thanks! the dull brown was intentional, but i suppose i'll pay attention to color choices a bit more from now on
rendering is a legitimate problem though, or my lack of patience rather. I'm working on it though!

Looks like he's hammering a large nail on an overheating piece of machinery, like the nails bursting with steam seeping out and he needs to hit it back in. That's what his expressions telling me at least.
My self-conscious friend is approaching this section waveringly and is scared by people.
So I'll post this in his stead because he doesn't know where to start when it comes to forums. Criticism welcome.

It's good. But nothing too phenomenal. The only part I like is the fish part, because it captures the lightning correctly and nicely. Dull, muddy like underwater and top-down light.
Distant water seems too saturated and distracting [I]for me[/I].
I love the lighting on the face. It just doesn't seem to suit the water environment. The light is harsh and clear. If she was underwater, there would be lines, or what have you, caused by waves. If she was deeper in the water, the edges of the shadows would be fuzzier.
I love the structure of the face tho

You removed a lot of personality (as well as originality) when you chose to give him a bored ass look. Now he's just some generic guy doing some work on his robot.
Earlier he was a interesting looking fella that had discovered something shocking during his work. He had that puzzled but happy look.
Well, maybe I should have explained a few things. This is for a little contest between me and my friends. It needs to have a sci-fi/fantasy theme to the pic. Although I loved the suggestions, I still needed to follow the theme, and I feel that this accomplishes it better than some basic machinery issue...

It's a good start, I'd say he should drill all sorts of stuff though. Anatomy, colour theory, brushwork, composition.. Like I said it's a good start in every respect really, but at the same time there's no aspect that couldn't use lots of improvement. More studies I guess.
What springs out the most is how oversaturated everything is. It's pretty hard on the eyes.
The one part that's really lacking is the hair, the hair is a disaster tbh. Looks rigid and like it's made of dough or something. Using references for things helps - this doesn't always mean directly drawing from your ref, just grab some pictures that better inform you of how hair reacts to being underwater, or whatever your subject may be.

The floor is meant to be still water. As the light is coming from the top right is the reflection correct? I couldn't decide if it should be diagonal or not.
Are you saying the reflection direction is reliant on the light source? :v:

I think his face isn't attached to his head right, and his left upper arm is too short.
its not exactly traditional but for the past 3 months on and off I've cutting, sanding, filing and spraying 640 ish parts to assemble this perfect grade beast.
had a lot of fun making it, I think i'll order anther perfect grade later in the year when my wallet has recovered.
