I really liked the last book. I felt it had more tension compared to the other ones. Second on my list is probably Azkaban.
[release]Games And they are all horrible [/release]
Clearly you haven't played the GBC games, especially the first, it was great! Also the free roaming of the console versions was brilliant and Goblet Of Fire was the big ruining game for me
I had the Philosopher's Stone on Playstation (original) Was actually decent..
Bought all the books, read 25 pages into the first one before I tossed them into the fire. I just watched the movies instead. So... Philosophers stone
Wow, Dumb.....
I may be late, but wasn't the book called the SORCERER'S STONE... not Philosophers...?
Many people don't know, but the Philosopher's Stone is a real myth, and the fact that they renamed it really fucked things up. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
I discussed this with a friend a couple of weeks ago. He was on the wiki or something and found out the US title, which had also been used for the films. We were wondering if they had to re-shoot a whole load of scenes to change the lines to "Sorcerer's Stone". Apparently the publishers didn't think a US audience would want to read a book with a word that they couldn't say in the title, or something along those lines. They also changed a lot of minor words like "Jam" to "Jelly" and "Scones" to... You know, whatever. You can't help but facepalm, since more or less all of the characters in the series are english, and talk very obviously like english people. Why would they take the trouble to edit out the smallest of cultural barriers relating to food when it's a staple of the story that it's all in Britain?
It's almost like 4Kids had some involvement.
i dont read books
Naturally the last one is the best because it tops everything off. I definitely anticipated it the most, and thus enjoyed it the most while reading it.

The first few games didn't suck
The last 3 books are pathetic. The whole appeal of the first book was that you could almost experience waking up to a new world with fantastic sights and amazing happenings. It was one of those things that excited the imagination of children and adults everywhere. The problem is, JK obviously wanted to appeal to the same people who bought the first book as they grew up. It became so much more angsty and emo. Yes, it definitely appealed to the age bracket she was targeting, but the books lost so much of their magical feel. There was no more awe or beauty. Magic just became another thing that people could exploit. Don't even get me started on the epilogue, that thing reads like a bad fanfic so much it isn't even funny.
OP forgot to add how Rowling was a poor single mother upon publishing the first copy of her book. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
The last 3 books are pathetic. By then it started to treat magic as a common, everyday occurrence.

i enjoyed the books, except the first half of order of the phoenix was so boring
i enjoyed the books, except the first half of order of the phoenix was so boring
Ya, it's a long book. They also cut 40 minutes from the movie.
So Im not a big fan of the series but I have seen some of the movies and from that can easily tell the books are very well written and thought out. Now I have a quick question, in America its "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone"......different else where?
Awesome series, but the last book and some parts of the sixth were just confusing. Those had too many plot lines that didn't really stick together. Oh and I hated Umbridge with a passion, Rowling did an amazing job at describing her and every single thing she did. It was soo satisfying when she got her ass kicked at the end of the OoP. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
Absolutely not. You do nothing there but memorize phrases and recipes for potions, without any real understanding of how it works and have almost no real world education or understanding of how the world around you works. They stop learning reading, writing, and basic arithmetic after like 10 and then just do magic. You are absolutely ignorant of everything other than the small cloistered world with a relatively tiny population.
Haha, yes I always wondered where the hell they got their eloquency and general knowledge. Breaks the immersion when you think about it.
Well there's no question about the fact that most wizards in the storyline is pretty ignorant about the non-magic world, how it works and the history of it. Which is pretty much a lot of the basis for the muggle-hatred and discrimination.
Azkaban because hermoine is the most sexiest in that.
The books are so damn good and now that I think about it I should've gone for the 6:th because I cried when Dumbeldore died.
It's some pretty easy books to go through, so read them! I must have read them atleast 5 times each, though it's been a while, as I've been busy with Mr. Cornwell.
Don't you talk shit about the games, I just played through the first two with a shitload of nostalgia and they're awesome.
Where is the "This is a shitty book series" option?
Where is the "This is a shitty book series" option?
Good idea come in here just to make an argument. Fuck off. If you don't like it, don't bother and let the people who do like it, like it.
Wow, there are 7 books? The last time I checked it there were 4.
Don't even get me started on the epilogue, that thing reads like a bad fanfic so much it isn't even funny.
I agree with all of your post, but man I hated that fucking epilogue. I kinda regretted reading it. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
Where is the "This is a shitty book series" option?
It's right next to the "Get out" option
These books were awesome when I was 8
I've only actually read the first & last book, despite owning them all; I'll read them eventually... I also live in front of Leavesden Studios where the films were shot. It's annoying as hell having the lights shine in our windows during the night.

I always disliked the books.. Never appealed to me.. same goes with the movies.
I think the last book was the best. Even though it had its long bits when they where camping for chapters on end, it was quite fast past. From reading all the books the last one was probably the one i have reread the most. :)
