[SUP]in my opinion[/SUP] it would look better with a different crop (like a more square one with the figure more to the left side), or atleast a much tighter one
It would take away a lot of the vast open no-where feel it has if it were closer cropped.
Some people say doing fan art is bad, and if it's a portfolio for a company then yeah, it's not a good look. But I think it's fine for practice, especially if you're taking the original content in a new direction. If you're just drawing pikachu then it's not helpful - if you're rendering pikachu in a new way or changing the concept or something then it's all good
[t]http://static.squarespace.com/static/4eb2bd5bd09a8b9f9fd95546/4fd9d4f384aeaa4ebcbf94ce/4fd96742c4aa99fbc641b2dd/1339894149385/wallpaper_marine_WEB.jpg?format=1500w[/t] Good example of fan art [t]http://s3images.coroflot.com/user_files/individual_files/original_270546_IXDPtJace_q4pBMZT3gDuwk6N.jpg[/t] Bad example of fan art. (I know they're different mediums but the point stands)

(I know they're different mediums but the point stands)
I have to disagree there; neither of the images really adds to or challenges the original concept. The top one is technically very well done; depending on the topology of the second one and any associated animations, it could also be very well done
pretty much done with this? i dunno. probably need to decorate the room so it actually looks like a room and not a weird wooden cell [t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/7529a6ef1873d528a0d04cec19ddd8ca/tumblr_miurieYoj01s32mjoo2_1280.jpg[/t]

I don't think its really up to anyone to decide what is and isn't "good" fanart. Fanart is for fun and to show appreciation for things and concepts you like.
i need to do more fan-art for indie titles. that hotline miami piece was something i kinda just rushed out as a test before i did some uni work and it has ended up everywhere. it was in a eurogamer article and they credited me too. shame it's so much harder to get original work recognised
I got 7000 notes on tumblr for my Tardis painting so far and 2000 for the Led Zeppelin shitty sketch I just posted yesterday.... fucking cunts rebloging my worst art god damn it

I was going to write a rant about how I feel for fan art but I guess nobody needs that. I just hate people that make profit out of it and get more recognition than people who are out there putting their original works that dont have fucking lion king or whatever the pop culture reference is. But I guess people just dont understand.

evil laugh
Wow Paul those are some nice clouds
Not nearly as good as the stuff other people have posted in the thread, but it is a huge advance for someone who have only used pencils and mouse before Sorry for furry thing, couldn't figure anything out to do for testing colors. I seem to screw anatomy up a lot. so if there are any tips for that I'd be grateful. Once again sorry if I got the wrong thread.
Use a shitload of references (real photos for realism, cartoons and drawings if not), a shitload of practice (especially with line weight, anatomy, value, perspective), and a shitload of time patience and perseverance. Oh and then uh...paint a ... paint a bear.
i dont know how big a deal this is, but the only time i really noticed there was a dude coming in was on the first sketch, its not easy to notice him on the other ones
Oh wow... this picture is actually really different than I thought it was. Having not seen the sketch I thought it was a trap door last time he posted, and that she was curled up down on the floor. I was looking at it all wrong.
pretty much done with this? i dunno. probably need to decorate the room so it actually looks like a room and not a weird wooden cell [t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/7529a6ef1873d528a0d04cec19ddd8ca/tumblr_miurieYoj01s32mjoo2_1280.jpg[/t]
That girl is flat as hell and is in a awkward position. Also Im not sure what its all supposed to be, but if the ball is some sort of defender and attacking the guy whos at the door, Id make it more close to the observer, like, bigger and make the ray have a perspective
Since everyone's jumping on your thinger I'll throw my quick take in. Overall it looks pretty solid, but I agree that the girl still looks odd in a few ways I can't really put my finger on readily, the perspective on the beam looks odd once it's pointed out, and that the guy is very difficult to make out. Perhaps the explosion could be adding some lighting or at least edge light to him as well. Personally I don't think the girl's arm needs edge lights since unless the orb is very far in front of her it could still plausibly be lighting up a lot of the forearm. As well her calf could probably have edge lighting on the front if you're going with that, and perhaps a little in the hair (could also look shit, I unno)
I think looking at similar shots from cinema would be a good move if you revise the image; I think it should be as clear as possible what's happening, and I'd do that using the composition of the shot and placement of objects within the shot.
I did an ~artistic~ doodle in class today using the class crayons (apparently we still have those)
Sometimes it's time for chair comix. Now is one of those times.

Not sure I'm a fan of the exaggerated anatomy with the huge midriff and tiny ankles/extremities, but you have a crazy confident style, that fire is wicka-awesome.
Doesn't look much like wicker to me
thanks XD
thank you for the feedback guys. pretty hard to salvage it now but gonna try messing about with the perspective and the depth to see what i can change [editline]27th February 2013[/editline] also anatomy studies lol
