This looks great. It seems almost too good to be true. I hope it makes up for FC2
no, the screenshot you posted was from an early build before they put the foliage there, the xbox version isn't all that different.
But the earlier pic sure as hell wasn't from the XBOX 360 version as the textures looked too sharp and the added blue hue was missing.
That FOV is making me sick, and it looks like he's holding his hand right in front of his nose. Why do developers do this?
Jesus, tropical bears. And i thought regular bears were bad. Anyways, the graphics look amazing. Reminds me a lot of the vibrant graphics used in just cause 2. One of the things that annoys me, though, is how marking npcs with your camera lets you see them through walls. Seems like it makes the player lazy if " we dont expect you to try to predict where someone will be, so we'll just highlight them so you dont have to think too hard". Also, the highlighting of boxes, objectives, and animal carcasses kinda kills the atmosphere. It kinda pulls you out of the game, and just dumbs it down a bit, like the developer feels like you have to be constantly reminded that a chest can be opened, or an animal skinned
Why are you complaining about something 100% optional? You don't have to mark them if you don't want to. I actually like they added this as it allows people to play the way they like. If someone wants to tag shit, good for them. If someone doesn't, they don't have to. Why complain about this? Nitpicking at its finest.
That's one fancy looking engine
An Engine can't look good. It's the content that's made by people.
That FOV is making me sick, and it looks like he's holding his hand right in front of his nose. Why do developers do this?
This really isn't geared completely to you so don't think i'm berating you but: I think it's retarded when people are bothered that much by FoV because i've literally seen others refuse to play a game solely because of it. Some of you guys care way too much about how far out or how far in your arms are. If the fov is really tight does it annoy me? Eh, a bit, but then again i'm not spending any significant amount of time staring at my weapon -- i'm staring at the rest of the game with an occasional glance at my hud/weapon. Just suck it up and deal with a tight fov if you have to, it's really not an issue because you shouldn't even be constantly looking at your hands. Also don't tell me "WELL WITH THAT FOV IS TAKES UP ALL YOUR SCREEN": no. No it doesn't. Not at all.

The reason FoV is low on consoles is because you sit farther away from the screen than you do on a PC, it also uses less resources. There is no reason to have a low FoV on a PC version because it negatively affects the players' experiences. It's not as much of an issue in third person games but in first ferson games a low FoV can ruin the experience.

Why do developers do this?
have you ever shot a gun?
the view model would get all fucked up if you bump up the FOV too far
Sure if you use FOV of 180. 90 is something that should be there by default and ability to go to about 110 on demand would be nice too. 90 is not too far. Ability to change FOV is especially good with tri-monitor setup. Sure not a lot of people have that, but it's a fucking number you adjust on a virtual camera, can't be hard to implement. I bet the feature is already there as most zoom functions use FOV change. There is no reason to not have this on a PC. Low FOV does cause motion sickness because shit in the world feels too close and weird. It's like walking with low range binoculars or tunnel vision.
This is Crysis 1 on the xbox 360
I'm pretty sure that's the PC version with lowered graphics. The console version has a different kind of look. More contrasty, and with a blue-ish tint. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
That's Crysis on the PC. This is what Crysis looks like on the Xbox: Note the lack of foliage.
That's not how it actually looks though. Look up some videos. It has less foliage, but that screenshot seems really glitched.
oh god I loved Far Cry 2, but all i wanted was a better stealth system. i can't wait to do a full stealthy, silenced playthrough
here's some pictures of people holding guns [thumb]http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/tjarrett02.jpg[/thumb] note how the gun is not pressed up against their nose
This would look terrible in games. The ironsights would be very small since distance from "eyes" to gun would be reasonably far. It works in real life but in games it's rather annoying. And when shooting from hip you probably wouldn't see much of your gun at all. This is a game for fun, not a gun holding simulator. Since you can't feel the gun it's all about visual clues, and one of the worst ideas is to take the gun away from screen or have half of the screen be stretched arms. What's next, demanding a blurry blob on the lower part of your screen to simulate nose?
I don't know about you guys but I REALLY hope rocks actually injure/stun enemies this go around, I hated how in the first Far Cry you could bean someone with a rock and they wouldn't so much as bat an eyelid at you for it
here's some pictures of people holding guns [thumb]http://accurateshooter.net/Blog/tjarrett02.jpg[/thumb]
this looks pretty close to how it would be held ingame

this is just terrible form altogether
Honestly it's way more likely it's a PC with a 360 controller plugged in
But why would anyone do that is a whole another story. [editline]24th October 2012[/editline]
Jesus, tropical bears. And i thought regular bears were bad. Anyways, the graphics look amazing. Comes out December 4th, my birthday! :D
But why would anyone do that is a whole another story.
did you ever think that some people actually might have different preferances from yourself
I'm totally gonna buy this.
did you ever think that some people actually might have different preferances from yourself
Sure, if they have had a console before a PC, it's only natural. But if you've always played on a PC, it's strange. To me at least.
Any screenshots/video of the Komodo Dragons? I want to see what it's like to fight them.
Sure, if they have had a console before a PC, it's only natural. But if you've always played on a PC, it's strange. To me at least.
I played FC2 with my ps3 controller, driving with WASD is terrible. [editline]24th October 2012[/editline] I generally play all open world games that involve vehicles with a controller.
I played FC2 with my ps3 controller, driving with WASD is terrible.
It's fine, it's not worth suffering trying to aim with a goddamn analogue stick and losing mouse aiming just because driving (that is super simple anyway in FC2) isn't amazing (even though it's fine with WASD).
All games should dynamically detect what input device you're using. In BF3 it's so great to be able to use KB&M for when you're on foot and switch to controller for vehicles. Farcry 3 needs this.
That definitely looks like Dunia. Movements and animations are very familiar. The guns look like bb guns though. I'd like them to add in a mechanic for the wiring. I hope they updated the shadow systems, looking at the FC2 shadow system on PC now it looks pretty bad. Major thing around 3:10 was they said you clean out the map and make travel easier. Bout damn time.
Explain.
I don't expect much after how absolutely awful FC2 was.
The clouds looked really odd to me, like they were painted on or something.
Can anyone elaborate on how this game is exciting in any way? First, the way inventory works is giving me that dead island vibe. Hit X to loot and $20 flashes up on the screen along with useless items. The inventory barely exists. Xray vision? Great, so now we have dumb AI as well as the ability to know when they are flanking you, removing even more challenge from the combat. In the video he was running around with a tiny handgun killing a dozen guys who all had ak's. Excellent. Hey, thats cool how when we clear a road or base its no longer occupied by the enemy so it's safer. Too bad it's a completely useless feature because we now have fast travel. Why bother trekking through the jungle or taking a vehicle when you can just fast travel. Also the missions look like they will be shit. Kill 2 bears? Seems a lot like the letdown that was Skyrim quests. Sorry for the negative attitude but I'm sick of all these AAA titles coming out that all just throw together a bunch of different ideas from random successful games, creating messes like this. I can't remember the last time I saw footage for an upcoming FPS and was blown away by some kind of new quirky gameplay feature or new idea I've never seen before. This just looks like Farcry 2 + boring mechanics and fast travel.
looks really gimmiky.
