Trying to learn anatomy and started with hands

decent?
Not bad. The total, like, line at the joints makes it looks oddly segmented, but the proportions look good.

Starting hair. I feel like I'm not spending enough time on it, but I also feel like it's hard to spend as much time on hair as I do on the face. Oh well, I like it well enough.
Chopped off all of my hair. Doodled a new ID in Sai.

You'll get people pinching you over anatomy but honestly I quite like it
It's got a nice unique feel to it without being overly difficult to look at; it definitely shows some skill and understanding
Someone asked me to draw Terrostrich fighting BreadLord... so I did.

Still trying to get the hang of MangaStudio. I tried out the flatten and multifill Photoshop tools for this, I think it went pretty well.

Do you look so much like Mowgli in real life too :v:
I've started reading the loomis books. Good stuff
Is it better just get all the basics down on pencil and paper?
Or is it good to start out on the tablet to learn this stuff.
pen + paper

I have found that learning with pencil and paper first is important. Getting a tablet requires even more practice (other than simply artistic skills) to get the hand-eye coordination down. Plus I always end up drawing more naturally with pencil and paper.
Normally, one is supposed to draw from the shoulder, meaning long, flowing strokes, not little, rough hashes that you see so often in the work of an inexperienced artist. With a small-ish tablet, it's harder to get the flow. So, it's important to have more of a handle on the basics before using a more difficult tool IMHO.
Thought it was a funny idea.

I think it should feature more Mars in the picture.

A certain person has finally got me to get around to posting one of my more recent pixel art things that ive been doing over the past few weeks when I scrape together the time and to keep me from falling out of the saddle.
There's a lot of empty white space and extra versions of 'props' and background elements in case I mess up terribly and it gives me room to work in. I probably should have edited all that out but im a lazy bastard.

Its supposed to be a VTOL Hind looking thing coming in for a landing/ hover in a broken city. Im planning on adding some random dudes around it to fill in all that empty wreckage.

yeah everything lucky draws has this zelda vibe to it (usually a windwakery one). is that intentional
Haven't done anything really in a few weeks
Was a bit apprehensive about coming back to it. Had this idea bouncing around my head for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd just give it a go

Thanks!
I"m gonna keep working on it a little and do some supplementary paintings to show different angles/action shots to describe its function more clearly
Maloof, I love your work. I'm a long time lurker/stalker and I really admire your dedication, considering how much you've been improving in all your art.

Seems a bit reminiscent of Viktor Antonov.

This is hella cool.
One thing about it though, at first I thought that the bluish side was the more illuminated one because daylight is usually cool. There's no significant difference in value between the two so my mind just makes that assumption until I see the shadow.
The metal looks great btw.

It's not really intentional, but I use hard shading a lot making stuff look cell shaded and I think Zelda is fucking awesome so I probably take some visual styles from it.

that looks so combine-ish it's not even funny, but it's a great improvement over your other pieces.

You're one of my favourite posters because you can so noticeably see that you're getting so competent at digital painting. In the past your work always showed that you had great ideas but the execution was frustratingly off somehow. I definitely hope I'm able to have the same sort of progression when I get my degree and concentrate on nothing but digital painting. :v:

figuring out paint tool SAI's vector tools, and getting a bit better at anatomy on the side.
