I just got back from watching it. I laughed so hard at the way they kicked the ball at Quidditch.
What the fuck happened to the Burrow? Where are the Gaunts? FUCK THIS CRAP MOVIE. J.K Rowling must be vomiting. The only thing keeping her sane is probably the £££ $$$.
What do you mean? They crammed a whole ton of shit in the fifth movie and that made it shit because you couldn't tell what the fuck was going on. Take your angsty fanboyism and fuck off. No one gives a shit if they didn't mention some certain point you personally liked.
I thought it was an amazing movie. Maybe because i have not read the books. My friend said she read the books and she thought the movie was very disappointing.
Just got back from the movies. Decided to see Harry Potter with the family, being a fan of the novels. (Brace for review.) I noticed how it was more of a fill-in movie, attempting to enlighten the viewer on what's exactly happened thus far. It didn't make much headway in the sense of the story. (Except for the end, but that was per granted). It attempted to make up for the loss of storyline progression by using comedy, and I'll admit there were some comical moments that I laughed at, but it had a bit too much for the sixth movie out of seven. In contrast with the previous, it put too much emphasis on joy. Sure, to lighten the mood, but I thought we were past this. Overall, a mediocre film. I like Harry Potter, but not so much this movie. Love, comedy, and generally bullshitting around for half the film may have eluded viewers, and made it seem fun, but it only had a few major points in terms of story progression, many of them minor. It was more of a fill-in story-wise with comical bits added in, than productive, actiony storytelling.
Some comments from IMDB:
This segment of HP will disappoint all who read the novel. The Burrow burns down during x-mas break due to Bellatrix and Fenrir (who is never described as a werewolf) perhaps for the lack of action at the end of the movie...the Dursleys are completely cut from the movie, meaning when Dumbledore picks Harry up for the summer it's at the train station for some apparent reason...The Ginny/Dean/Harry dichotomy is skewed, there was no break up between Ginny and Dean and Harry is clearly in love with her from the start of the movie which eliminates his confusion on his feelings during the school year...Hermoine prematurely spills the beans on her feelings for Ron which was only speculation in the novels...Lavender Brown becomes a obsessive and crazed girlfriend rather than simply over-affectionate (a reminiscent Unis from She's the Man)...the battle scene is missing from the end giving Dumbledore's death an anticlimactic feel making it all the more unemotional and disappointing...Harry hides under the floor simply holding his wand looking like a coward while Dumbledore dies, Snape sees him hiding rather than Harry being frozen under his cloak compliments of Dumbledore ...There is no funeral or break up with Ginny at the end of it (there is no relationship between the two either simply a kiss)...Hagrid is basically deleted from the movie as is Neville...Pensive trips are deleted and the Horocruxes are never explained, not even slightly...Luna finds Harry on the Hogwarts Express rather than Tonks...The Slug Club simply makes a cameo rather than a proper introduction and explanation...the Inferi look more like skeletons compared to the white bodies described in the book...I'm sure more discrepancies are present, however I can only remember so many of them.

Let's make a list of everything they cut out: 1. The introduction of the new Minister of Magic and all that happens between him and Harry. 2. Dumbledore coming to the Dursley's house to give them a piece of his mind. 3. Harry, Ron and Hermione seeing Draco in the dress shop, and Harry getting his first idea that Draco had been branded into the Death Eaters. 4. The invisibility cloak was absent in almost every important scene besides the train. 5. Slughorn's parties (the first of which that was on the train when Ginny gets her first invite.) 6. Tonks finding Harry on the train. 7. Tonks and Lupin's relationship 8. Several key memories that help Harry find the horcruxes in the 7th book. Also the awkward arguments between Dumbledore and Harry about Dumbledore's whereabouts and what happened to his hand. 9. Hagrid and Thwarp 10. Harry finding out that everything that Sirius owned now belongs to him (including the house that serves as the hiding place in the 7th book) 11. Several of the Quidditch matches and how Harry ends up in trouble and has to miss the final match. THIS is when Harry and Ginny have their first kiss when she becomes the seeker for the team and helps the team win. 12. Harry and Ginny's relationship 13.Fleur and Bill's engagement, and are completely absent in the movie. 14. Madam Rosmerta's role 15. Moaning Myrtle's role 16. THE FIGHT IN THE CASTLE!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The best part of the book and they cut it out. They deserved to be fired in my opinion. How could Rowling sign off on them doing this!? 17. Dumbledore's funeral 18. Harry telling Ginny he could no longer see her...they couldn't have this scene considering they never showed them to be in a relationship.
It's a shame really.
^ Those are user comments, right? Some people don't get the fact that they just can't make a perfect book-to-film adaptation. The film is supposed to be BASED on the novel, not the exact page-to-minute novel itself. Whatever they left out from HBP is going to be in DH part 1, they've got nothing much to show other than running around in woods anyway. And the Battle was cut out to avoid repetition with DH part 2's 30-min battle sequence. Also, they don't really explain the whole "Half-Blood Prince" plot. Why he's called the Half-Blood Prince and all...imo they should have (its the name of the film, after all). A little 10 mins about the Half-Blood Prince's past wouldn't have hurt me at all. Other than that, thoroughly enjoyed the film. Anyone else rewatching it in IMAX (if you haven't seen it in IMAX in one of those three theaters yet)?
Or, you could just have Luna doing anything sexual.
Goddamnit, for the last time SHE'S NOT HOT. She looks like a drunken mistake at best.
Jesus Christ, the Harry Potter movies never intrigued me because of the delays in between. I remember watching the first one as a kid and loving it. But now when a new one comes out, I try to remember what the hell happened in the last movie and the one before that. I eventually end up not giving a shit anymore.
Saw it earlier today, it was funnier than I expected. It also had good cinematography for a 'blockbuster,' and an eerie feel (despite the funny). One thing I noticed though was that sets of the school seemed stripped down and more 300ish style, whereas the old films had detail and living breathing movement throughout the entire school. edit: I only read books 1-5 when I was younger, so I can't compare this movie to the book.
The best version of the castle was in the first film, it's exactly the way I imagined it.
People were always walking around, ghosts and paintings would say hello as well.
Is this the last in the series? I stopped reading the books 3 years ago, but I've been wanting to watch all the movies when they were finished.
I saw it yesterday, pretty cool movie imo.
I actually saw people dress up as wizards the other day, grown men and woman. I died a little inside when they started talking about muggles and other shit.
I read the book but I forgot what happened
I just saw it and loved it. [editline]11:11AM[/editline]
Movie was quite awesome. Was funny too: [sp]Like the part where Harry takes the luck potion and looks and acts like he is high on something[/sp]
Best part.
i saw it last night, i didn't like it much but for people who have followed harry potter you'd probably like it more
i saw it last night, i didn't like it much but for people who have followed harry potter you'd probably like it more
It was disappointing, frankly. I don't really follow HP that much but I did read the books. They left out so much.
The cycle has started. This movie had a bigger cliffhanger ending than the others so now I must see the next one. Damn you.
Some bits were ok the rest was shit.
I actually saw people dress up as wizards the other day, grown men and woman. Oh and Luna: Luna isn't 'hot' by any means, but I do think she's 'cute' in her own little way. In my opinion
She has those weird glasses though.
She has those weird glasses though.
Maybe she could see your dick, since it is near invisible. :smug:
I like the actress who plays Luna. She's cute.
She's like an ugly version of my cousin.
Books > Movies
Books =/= Movies
Books =/= Movies
Yeah but I really don't think that books are fun, their boring in my opinion. You read books in school all the damn time.
Yeah but I really don't think that books are fun, their boring in my opinion. You read books in school all the damn time.
What are you talking about? you must have read some really boring books.
What are you talking about? you must have read some really boring books.
I think his only experience with books is from school.
Setting off in a few minutes to go watch it. :)
