It is the "I'm Feeling Lucky" feature, Mozilla gets paid by Google to be the default search engine in Firefox.

No, Firefox 3 looks in your history for titles, and comes up with things that were most visited, most frequently.
In firefox if you type a word doesn't it just google search it and pull up the first one? That's what I always thought it was.
Oh, and in Firefox 3 it will look through your history when you start typing a word first, and if you hit enter it will google search.
At least, that's what i think it is.
Oh holy shit I never realized that.
I'm using Firefox 3 Beta.

same here. any way to change that? i have a google search box right next to that. I'd rather have it go straight to the I'm feeling lucky.

Aliasless?
Type "Find Chuck Norris"
Ah , I think it only searches history and bookmarks, I've tried searching things you have suggested and I don't get results on most, only ones I have bookmarked.
Didn't I already say that it only searches history?
WOW.
No, really! He just meant typing it into the address bar, because that would make the web page appear!
You are such a cunt.
It works with meatspin too :3
I use it all the time
why did you have to let even more idiots in :'(
also, cool find :v:
Don't believe me? Try it! I don't think this is against any rules. Sorry if this is old!
Welcome to the internet.

No- it just saves whatever the site has as their header title and associates it with the URL. Then, you can type that header title, and it will match it to the correct URL, and take you there. Google isn't involved.
I use this all the time - it doesn't appear to only search history for me. I type in "tpb" and get taken to the Pirate Bay site. Notice how all the places you're taken are the pages that appear at the top of Google.
heh, that's a pretty handy thing to know.
I figured out how to get this function working if it doesn't for you!!!
(It used to direct me to the Yahoo search page, probably because I live in Asia...:argh:)
:siren:Here's how to do it::siren:

Type "about:config" into your address bar. (you'll then have to press the "I'll be careful, I promise!"-button)

type in "keyword.URL"

double-click it to modify it

put in "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q="

Restart Firefox

Test it by typing "fucking incredible" into your address bar and pressing Enter.

It should direct you to Facepunch Studios, as it's the first search result in Google (due to the Google-Bomb hype, but that's another story...)

If it works: Be happy!! :D

If it doesn't work: Try, try again or PM me.
Hope it works for you!

Wow way to go now everyone knows about it
Wow way to go now everyone knows about it
You make that sound like it's a bad thing.
Google-> Hottest place on the web-> Lucky-button->OIFY
I guess I'm not the first one to post this, but I'm too tired to look through all pages.

Are you saying for a site I've already visited? I guess that makes sense, I was just guessing before.
Because of the fucking incredible thing, I'm inclined to think that it searches I'm Feeling Lucky, not your history or anything. That'll be useful - now I can just tell people to type in "goatse" or "qqqqq".
Could be a good thing for my iPhone, I hate Safari.

Well, it's good to see Mozilla is stepping into the mobile game, I love their browser and everything else related to the Mozilla company
:eng101:
Oh man, I hope it has extensions.
Good to hear, unfortunately, I'd have no use for It. :(
It's not coming anywhere near iPhones or Touches. :(
Not for now, atleast.
Nevermind, he said they are looking at competing with Apple for the mobile browsers.
Nevermind agian, haha.
Next step, an OS
Mozilla Hyrdowolf
