How do I get better with value and color? I seem to do nicely with lines but when it comes to the actual painting I suck.

Is it values and color or rendering shapes and textures you're not good at? I suggest you just study up on color theory and do some photostudies to learn how to use color better. tbh pixel art has helped me understand color the most.

While 99% of the work in this thread makes me want to cry, it's also inspired me to stop taking shortcuts and learn how to draw more or less the right way. Lots of god awful studies and I'm loving to hate every moment of it. I even drew a human that looks like a human without petting in my lines until they were a meter thick! Here's to you FP art subforum :)

Looking good. I'd maybe put in an extra frame, possibly two, but that would probably be overkill, when she takes down her arm though, it's a bit choppy right there. I believe having an extra frame that shows the hand going down there wouldn't remove the speed and help the feeling of motion.
Writing is hard. How much should I do before posting it here for critique and ridicule?

This thread is called "Creative Work That Doesn't Deserve A Thread" for a reason.
Post it and then cross your fingers that anyone that cares about written works sees it and feels like criticizing it.

worth finishing.
also, unless your picture is very detailed, it is better to post a scaled down image (especially when it's a wip).
My Friday class was cancelled so I got an extra 8 hours to finally finish this

I might go back and rework the coat and handbag on Monday, the colours seem off.

This one is a fair bit longer than the others due to the amount of time it took to do the actual paintings. As always, I took a lot of breaks to muck about, talk to people, look up references, etc. Creative commons music credits in the description.
what is the color wheel you're using. i tried searching for stuff but nothin :(

It's real neat
It takes a little while to get used to - at first the whole way you have to hold space to move the cursor around feels really counter-productive, but once you get the hang of it it makes everything so much smoother. No more moving the mouse off to the side and clicking to open the colour picker every single time you want a new tone; simply hold the hotkey, pick and release.

Dunno if it counts, but I made a bomber plane thing out of virtual Legos.
Tweaked the portait I posted earlier a bit.
What's a good site for selling prints? It seems like deviantart and society6 are pretty much the same. I've noticed society6 actually gives you less of a profit than deviantart, with deviantart giving you a $5 profit for a $30 photo print and society6 a 5$ profit for a $30 photo print. Is there somewhere that the profit is more than 20%-25% of the total cost?
if it's something the etsy crowd would be into (or that you could market yourself) print them at digitalab.co.uk and sell them on there. You could get waaay more profit that way. Costs like £2 for an A4 print. So you can probably sell them for about half the price and get just as much profit as if you sold them on dA.
Noov man some of your stuff has real potential but the total lack of value range is killing it all stone dead. It's not nice to look at
I know I've said this before so here's some extra encouragement:

See how much more this grabs you? And of course it's not ideal, just has contrast and levels adjustments, so it looks more like ink. Imagine if you worked in a full value range from near black to white in pencil, it would look twice as good.
Yeah well, I do have this problem with the pencils not being dark enough even as I pressed. Maybe I should use a softer pencil instead of the usual 2B
I usually use 2B. 2B, imo, can offer both dark and light tones if you know how to control your hand and arm.
The thing is, what I'm using right now is Faber-Castell 2Bs. Usually, they're dark even when I pressed a bit but not too dark, which is good. This time, most of the FC pencils I'm using now is a bit too hard to get that right amount of tone I'm looking for and this is the red pencils I'm using.
Get a new one?

Are you sure it's not a 2H :v:
2B should get you reasonably close to black without much effort

The only reason it looks like that is he didn't adjust the Brightness/Contrast. I believe it looks much better IRL.
