Haven't done anything really in a few weeks Was a bit apprehensive about coming back to it. Had this idea bouncing around my head for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd just give it a go
Those rings look like stargates.

bigger brushes for the face
I like your picture Mal but I refuse to quote it
So I was looking for Dark Side of the Moon wallpapers that would fit across 3 monitors, I had no luck so I decided to make one myself: [THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/NAhoG.jpg[/THUMB] I had fun making that, so I also went ahead and made an simple Aperture Science one: [THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/LBcyt.jpg[/THUMB] (Imgur left compression shit all over the images)
Decided to make something Stalker themed today (No, it's not fire, I know how to draw fire). The detail loss is amazing with the camera, I promise my next one will be scanned properly. Also hooray for transparent grass! Skeleton: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/2GeGI.jpg[/img_thumb]
the fire looks rather liquid the grass looks symbolized and rushed too it's a really cool piece nonetheless, the house looks awesome and the other solid objects are really well defined.

Beautiful detailing on the side of the shack.
This is hella cool. One thing about it though, at first I thought that the bluish side was the more illuminated one because daylight is usually cool. There's no significant difference in value between the two so my mind just makes that assumption until I see the shadow. The metal looks great btw.
Thanks! I agree that perhaps the ambient light is a bit over-done, and at first glance it does confuse the shape of the structure a bit. But I quite like how that blue sits. I may use detailing to separate the two planes Thanks everybody else for the comments! I wish I could reply to you all individually but I don't want to clog up the thread or look like I'm trying to draw more attention. I can definitely see the Antonov inspiration in there. A lot of my design in both aesthetics and narrative tends to draw from from Half-Life 2, but it wasn't a conscious choice here. I can't promise the next image will be at the same level or better than this one, but I'll definitely try!
Tried a life study of a kettle, still working on learning cloth though Also I switched to working on a laptop that has a screen w/ terrible contrast & gamma, so I can't say how it'll look on other people's screens.
I definitely like it when your concepts have a sharper tone to them rather than the mud-like ones you used to make (those were still good)
I've been drawing for a few years and never had a problem with creativity until the end of my GCSE art course. Since then, every so often I'll produce something I'm proud of and that I'm impressed with myself. Here are a couple of my most recent pieces: The first is a recreation of an album cover and the second is an older drawing that just happened. But the thing is that these things that I create are a rarity, and 95% of the time when I try to draw it just doesn't work out. I get frustrated and mad, sometimes really upset because I can't get anything down. I have ideas and I guess I could say I have the talent, but not often can I use them to create work. Almost every day I try to draw but only once every few months does anything happen. Does anyone know any ways to overcome this block?
practice, even if it turns out bad, nobody has to know, the more you draw, the more better pieces occur
I'm not really looking to improve right now, the problem I first need to overcome is I can't actually get anything down. I don't understand how I can make something that looks good one minute, then the next minute I can't even make a rough sketch. It's really frustrating and discouraging, and the more I try the more frustrating it gets and the more I'm discouraged. For me the main thing in a piece of work is the sketch, everything blossoms from then on, but that initial frame is what isn't happening for me even when I'm in the most motivated of moods.
what i meant to say is that more practice creates consistency
Actually, thanks for this. You've given me a brilliant idea. If it works out I'll be sure to post it. :))

Do you know perspective lines? Do you know how to build up anything-you-could-imagine from geometric shapes like squares? Or rather, do you know how to break down figures into shapes? If you don't, then that's why you're suffering and having a hard time. You're probably working on practice, meaning you learn how to draw one thing in one way and when you want to make something different you have to start from scratch learning how to draw it through repetition and practice, learning you how to make that one thing in one way. Learn the fundamentals of art if you haven't (since I'm just assuming here) and you'll get better results across the board.
Do you know anatomy? Do you know perspective lines? Do you know how to build up anything-you-could-imagine from geometric shapes like squares? Or rather, do you know how to break down figures into shapes?
As far as I know my knowledge of anatomy is pretty good, it's actually something I'm confident in. Yes, of course, it's not perfect, but it's a strong point of mine and I have a tendency to observe it in every day life. Breaking down figures into shapes is something I do a lot when sketching, although they are shapes I've adjusted myself so maybe not what you mean. For example I have shapes I use for the chest and the abdomen and the hips etc. I've tried using geometric shapes a couple of times but I can't really say I know how to build up anything I imagine from them, but then again, that's because I've never taken the opportunity to try it. As for perspective lines, I know basics. I've done one or two drawings using perspective that have turned out okay, but again it's something that leaves me frustrated. I started trying perspective when my art became repetitive and boring to me, when I tried leaving my comfort zone. I think the leaving my comfort zone is actually the main part of my frustration. I'd be seeing wonderful artists do diverse things; never the same. I got a bit sick looking at how everything I did was the same. (Just the other day I was doing through my folder and about 3 of my drawings were almost exactly alike.)

This seems very midtone to me, with very little highlight or shadow anywhere, and where it is is very light. The hair almost has no directional shading, what highlight and shadow there is adds a bit of texture and that is about it, face also seems a bit skewed and oddly shaped on the left edge... and where is his ear?
Something I've been working on. This is a light painting photograph of a 3D model.
Her lips are a bit.. disproportional. I say that hesitantly because my screen's on the fritz, does anyone else agree with me on this, or am I seeing things?
I can see it hah. It may be because of me tilting the screen or moving too fast for the exposure so it's a bit off.
Pardon my ignorance, but a light painting photograph of a 3D model? Does that mean a screenshot or what
"Dr. Breen again?"
For some reason when I saw that face I thought it was Mike Stoklasa
God dammit I need to do studies to make my eyes catch everything right, but I can't force myself to do that. Already tired of drawing plants I have at home and smililar boring things. Any advice on how to make practice a bit more fun?
Pardon my ignorance, but a light painting photograph of a 3D model?
