I hope this is moddable so we can get the full Fuck Shit Up™ experience.
Looks like fun.
Isn't the main character's name Not Important? Or atleast comes out to that phonetically?
It's pretty clear that the devs aren't serious.

Nothing is as fun as "save life as many as I can"
im looking forward to the tongue-in-cheek FPS sequel
It honestly looks like a pretty great isometric shooter with nice particles/physics/destruction/gunplay
Kind of fail to see how this wont at least be a fun game to play. No one should expect it to be a 10/10 or even an 8/10 unless it does some great social commentary hidden somewhere or storytelling. All it looks like is a well made isometric shooter. In fact it looks like a fuckload of fun that regard.
Shame a bunch of prissy babies got all insulted by this game while something like GTA is way more offensive as a whole(lets just ignore all of GTA like its radio hosts, NPC dialog, and crude tongue and cheek moments, like the mission giver getting head under a table while he explains your mission)
So people say this game is a killing simulator but something like GTA isnt?
What, because it seems too realistic or something? Im pretty sure I saw the player tanking .50s like a boss, it is not a realistic game. A game like arma 3 deserves the title killing simulator more than a game like this.
Simulator implies that it is realistic.

That's what they call him around the office, the game probably won't give him one.
anyone who actually buys this needs to go on a watchlist. fuck this game and anyone who likes it.
I am going to play this just because you don't want me to.

What you are telling me is that you are a psychopath who enjoys killing people? Jesus fuck lock this man behind bars.
Last night I was rewarded for killing hipsters as Trevor in a rampage.
In older GTAs like 3, an entire minigame called Rampage(its in V for Trevor and has been a staple of the series since it was in the firsts) where you just kill people for points and its entirely the objective.
Trevors slightly more story driven but you are just killing people once again as the goal.
Killing, destruction and committing crimes has been the major point of all GTAs, thats exactly what most of those story missions involve btw.
the difference is that its a relatively minor part of the game and isnt a part of the story that spends 20 hours telling you trevor is incredibly fucked up and broken
if you look at what GTA is and what trevor does in his missions, when hes just a criminal. hes not planning mass murder. Michael is just looking to get his family and life back after he fucks it up in a fit of rage, and franlkin is just trying to improve his standing in life and get away from the gang banging, which his friends keep pulling him back into. It's not a edgy murder sim with a super 1 dimensional character (i exist to kill!!!), it's like an interactive movie.
If gta is like breaking bad and other similar shows, hatred would be a movie about walking around and doing nothing but killing civilians and then killing the cops so he can kill more civilians. theres no other substance to it and thats why its an incredibly shit game that is only going to sell to edgy 14 year olds and normal well adjusted people will avoid it because they don't have murder fantasies they need to fulfill
[editline]29th April 2015[/editline]
imagine if a movie came out that was just "the antagonist" walking around killing people and thats all it was. It would be a terrible terrible movie that people would only see cause of the controversy. GTA on the other hand isnt just about the killing, the characters have depth and theres a lot of explanation so you get the feeling (with every character but trevor even including 4 and SA) that they are just doing what they have to.
Apart from trevor, none of the characters like what they do, they all want an out, but can't quite get it until the end. Even then, Trevor has depth beyond "kill shit", he has some sort of moral center, and literally everything you see and hear about him is the game telling you "this guy is a cunt".

We didn't get much of the plot from the trailers, it just showcases the mechanics. As bad as it may be, it still has a plot that we haven't seen yet.
When I saw this game had an AO rating, my opinion completely changed on it.
Before, I saw it, laughed, thought it looked kinda fun and interesting, and enjoyed the controver$y youtubers gave it and forgot about it after it all blew over.
But now that I see it has an AO rating, I no longer just acknowledge it, I respect it!
Seeing this has an AO rating tells me that the developers truly believe their game is art, that they refuse to change or modify their vision in order to conform to the ethical standards set by society's vision of what's acceptable and what's not.
They refuse to alter their art at the cost of potential sales too, which is a pretty big deal.
In case you didn't know, most stores (at least in the US) won't even stock AO rated games, which is why Rockstar toned down Manhunt 2. If they didn't, that game just wouldn't have sold at all.
Although game stores aren't very relevant for PC purchases anymore, they can't even put their game on any mainline console for the same reason; Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all refuse to license AO rated games.
I'm not sure what Steam's stance is on it but we'll just have to see, now won't we?
So whether or not you find Hatred's content acceptable for a video game, it doesn't matter, these people clearly have a vision that they truly believe in and are serious about bringing to life.
And to them, I say, Godspeed!
(I am, of course, talking about the graphic content of the game. If the game plays terribly or ends up boring then that's an issue the game can be condemned for.)
i dont get how getting an ao rating as an indie dev is really balsy
they only plan on a pc version and steam doesn't care about ratings as long as you aren't a straight up porn game
Like I said, it's a matter of not censoring your art because hordes of people demand you do so.
Also, that's good to know about the steam thing, thanks.
I hope this game will be moddable, and someone creates a mod that lets you play as Jesus for some reason.
Instead of trying to make a reply to every argument in this thread I disagree with, I'll just quote this post I made in another thread that sums up my views on the controversy surrounding Hatred quite nicely. To put it in context, the first part of this post was referring to a claim that "at least Postal 1 and Manhunt were decent games outside of the concept."
PFFFFFFT. Have you ever actually played Postal 1? It plays like raw fucking garbage, especially considering how poorly it's aged. Hell, Manhunt isn't exactly much better, it's pretty clumsy as a stealth game and even worse when it tries to do anything else. The main appeal of either game was the novelty of the concept, really the only difference between them and Hatred is that people have arbitrarily decided that when Hatred does it, it's tasteless, even though it's exactly the same thing. That and Hatred looks like it might actually be a mechanically competent game.
I also don't get why people think that this game is supposed to be in some way promoting mass murder or idealizing the protagonist. I seriously doubt that the developers share the protagonist's sentiment, especially considering that they repeatedly refer to him as a "villain".
In fact, it seems pretty strange to me how whenever someone points out how several other games that depict mass murder like Postal 2, GTA etc. are beloved, people hand-waive it by saying "oh but it's okay because they don't take themselves seriously." So what, mass fucking murder is only acceptable as a subject matter as long as we don't treat it like it's serious? It's only okay to depict it as long as we have a wacky protagonist who makes all the funny one-liners and makes killing people look goofy, light-hearted and fun?
I have no doubts that Hatred was primarily intended to cash-in on controversy, and when it's released it may well turn out to be little more than some petty, angsty nonsense. But to me at least, it's (unintentionally) revealed a lot about us as a community, and honestly most of it isn't terribly flattering.
i look forward to the trailers because of what inevitable hilariously edgy speech Notimportant is going to give next, suffice to say he didn't disappoint with this one
All these people who keep saying stuff to the effect of "too edgy, not self aware, I hope they do something with the edgyness".
Why do they have to do anything with it? Why can't this game just be about fun? Looks like a fun mindless shooter to me, I'll probably pick this up if it ever goes on sale.

Because it's not just trying to be about fun, they're trying very hard to push this crawling in my skin angle across, and if they're not self aware of it then yeah I'm not afraid to say it's kind of disturbing.

GTA isn't entirely based around mindless murder there's tons of different missions and activities to do.
Hatred is literally you just shooting down mostly innocent bystanders and hordes of cops over and over with no variation.
If they really wanted to be edgy they should have added kids to this game.
I thought his name was "Not Important"
Then they should add a character whose name is "Important"

Why are you comparing the entire story mode of GTA to a minute long trailer? It still baffles me that you have the gall to put GTA in higher regard in terms of story when it's been out on consoles for 2 years, and its predecessors out for longer and on more platforms, especially when it's a popular game that many people have played through. Not to mention paragraph long descriptions about a character on which you have had several hours playing as in the game, and yet with Hatred you have a minute long video and pretend you know everything about the story.
I'm actually really looking forwards to this. Gonna be great.
Totally looking forward to it too. Gonna be playing this game while blasting some Dying Fetus. :v:

I still don't understand what's so morally questionable about shooting imaginary people. We've been doing this for years, in GTA.
Then they should add a character whose name is "Important"
"My name, is important, what's not important is what i'm going to do, i just fucking love this world" etc etc
This is actually the first time I've actually checked this game out and it looks really cool.
I hope there'll be an option/mod that turns the colors up a bit, kinda looks a bit bland and shit, this game looks like as if it'll work well as a normal TPS shooter, though I won't mind the overhead view.

But all the rampages in GTA involve you killing gang members who fight back, not just innocent civilians.

No, it's because this game makes you actually kill unarmed civilians to progress (I'm assuming, we don't really have details on that yet). Killing enemies that attack you and fight back is one thing, killing unarmed people who are just hiding and running away from you is another thing.
So people say this game is a killing simulator but something like GTA isnt?
I remember slaughtering tons of people in my Age of Empires II campaigns, including the peasants. Am I considered a mass murderer yet? :v:
[editline]29th April 2015[/editline]
I even brainwashed them into killing their own people! How sick and twisted I am!

b/c thats how its presented
