like yeh it's not a very good mattepainting but that is what mattepainting is. you're calling him out like he has cheated and earned the respect of the forum by some deliberately seedy and manipulative scheme

"Hmm. Hold on." The man said as he went through a door in the back of the room. After a couple of seconds he came back with a steel bucket.
"Here, this should do fine."
I feel like your drawings should be accompanied by electronic swing. They've got a great charm.

Well I'm thinking people glanced at it and thought it was a painting, hence the good reception it got, hence somebody gotta point out that it's falling apart at the seams and does nay deserve good reception at all
Matte painting is great when it's done right but I don't think you should start by trying to get good at it without art fundamentals

It's really quite bright. Tone down the hair a touch? The face looks pretty good but overall it's seriously a bit hard to look at with the neon hair. You could probably darken the face and the clothes a bit as well.

Well what you posted is excellent but a little inconsistent. The skull and the red fringe on the collar lack the detail and are stylistically different than the face. The skull in particular seems very work-in-progress compared to the rest, while the red bit on the collar is pretty plain as far as shading and style of brush stroke are concerned.
And now I beat my ego into submission to post this thing I've been working on and trying to foce myself to post for a while. Like literally on and off for a year because I'm a horrible artist and I've skipped through the fundamentals to try and bullshit together something decent. And it still sucks, so any advice would be awesome. May I restate that I have no idea what I'm doing.
Issues: How do I make eyes look...normal? How do I make hair oh god? How do I make the skin less flat and gross?
And of course the bloody garbage would be gone if I'd've realized I painted it on the wrong layer less than an hour too late to undo.

I quite like that Dr. Schultz. The one thing I'd say is that his beard looks a bit too stubbly and scratchy compared to how long and trimmed it is in the film (I'm pretty sure that's just your painting style though)

All right, thanks for the advice. I darkened the face a bit more with some shading to add depth and redid the coloring on the hair, as well as fixing a few other things.

You said yourself you skipped fundamentals. Forgot the issues you have up there, abandon that piece and start at the beginning, you can't put up the roof before you build the walls even if you spend ten years fiddling with it
