We are not mistaken.
i love rats
So let's say I want to get two male rats. How much would these adorable little bastards cost me, everything set up?
I've always respected rodents for their abilities to adapt and thrive.
I have a feeling too many people are mistaking rats for mice in this thread...
Mice are much smaller than rats. The size difference is similar to the one between sparrows and pigeons.
I'd love to get a rat for a pet, but then again I have two Yorkshire terriers, an English coonhound, and a cat. :smith:
I used to have 3 when I was very little, but after ensuring us we were buying three males, it turned out there was a female and she had about 40 children so we had to sell most of them but we kept about 3 of them. Then after about 3 years they all got tumors and died. They were damn good pets.
So let's say I want to get two male rats. How much would these adorable little bastards cost me, everything set up?
Aside from the cost of the rats themselves, here's some estimates:

Cage (Either one): -Good Size: $80 (A cage this expensive should be a good size for 2 males to grow up in) -Small Size: $40 (Should only be temporary, especially for 2 rats)
Bedding: $15 (For a bag big enough to last a month or more)
Food: $15 (This bag should last you at least a month)
Overall Initial Expense: $70 - $110 Additional Monthly Expense: $30 These are all approximate, and you won't regret investing in an even bigger cage. Note: You save about $100/month on anti-depressants, so expect annual returns of approx. 2,000%
Well they can't be that smart to run out infront of me when i have a 12Gauge at hand..
Well they can't be that smart to run out infront of me when i have a 12Gauge at hand..
That's horrible!
That's horrible!
Do you honestly believe he shoots rats with a shotgun? HONESTLY?
That would make a huge mess. Just saying.... Its also horrible. Continuing from the past page, I bought my rats for about $10 each. They are probably the cheapest rodents mostly because so many are raised for food. You could probably find them for a few bucks as food but if you go to a breeder expect the prices to be a bit higher. I wouldn't know but possibly up to $50.
I just saw the episode of Hoarders, about the guy who hoards rats... He actually took good care of them. I kinda want one as a pet.
Do you honestly believe he shoots rats with a shotgun? HONESTLY?
Yeah seriously, are you dumb? Most people use a .22 or something.
Add me as another rat owner, I love them, I don't think I'm going to ever get another kind of pet ever.
I have a pet rat named Sushi :3:
If your rat appears ill, leave it the fuck alone, while the OP is right about them rarely biting, when they do, boy do they ever, I made the mistake of trying to pick up my rat who was ill at the time (I didn't realise) he turned round and WHAM, sunk his teeth down to the bone of my finger, chipped the bone AND fractured it.
Now I want a rat.
No you're not, the preservatives smell horrendous.
Just dissected a frog today, finally, and the stench from the preservatives was fucking horrible [sp]I named it Carlos[/sp]

I'll add it to the OP
My first real girlfriend had 2 fancy rats... in retrospect it was creepy.
My friend's sister has/had two ferrets. I haven't had contact with either of them for awhile now though, so...
I had a pet rat, after maybe 2 years I felt it needed a companion, got one. A few months later the first one died of old age and the second one was an asshole that bit me even when I was changing the bedding or giving it food. I was so tempted to fuck that bitch up. I need to get my hands on a hairless/tail-less/dumbo mix rat, that would be the shit.
The fun thing is that I could replace the word rat in OPs post with the word human and it still would be accurate.

Rats have ugly pink tails
Yeah dude totally
Fuck you, now i want a rat. And my damn parents wouldnt let me get one. FUCK
Ferrets are better.
Ferrets are assholes, all 5 of mine were at least, one of which chewed the head off of a hamster I was holding when I was only 6.

Dissected one of these bitches in high school Bio 8)
