzy had Garry remove my mod status. It wasn't until spring that I could move out of her place and get back to actually living again.
Do I need to start banning anybody who mentions Tudd again? I'll do it
Do I need to start banning anybody who mentions Tudd again? I'll do it
Until you do we'll keep getting one-off posts like Reagy's where "they hate to stir the hornets nest" but continue to hit it with a baseball bat.
Hope she’s doing alright now. Banned user more like good user.
Actually, it cannot be any worse that it is right now, because something I've been expecting to happen for over 15 years finally happened back in July. The end result is now my mother (her daughter) lives with her and is taking care of her instead. Let me put it to you this way, if I posted the entire unedited story in the depression thread, I'd give everyone there even worse depression. [editline]19th November 2017[/editline] The Road isn't even this depressing. [editline]19th November 2017[/editline] Ok that's enough about my sob story, does anyone know a way to make newpunch not pitch black, but a nice dark slate gray? I'm not very smart when it comes to that sort of thing, maybe some smart cookie who knows all about it can make a tutorial thread on newpunch or something. That would be super useful.
Do I need to start banning anybody who mentions Tudd again? I'll do it
go ahead, because talks about him just never end.
Multiple people in that thread pointed out the tabloids used The ruling from that thread was to report threads with shit sources like the ones that were used, just because one legitimate source was used does not mean it negates the fact that tabloid trash was used as well
it kinda does. tabloids aren't strictly bad sources, tmz for example is 100% a tabloid yet they're the premier source for celeb deaths. if a reputable news source picks up on a tabloids story it's probably because the tabloids story was good the crux of the problem is that in the UK tabloid means something different than it does elsewhere. tabloids are just a short form newspaper literally everywhere else in the world. there are plenty of reliable tabloids, the times and the independent come to mind as such. here in the US we have a different term for what brits call tabloids, it's called yellow journalism. maybe if we banned yellow journalism instead of tabloids we wouldn't have this issue
Do I need to start banning anybody who mentions Tudd again? I'll do it
It will remain an issue that people sincerely care about regardless, and that's really the crux of the issue - we're full circle again and nobody is happy. This toxicity and drama surrounding peoples' posting habits won't die with the discussion. I'm not really that concerned myself about whatever has been argued but obviously people will keep bringing up this tired old issue if it can't be reasonably settled, and I'm sure there's some way it can be since not every issue brought up here remains such a hot topic. We've had amiable resolutions to divisive topics.
Yes, tabloid sources have been bannable when they're used as a source of news for the OP. So let's take a look at Tudd's last started threads and see what sources he's used. "NJSIA Approves New Guidelines ..." - source is from CBS Local "Woman 'punched in the face'..." source is from The Independent "MoviePass drops pricing..." source is from TechCrunch (tech news website) "GayTimes sacks editor..." source is from The Guardian "Colorado Doctors suspect..." source is from 9News (Colorado news company) [granted this title was sensationalized somewhat by Tudd's lack of changing it to reflect the article's details] "Teacher suspended for..." source is BBC I could go on, but Tudd does go out of his way to find genuine news sources for the OP, or at least attempts to. Now whether you want to make it bannable to bring up opinion pieces in the rest of the thread is another discussion, but as far as I can tell these are all valid sources.
He usually does, even in the politics discord he'll sometimes link something he'd love to post but can't because he's unable to find a good enough source.

Here's Newpunch currently with Stylus and Awfully Dark turned off:
It would be nice if Newpunch cycled between light and dark themes based on the time of day in your timezone. am I the only one who wants this? :v:
i think that it would be good if you put in a feature where you can stamp your forum coins into commemorative thread coins which you could display on your profile as memorabilia from your forums adventures
:snip:
It would be nice if Newpunch cycled between light and dark themes based on the time of day in your timezone.
I think a custom CSS could potentially do this. IIRC CSS has access to your system clock.
I think a custom CSS could potentially do this. IIRC CSS has access to your system clock.
How about a userstyle where the sun and moon move across the top of the screen in accurate proportions to the locations of them in the sky relative to the user, as well as background color corresponding to the sky of the color too :v:

Onto another matter, how exactly do account merges work, and is it still possible to do, or is there anyone willing to do it?
I think a custom CSS could potentially do this. IIRC CSS has access to your system clock.
Perhaps you're thinking of Javascript?
I think a custom CSS could potentially do this. IIRC CSS has access to your system clock.
CSS is just documentation telling a website how it should look. Can't really do much other than fuck with its appearance.
It would be nice if Newpunch cycled between light and dark themes based on the time of day in your timezone. am I the only one who wants this? :v:
I want it switch between the themes really quickly making a strobe effect
Perhaps you're thinking of Javascript?
Probably. I haven't written any CSS since I was, like, twelve
How about a userstyle where the sun and moon move across the top of the screen in accurate proportions to the locations of them in the sky relative to the user, as well as background color corresponding to the sky of the color too :v:
change it for weather too, so like when it snows you get little snowflakes floating down and when it rains you get raindrops in the background with looping audio of rainfall
Some locational based themes would be really nice. For example the UK theme could have drizzle you have to wipe away with your mouse and the Australian theme could have the page content upside down.
Everytime you click with the American theme you hear a gunshot.
It's a shame that it will just be drowned out by the constant real gunfire inside and outside of my home
i shot at the agree rating to agree with this post [editline]19th November 2017[/editline] monitors fucked up now
change it for weather too, so like when it snows you get little snowflakes floating down and when it rains you get raindrops in the background with looping audio of rainfall
Didn't we used to have a snowflake gif background around Christmas, way back in the day?
Didn't we used to have a snowflake gif background around Christmas, way back in the day?
I'm pretty sure it was enabled 1-2 years ago, so it wasn't really back in the day
I'm pretty sure it was enabled 1-2 years ago, so it wasn't really back in the day
I've got the memory of a goldfish, so maybe. :v: Looking forward to seeing it again this year, hopefully.
change it for weather too, so like when it snows you get little snowflakes floating down and when it rains you get raindrops in the background with looping audio of rainfall
now i won't even need to peek through my blinds like a paranoid schizophrenic looking for gang stalkers to tell what the weather is like outside, i like this idea
Didn't we used to have a snowflake gif background around Christmas, way back in the day?
I believe it was an overlay of snowflakes falling Some people bitched about it destroying their cpu
Yeah but they got really fucking massive and even scared me a bunch of times. Great times.
If you're scared of a snowflake who's the REAL snowflake???
