I can speak from experience when saying: Rats are just awesome pets. Mine would just chill on my shoulders while I was on the computer. i have had 2 rats and about 4 or 5 hamsters. Those two rats were better than all of my hamsters combined. Do yourself a favor. Get a rat. [editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
the pet I want is a tortoise
Worthless. It is literally a rock that eats. [editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
I bought my Rat about a year ago, I let him climb on my knee and all, but I still reckon he's gonna bite me again. He's already done it twice...
My rat bit me twice. But both times as soon as he realized my finger wasnt the food I had in it just a minute before he stopped and went on his merry way.
I've never had a rat, but I have had a hamster. Use to put it on my RC car and drive it around. But hey I was 7.
The fact that rats are sold in the same section as hamsters, mice, and other rodents is a real injustice. They're in an entirely different league. I guess it's their small size and aesthetic similarities that cause people to generalize them as an animal of the same caliber.
I still fucking hate rats
rates are one of the disgusting animal!!
Rats are like the cutest thing ever.
Sounds like maybe they shared a disease of some sort :( Some rats are known to become so depressed over losing a companion that they will die from the stress. I'm sorry to hear that, man :/
Yeah, we reckoned it was the stress, the other one basically just went to sleep and died of old age, but it didn't show any signs of illness beforehand... I'm tempted to get some more, but at the moment I don't have any room, so I'd have to keep them near our dog, which wouldn't be fair on either of them. When I move out later this year I might get some. On a different note, the title of champion pet escapist has to go my uncle's old pet hermit crab. It used to break out of the fish tank (generally by pushing up the wire mesh on top), then go on an epic trek across his house. It scared the shit out of his cats, but sadly died when trying to climb his stairs due to dehydration.
You see in the "oil a man", we call them there "R-A-Ts" Longtails or Rants, 'is bad luck yah see I DEMAND THE CENSORING OF THIS ARTICLE, IT IS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE MANX PEOPLE
What the hell are you talking about?

I have a ferret :3:
Yea I hate RATs. I know someone that had a RAT, it got on their computer and started to mess with his webcam and saw all his keystrokes. Sadly he had to reinstall his computer to get the RAT off.
I had some rats. They were cool.
No matter how much you take care of your pet rat, it may still bite and defecate at will. Hamsters, mice, gerbils, and rabbits are much less aggressive pets. My family has had plenty of each. Just because rats are seen as pests more often than most rodents, that doesn't mean people aren't smart enough to know the difference between a pest and a tamed pet. Rats do make cool pets I'd agree, but I woulden't say they're misunderstood, especially because an owner is quite likely to get bitten during the pets lifetime.
In some store I went to, they had rats coming out of the toilet, I can only imagine how it would be if someone took a shit there.
rabbits are much less aggressive pets.
Bullshit I've had a lot of pissy rabbits that bit for no reason at all except "Hur you think i'm cute and cuddly? BITE"
Bullshit I've had a lot of pissy rabbits that bit for no reason at all except "Hur you think i'm cute and cuddly? BITE"
I had 2 like that, both female, would bite if you went near them. But the other 10+ rabbits were nice. Do you have or had rats?
I once had a petrat. Sadly, he literally went crazy one day. I let him out of his cage so he could walk around in the kitchen, but instead he ran over to me and bit my toe(blood everywhere). It hurt like hell, and I reacted with kicking him across the room. He didn't seem to be injured, but we put him down later that day. :smith: I had to get a tetanus shot.
When I was in grade 3 there was a large dead rat in the middle of the school field, me being curious like everyone else,I decide to go near it. This kid in my class then decides to jump on it which causes blood and all sorts of stuff to come flying out and landing all over my jacket. I don't go near rats anymore.
Rats are cool except the one that lives outside of a grocery store I used to work at, it's about the size of a cat and it STEALS our mouse traps. I once saw it catch one on it's tail and it ran away with it still attached to it's tail. It's tail is now missing a section and holy fuck, that thing is a scary mofo. Runs as fast as shit when you see it though.

I had one of these when I was younger: Died of old age though.
Rats made the plague spread.
For the record it was every largely mobile animal because the plague itself spread through fleas, not just rats.
Bunny-rat?
My family has had bad experiences with rats, mostly because of our cat. One time my sis woke up to a chewed up dead rat next to her in her bed and another time when I lifted the toilet seat there was a huge rat in it somehow and it jumped out

Never broke the skin. Had two hamsters and a rabbit, was bitten by each upwards of 10 or 15 times, some causing me to bleed. And by no means do most people know or accept the difference. There are few people I can show my rats to who don't view them under the same lens as some sewer rat.
This thread made me want to get another small rodent. I love them. I haven't had very good luck with them though.. Some years ago, one of my mice had a seizure in my hands and other one was eaten.. I had a dwarf hamster over the summer, but it didn't stay with me very long.
I have a ferret :3:
Lucky. I want a ferret too but I wouldn't be able to let it explore or anything.

I was going to get one but PetCo didn't have any when I went in so I got hamsters instead. Then they died of wet tail :frown: [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
Lucky. They're pretty easy to teach if you catch him chewing on something just gently grab him by the scruff lift him up tap his/her nose and say 'no chew' or 'no bite' and they get it pretty fast.
I had a pet rat once, my dad got it for me, my mom hated the fact I had it as a pet. One day it went missing, a few days later I found it outside, it had been run over:(
I had an albino rat.
We used to have rats. One of them was an albino with a freakishly white skin and beautiful blue eyes. It watched tv with us every day and it loved to play with it's toys. It died after 3 years because of a tumor ;(
