why do u still make more comics about how you're trying to be an artist than actually trying to be an artist
because hush up rusty you poopy poop
seems like I'm drawing more often now that the semester's over than I was when I was actually being graded for it

More looks like that it's a huge ass axe and it's floating somewhere in the stratosphere. The axe itself is pretty good though.
Oh wow, knowing basic human body anatomy helps a fucking lot in drawing figures.
It makes you draw easier, faster, but still correct and look natural.
Ahhhh yes, Christmas, that time of the year when every person you don't want to see ever again visits you.

Taking a break from visual stuff
Thought I'd re-learn FLStudio and mess around; second proper attempt at a coherent song, first attempt since a few years ago. I wrote some simple melodies and started messing around with audio that I ripped from Game Grumps videos to try to piece together a really rough, vague narrative

I'm probably going to abandon this one. I don't know where I could take it that wont ultimately end up as a generic landscape :v:
The perspective is what I find odd about it, the mountainous backdrop and height of the horizon implies that we're viewing it from way up high but the dirt trail/road makes me think we're at human height from the ground, the road doesn't diminish enough, as if I were to walk down it I'd end up in a miniature forest. Also, the color of the sky is somewhat dingy and washed out, almost looks foggy.
Also never save as JPEG.

originally it was supposed to be a more low to the ground point of view. then somewhere halfway through I was like fuck it and just never fixed/got rid of the road. ultimately I'm not going to finish it. it's even boring to me now.
one thing I did learn from this though is that photoshop > gimp.
Does anybody know of a way I could achieve this effect from a photograph? As in with some sort of script and not manually.

Didn't the guy who did that use a script?

Realized it was too small, adding details got quite annoying.
Didn't the guy who did that use a script?
I've seen a couple scripts floating around that do something similar, but I haven't seen any others quite that clean before.

cut it at the horizon line and do something awesome in the sky
I was just exploring some new styles today. Here's what my brain spat out.

Try some processing scripts

I really like the minuscule at the top. What's it say?
I really like the minuscule at the top. What's it say?
One of them says Achon (a name of a graff artist I respect), and the other one says Shantie.
I want to do more in the Achon style, although sometimes it get's very complex to be consistent with the style. I just need to wait for the right state of mind.

Only yours is much better! You've captured the form of the mountains great, and the shape of the forest is awesome.
The flat tones and heavy use of single colours in your painting is what I think it lacking. Something I'm trying a lot more recently is just picking a bunch of differing tones and saturation levels of those tones and throwing them in to add some 'tonal noise' to whatever it is I'm painting. For instance, if you're painting a rocky cliff, try not just using one greyish-brown colour but a bunch of brush strokes with slightly different tones. Maybe a bit of a blue hint here, maybe a slightly redder hint here. Don't be afraid of having visible brush strokes!
For quick colour selection in Photoshop, hold Ctrl+Shift and click the right mouse button (or whatever right-clicks on your tablet pen). Continue holding ctrl+shift to keep this colour picker visible. You can hold space to 'free' the mouse cursor and allow you to move it between the hue bar and the value/saturation box.
I would suggest grabbing some images of other people's environments and really looking at each part of them; how does the artists paint that road? How does he paint that mountain?
Don't forget the usefulness of photostudies! Find a nice environment photo and try to copy it. Don't dally on the details so much at the moment, just try to copy the big shapes and the way light and colour works. And if you can, look back and closely observe why the colour has happened.
Doing some quick reading on how light and shadow works can help as well!
Finally, I'd suggest checking out this youtube channel and looking at some of the environmental stuff

I disagree; I don't see the point in saving as a big old PNG for something as trivial and file-size-sensitive as web posting. If you want a near-lossless image just make sure you resize the image yourself in Photoshop instead of getting the imagehost to resize it for you, and try uploading to a host that doesn't process the image unnecessarily.

C&C I guess
i don't know what you're going for and whether these pictures are supposed to be in very overcast and dull environments (it seems they're mostly above the clouds in the ww1 pic and the first one doesn't look particularly cloudy so i'm guessing not) but you should really bump up the values; especially the highlights
i've dicked about with levels and some colour balance which isn't really the proper way to do it, you should be painting it in, but here's an idea:

Been lurking for a year or two, thought I'd finally start actually posting things. Bit of a random selection as I've wanted to post in this thread for a while.

I won't get any official feedback on anything in about a month, so hearing something from you folks would be lovely.
I can't see any of your images; are they linked properly?
I can't see any of your images; are they linked properly?
Apparently not. Any idea how to put up images from Dropbox? It seems to have changed and I'm unfamiliar with it.

Contrast has always been a trouble of mine, and it doesn't help that the school computers have uber-contrast settings that don't let me see the true values.
Thanks for the tips though, I'll keep an eye out for that in the future.

They need to be in your public folder
