Isn't it kinda racist to add 'J' in front of a genre just because the band are from japan?
If she really likes Japanese music I can understand why she doesn't like western music, because Japanese artists seem to sound completely different from western artists for the most part.
she? I said 'he' twice man.
The phrase "Japanese rock" sounds a bit sick after the earthquake.

J-Rock sounds pretty different than other rock so I think it is okay in this case.
No, because J-rock is totally different from other rock. It's just a genre name.
You have things like britpop and stuff anyway

It has a very distinct sound that is very different from western music. And it's just shortened a way of saying "japanese rock", nothing wrong with it
she? I said 'he' twice man.
I have no idea why I typed "she" lol
People make the distinction between "Anglo-rock" and Rock en Español/Rock Français too, for example. On last.fm a foreign band is guaranteed to have their language as one of the most popular tags, as well as their language followed by the genre they are labelled as.
I assume that "J-Rock"/"J-Pop" is seen more often because of people obsessed with the Japanese culture.
They all look like females, but are they all females?
I'm about 95% sure they're all dudes.

:h:
Also, J Rock pisses me off as a term. It works in some rare cases when a band can only be defined by their nationality, but a band like Versailles, which are quite clearly power metal should not be referred to as J Rock. This goes for most Japanese bands you'll hear, J Rock seems to be an invention of idiots and weaboos who listen to it because it's Japanese, not because it's actually good
No they don't.

Yeah, to be honest I've given up and thought that I actually have quite a good blues collection :smug:
I always think I need more music to listen to. Modern Prog Rock/Metal, Post-Rock and more Metal in general.
I have a ton of albums lined up to buy. Amon Tobin, The Human Abstract, Ihsahn, Devin Townsend.
dubstep, house, thrash
I would love to know more about Country music, I have a 3CD compilation that I've yet to hear.
Also World music in general is lacking.
Jazz, and I need to listen to more progressive rock since I really only listen to Rush.
Also classical.
I must admit that I, like some others have neglected Jazz even though I have a couple of albums lying around, guess i just spend much time and money on the metal-scene, which isn't a bad thing... I hope...

King Crimson are fairly jazz / borderline metal oriented. Try them.. may increase your interest in jazz.

Metal I guess. It's the genre I kind of want to enjoy, but just don't seem to be able to.
Also World music in general is lacking.
What do you consider world music to be, foreign folk? I know some people label anything not in English as world and Wikipedia is a bit ambiguous on this.
I have a pretty huge list, but mainly Post Rock and Jazz. Any suggestions on what artists in those genres I should start with?

Non-Westernized music. And I don't mean J-Pop...
It could be traditional but I'm not particular.
