You should try Firefox 3 when it is released. It is said to be less memory-hungry, and supports re-downloading, as well as many other new features :)
Or try Firefox 3, Beta 5 right now. ;)
I've never crashed with firefox. Plus, firefox allows for an almost endless supply of useful addons
I just don't like IE because it's really slow for me.
I prefer IE7. It boots up far faster for me, and it doesn't ask me to update every five fucking minutes like Firefox. Never tried Opera, and Safari looks way to minimalistic.
Yay for 4gbs of RAM!
I use Flock *smugness*
One word. Opera.
yeah man

Mine is using up 74k kilobytes with only 2 tabs open? What the fuck firefox?
I have never crashed with Firefox. IE and opera just annoy the hell out of me.
I have never crashed with Firefox. IE and opera just annoy the hell out of me.
I have never crashed with IE. Firefox annoys the hell out of me. This whole Firefox vs IE vs any other browser is just a pointless war. Almost all the arguments on both sides are moot and only personal experiences. All the people bitching about IE being slow and crashing and insecure and stuff, all their arguments are rendered moot simply because they're not true. IE is really fast for me, never has crashed, and I only virus check once a year, and haven't gotten any viruses yet. So. Whatever.
I used to use Firefox as my default web browser but am learning that Internet Explorer is much better in my opinion. I compared three of the biggest web browsers and they are Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, and the reason why you may find that Firefox crashes more often is because it takes almost double the memory as IE. So when you're downloading a 3GB file and you get to 91% and then it crashes, what do you do? Well if you use Internet Explorer, you don't need to worry, the download isn't part of the browser and doesn't crash with it. Safari, although better animated, etc takes a whopping 60,000K memory. That's horrible. Anyway, here is a screen of my findings, sorry that the picture may not be of the finest quality. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/TheNewAmazing/Resources-2.jpg
Yeah, but firefox has a big fireball as a logo.

Firefox has never crashed for me. Ever. Even when it looks like it's going to, it pulls an amazing save. Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer... tsk tsk, Microsoft. Also, in my opinion, IE is clunky and ugly.
Freshly opened processes, all viewing only this thread: Firefox 3 Beta 5: 50,428k Safari: 44,708k IE7: 30,824k Opera 9.25: 20,588k I choose Firefox for Adblock Plus & Stumbleupon, but Stumbleupon is available for IE, as well as countless ad-blockers, so you've got a point I suppose. The big question for me is, would I be able to set up my Awesomebar™ in IE?
Honestly I used IE until now. I still use IE for my stuff like bookmarks (as I have all of them over there and I can't be assed to bring them over to firefox), and downloads (as Firefox's download system sucks dongs). But I just got sick of IE's problems. Mostly it was flashplayer all of a sudden not working with IE but working with firefox, that's what put me over the edge. What's keeping me at firefox though, pretty much is the spell checker. I like it :) If only firefox functioned like IE and used alot less memory, then it would be the perfect browser. I'm pretty much using now because I am forced to with IE's problems I am having. ALTHOUGH firefox's "Recover last session" feature is FUCKING ACE. Holy shit, that saved my ass once. Having 12 tabs open of stuff you are going to go through is not fun to lose it all.
They are all good for me i just like firefox better i used to use IE
Firefox does use more memory, however once you start to open a lot of tabs (I usually have about six or so open) it starts to use much more than Firefox, as Firefox stays the same with so many tabs open.
I only know one way to crash Firefox: be a dumbfuck and open up a kazzilion tabs. And any sane person knows that you shouldn't do that.
I only know one way to crash Firefox: be a dumbfuck and open up a kazzilion tabs. And any sane person knows that you shouldn't do that.
I just opened 207 tabs, and all it did was made my memory shoot up over 100mb, though they were all blank pages.
By pages, I mean normal HTML pages with text and pictures. Also, last time I did it, I counted them. I was able to open 783 real tabs on 2.5 GBS of RAM before crashing.
when taking those tests, it is important to subject all the browsers to the same stress, otherwise you get wildly fluctuating results. Also, these browsers have a big cache for incoming data so they don't saturate the network with redundant requests. Clear the cache before running the tests, and make sure they are set to the same size. To all the people saying "Get over it, pussy. Go buy more ram" I want you to know that this is an unacceptable solution. From a software engineering perspective, L3 cache (aka ram) is far more expensive than simple good code. Optimized software is designed to run as fast and with as little memory as possible. To say "fuck it" and just throw mindless hardware at the problem belittles the effort to make the software itself runs better. Any software should be able to run on any hardware imaginable. Since this is so rarely the case, we have simply developed a jaded attempt at fixing the problem. Bill Gates was right. 640K really ought to be enough for anybody.
IE goes way slower for me, and closes when I open a new tab, thus making it pretty much useless for me. And it only uses 15mb less RAM than Firefox, so no big deal there.
Firefox has never crashed on me. Well, actually it has, but that was Vista crashing, it wasn't a problem with Firefox it's self. IE on the other hand, it takes 10 minutes to start up, 10 minutes to go to a different page, and 10 minutes to open the favorites menu. And when I try to close it, Vista gives me a "This program is not responding... blah blah blah... Search for a solution or restart the program... blah blah blah" error. It never used to do that on XP, it was at least usable, but it still had all sorts of security vulnerabilities.
I have IE and Firefox Firefox rots in my D drive.
I use Firefox for 2 reasons. 1. No other browser has fire in the title 2. They sell awful looking t-shirts that I would never consider buying or wearing if I got one for free
I have 3 tabs open 3 wigets and I'm downloading using a popular Firefox Addon Manager lets think this over... we are only talking about 80 megabites Firefox absolutely rapes IE. If you use IE now, you just haven't used firefox much.
I'm sorry, but this is too adorable to say no to. I like Firefox. I used to use Internet Explorer, but the customization options of Firefox just won me over.
I just switched to Opera and I really like it already. The only thing that bothers me is that there is no spell checker. Heh "There is no spell check." Matrix Joke...
Actually on Pc World magazine FireFox 3 beta tops all the browsers. Even Internet Explorer 8 beta. Safari was ahead of Internet Explorer 8, though 8 is an improvement over 7. FireFox will continue to dominate the browser market, bring it on Safari and Internet Explorer! Also easily download able addons shoves a log into all the other browsers asses.
