Yeah that is fucked.

Probably should pm that kind of thing directly to a mod rather than link it in a popular thread for people to see in the future.
Well, you saw it didn't you? (As well as the reports.)
I feel the need to point out it does take a little time to purge shit like that, and that if you PM an active online mod they'll very likely open and read it almost immediately and take action. If you feel it's really important, report and PM, but there's no need to bring it here like it's show and tell.
Asaratha has rejoined the Moderator team!
[editline]8th November 2017[/editline]
Let's just clear up that nobody was hunting as you put it. Somebody made a complaint to a Moderator who investigated and found that the source of your avatar is indeed pornographic.
You then contacted me and I explained that it was fine as it wasn't overtly obscene. I have told the Moderators this.
Why are you bringing this up days after it happened and was dealt with? Furthermore, why are you phrasing it like it is an ongoing thing?
Because it's an excellent opportunity to tell people that the pic is cropped from porn of course. You think he/she chose that pic out of artistic merit?
Of course it's because he/she gets a kick out of it and it's a good way of mentioning it and putting attention to it.

Are we on a farm because that's a mighty fine strawman.
I had mods telling me conflicting things, one saying an avatar is fine and the other telling me I'll get banned for it, so I posted in here to get a statement from the mods that could also be seen by everyone. A third mod who wishes to remain anonymous actually told me to post about it.
Since it's a newly implemented rules there seems to have been disagreements/misunderstandings about them.
:snip: let's not do this dance
Sorry for assuming things. That was not nice. My apologies.
[editline]8th November 2017[/editline]
I also would like to change the topic and now that we have Hezzy back I would like to drop a subject that I always enjoyed but needs some time upfront for organization:

Christmas Cards
[editline]9th November 2017[/editline]
Maybe we could do it Secret Santa style so we wouldn't have to put our adresses on a public site. Not sure if I am breaking any rules by talking about the other options and also I think it would be a shame to leave a huge part of the forum out
What happened to flag dog? I didn't see a reason in the OP

Flagdog is down, are you? Don't be a square, get down right now!
Flagdog is down, are you? Don't be a square, get down right now!
But it's hip to be square. But seriously.. flagdog wasn't really necessary.

Ehh, it helped with some stuff. One way I used it was if someone's english was a bit off. I always went to the flagdog to see if that was why but now I keep looking down for it and it's gone. Come back doggy! We miss you.

i am morbidly curious as to what it was

I don't really have that much of a stake in this, the title's benign enough that I don't mind if it's present, but I don't see any way that somebody on the forums could look at that image and not be able to tell that it's cropped porn. It's got hentai written all over it

was good for some threads in SH/PD to see what country the original article was about/set in.
I'm not sure if there is anything the mods can do about it but sometimes when I post a new thread and try to preview the formatting, it goes to the Cloudflare screen that asks me to click the box then it just goes to a blank page. I've taken to just copy/pasting my entire post to avoid losing it. I suppose it could be something on my end though.
It's not a big deal, just a bit inconvenient when I am trying to [del]create and shape a narrative designed to push my political ideology onto the impressionable minds of Facepunchers[/del] post threads about news I find interesting.
Why not make it a rule for PD/SH threads to have shortcut of name of the country it's happening in like this [COUNTRY]? It's already a thing for UK stuff for the most part. It'd honestly make orienting in the news section a bit easier.

Spoilering just in case.
[sp]It was titled "Guess the meat," I think. He posted a picture of a bunch of skinned dogs. The objective was to guess the variety of meat and then post another picture of meat. It was borderline gore.[/sp]

We can’t do anything about that, no. It’s super annoying though we know! Editing threads sucks sometimes because of it.

I’m okay with this personally.
Are there any clear criteria of what separates post-able news from opinion pieces?

Stuff like this seems to ride the line, sometimes I've thought about posting 538 stuff and whatnot but decided it'd be too risky.

imo 538 provides enough data-driven content to defend their status as an opinion piece. I'm not a mod who can say if it's okay or not but thats how I feel about it.

i personally think well-sourced opinion pieces should be allowed so long as they are labeled as such in the title
is it just me or is the new forum coming along really fast

I'm sure the issue will arise where some very vocal individuals will argue Milo is a valid source of political news and opinion. Opinions as a subject line are a pretty slippery slope even by themselves, considering it's hard to justify validating ones opinions over another to people who aren't willing to listen or understand.

i personally think that opinion pieces work pretty well as a jumping off point for discussion. if someone posts a milo opinion post i have a good feeling that people in polidicks would be pretty good at blowing them out of the water

I mean that's the problem, a lot of opinion pieces are well sourced. But what'd count as well-sourced enough?

You'd have to have another completely separate section for opinion pieces, and at point you may as well include blogs into the equation to expand on it further to justify its existence.

4 (if you count videos) news/politics forums is more than enough though.
Maybe it would actually be better to use GD more for this stuff tbh. Or a relevant news article that you then post the opinion piece with as extra reading.
At the moment, we don't allow opinion pieces since they can kind of be all over the place.
But that 538 article doesn't really read like an opinion piece to me, so I'd say it's okay? Another mod may disagree though.
