Centralia Ghost Town in Pennsylvania (Yes, the "Silent Hill" town)

I went to the one in York, the '7 gates of hell' in the woods that lead to where an asylum once was. That story actually is horrible, way scarier than actually going there. There is nothing to find.
Asylums were always tucked away from main roads back in the day. People had an "out of sight out of mind" attitude towards the mentally ill. There was a fire there, and it took too long to get word back to town to send the firefighters up. Because it was an institution, patients were locked in their rooms and almost all burned alive by the time help arrived.
The woods are said to be haunted, but there is nothing left to see. It is private property and the owner really gives a shit about trespassers. Guarantee you won't see any ghosts, but you are likely to get a shotgun pointed in your face by neighbors.
While I do like weird stories, most of those sites are good reads but actually really disappointing to visit, especially when you're not a ghost hunter. I never heard about the one in Uniontown though.
i think the Silent Hill games would have been so much better if they included a chapter dedicated solely to the road of dicks.
Booster, yes it is a very small town. There is an active highway right next to the abandoned one, so the roads are fine (for now).
Technicsix, do you dj? (random question) There is a whole lot in your area, just keep an eye out for boarded up or overgrown looking buildings when you drive around (if you drive). You're not far from an abandoned school, jail, bowling alley, borders book store, a days inn, and I'm sure more that's just what I noticed driving into York and Coatesville from Northeast PA.

no i don't, i wish though :v: . I don't know if you're into caving/spelunking but there some small man-made caves in P. Joseph Raab County Park, in york. I'm hoping to go into the main iron shaft soon, i just have to get permission. but last month i explored 2 of the smaller caves and it was alot of fun. where do you live near?
I'm not big into caves, mine shafts are pretty cool, you can find some old pick axes and push carts in there, but overall I get really claustrophobic. I live near *********.
I remember visiting an abandoned foodtown. The place was leveled because of "asbestos".
L_n_F I like how all of the Tube comments on the train platform video were like OMG A SCARY CRACKHEAD despite the fact that he seemed like the chillest guy in the world. That said, sketchy neighborhood, be safe, bud.
If you go into the Church, the sirens might go off.
I think we all know what that would mean...
Seriously though that background music didn't help.
This would be the perfect place to film a post apocalyptic film.
That guy must've been either fool-hardy or stupid to drive his truck down that road.
It kinda blows my mind that there is a massive, unquenchable fire under an entire town that might never go out in our lifetimes. It's an environment that no one will ever see but we'll just kinda know it's there.
Why isn't there an American Stalker game set here?
