I added more shadows and highlights and tried to give his ear some depth. I must admit I do like the shape of the face as it is though. [T]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/023/a/1/image_by_discomelon-d5sihcv.jpg[/T]

[T]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/023/a/1/image_by_discomelon-d5sihcv.jpg[/T]
It's looking pretty good. However, I'd suggest you do a bunch of photostudies before you go any further. Do a little reading on light and skin and whatnot as well; knowing how light reacts to different surfaces and some basic facial anatomy will be much more beneficial to you than us giving you advice on how to improve this image. Because at the end of the day, most advice we give you for this image will only be relevant to this image; if you go in and try to draw a different face from a different angle you're going to have to ask for a bunch of the same sort of advice. It's about fundamentals; if you can nail the fundamentals of facial anatomy and painting skin and shadows and light then you can start being really truly creative without battling against a lack of proper knowledge and technique
Heh, I'm actually starting a drawing II course and it's primarily going to be about exactly that. I've had experience with facial anatomy (i.e. I'm not one of those artists that can only do certain angles) but I've not really mastered it either, and that goes for color too. Thanks for the advice, I'll go read over Loomis and do some photo studies asap.

You don't have to use it, but at least try, because at the moment his face looks quite 2D. Made another animation thingy. Not really related to anything just fooling around in flash drawing a landscape that eventually evolved into this.

I'm sorry or this guys I'm new to facepunch so the whole forum things confusing you can laugh at me if you want =>. Anyways I just though I'd let you's know that alot of the work I've done is unfinished that's why the image I uploaded earlier looked flat in places. I should have really mentioned that it was a WIP, sorry about that. On another not this one is a little more finished. This was a quick doodles to practice skin tones and just to prove to my brother that my artwork is legit. I will remember to put whether I've finished something or not =D
W-what?
Appears to have broken the quotebox. just focus on
Yeah I know I forgot to mention that I haven't really finished it yet. I will finish it soon though and I see where your coming from. Alot of my stuff is works in progress I need to stop slacking of I guess. Thanks for your feedback =>
I never get time to draw anymore. But I got a 30 minute window. So I jolted this rough sketch of a GIANT FUCKING pest doctor over the Norwegian town of Drammen. Why? I don't answer rhetorical questions.
how is that rough in any way, shape or form
how is that rough in any way, shape or form
I am a really anal man, his rag-coat has horrible brush-strokes, among many other speed-discrepancies.
do you actually never have time? or is it like you procrastinate a lot?
do you actually never have time? or is it like you procrastinate a lot?
A bit of both. I'm out most of the time, but when I'm home I don't normally feel like drawing and just end up on Facepunch. I drew now for the noblest of all causes, though: to impress a girl.

The lamp and the glow on the doctor is brilliant, and the moonlight on his back too.
Trying to do some kind of logo'ish designs stuff

Also while the orange part of his sleeve looks rough, his mask still looks fantastic. Love it.
How much would this original acrylic painted on a 12"x16" canvas panel sell for? IDK how to price my paintings. I sold my Tardis watercolor for $75 but I did that in like a day.
Made a bridge from small wooden sticks with a friend. Was tons of fun! :v:
I'm sorry I tried to reply to you before but I kind of messed it up. Anyways I haven't finished it yet, that's why it looks flat in places. It is still a work in progress I should have mentioned that but I forgot. Moving on, your piece is very nice and I love the bush strokes. I think the eye are a little of center, and I iris's need to be a bit rounder. As for the hair some there is a bit to work on maybe try making a hair brush or just use a simple round brush and blend similar colours together to get different shades. The blur tool it quiet useful for blending. Also holding the ALT key is very useful, it's a shortcut used to pick out the colours really quick and easy. I hope this was useful for you =D
It's really quite bright. Tone down the hair a touch? The face looks pretty good but overall it's seriously a bit hard to look at with the neon hair. You could probably darken the face and the clothes a bit as well. Well what you posted is excellent but a little inconsistent. The skull and the red fringe on the collar lack the detail and are stylistically different than the face. The skull in particular seems very work-in-progress compared to the rest, while the red bit on the collar is pretty plain as far as shading and style of brush stroke are concerned. And now I beat my ego into submission to post this thing I've been working on and trying to foce myself to post for a while. Like literally on and off for a year because I'm a horrible artist and I've skipped through the fundamentals to try and bullshit together something decent. And it still sucks, so any advice would be awesome. May I restate that I have no idea what I'm doing. Issues: How do I make eyes look...normal? How do I make hair oh god? How do I make the skin less flat and gross? And of course the bloody garbage would be gone if I'd've realized I painted it on the wrong layer less than an hour too late to undo. aahhh it's so bad hnnngh
There's far too much detail and contrast on the large figure though; something that far away, especially at night, would be a lot more silhouettish, I think. Perspective-wise it needs something smaller in the foreground to give a sense of scale - either a human figure or something that we can easily use to judge scale in relation to the human form; a house or lamp post or something

And hair is I don't even know, definitely forgot how bad that was since I haven't worked on it much :f But thanks for the input!!
Personally, while it took a second, the lights on the hill from the town helped me figure out the scale easily enough.
It would be an easier read and give a better overall sense of depth and scale if there was a clearer scalar contrast though
Have you tried using simple guide lines like the circle and cross technique. It's very useful for getting angles on the face a bit more accurate, but yeah if you practice anatomy more then you'll get the hang of it. Look out for really simple techniques as they tend to stick with you better than the more technical ones. When your confident then try the more difficult ones =D
Thanks :) The head is supposed to be tilted to the left a bit anyway, but I think if I study anatomy for a while I'll get the hang of it.
IDK how to price my paintings.
I have no idea how to price anything. I've been thinking about doing commissions on Craigslist but 90% ask me for estimates. I don't know if, say, $20 for a picture is highballing them or way underselling.

All artists underprice themselves all the time without even knowing it. Go try and google it up and find lots of different articles about the matter.
think about how many bollocks you would give to own the painting you are trying to sell look up average market price of one bollock extrapolate value of painting
