You'll get a lot of people tell you this, if you want something really nice and mid range, there's really not a lot of options in the Balisong world. But there are a few every now and then that really shine, namely, the Bradley Kimura series, I've got one, I love it. Smooth flipper and real sharp (watch out!) Totally suggest one. It'll generally run you about $100.

I bought this knife, Kind of sad that it didn't have a portable drink dispenser, But it works fine.
Having trouble finding a sheath for it though.

I have one of these
it's god tier
I love that knife, (Technically a dagger), It's basically "Fuck multipurpose, this thing is made for one thing and one thign alone, to slide easily inbetween the ribs of an enemy sentry."
I have a Kukri, sadly no pictures of it, I also have a pair of these:

You may recognise them as the knives that Riddick used while escaping Crematoria, and the ones I have, are no props, they are solidly made out of good quality steel and boy are they sharp.
Are those holes just for show? Because I'd imagine the holes weakening the knife
what the fuck do i do with this

Oh, knives, yay.
My pointy things:
1 butterfly knife
1 cheap letherman
1 $50 gerber
1 $75 sheffield muti-tool & box cutter
1 gerber "bear grylls" machette (actually really fucking nice, downs small trees in mere seconds)
1 home made scrap metal halberd
a few large hunting knifes
numerous small poketknies scattered about

KABAR Leather Tanto. This knife is a beast, I use it for camping and heavy duty cutting and it has yet to do anything I don't like.

I really want a KABAR but I'm not sure if I want the long or the short.
I recently got a Balisong Flip Blade. Looks something like this-

Real fun practicing flipping it around. The only problem I have is when it flies back and hits my knuckles. Any ideas?
I really want a KABAR but I'm not sure if I want the long or the short.
The short would be good for every day carry, but if you want something with some serious beef I'd spring for the long ones.

I regret not getting the short for that exact reason :v:. I'm getting one of these sent to me, and I'm waiting for a while to get a kershaw Cryo, since it's sold out at all the vendors I use.

Getting this. It seems like a cheap combination. The awesome Mora knife and a firesteel added in. I paid a little more than them combined, but I like the idea of a survival knife having it added into the handle. I got it in Green.

The black looks a bit better, but whatever.

Practice. There's a bit of a knack to doing it right that you don't really notice it.
Are those holes just for show? Because I'd imagine the holes weakening the knife
They're part of the design from the prop from the movie, so yeah show. but the metal apart from the blade bit is about half a centimeter thick maybe a bit more, plus it's pretty strong steel, they;re really solid though, way mroe solid than a kitchen knife

I started thinking about knives again when I first saw this thread and instantly remembered that I never got my hands on a USMC style Ka-Bar. They go for around 700DKK here, which is about 125USD. Do you guys think that it is worth it? I think it's a very sexy knife, but I don't really know what I can use it for.
My collection so far:
I have an Mtech Bowie (cheap and pretty sturdy):

Then a Gear Grylls Compact scout (handy little knife, very good for the fishing box):

A Paul Chen Danish Viking axe (impulse purchase, was quite expensive):

A Leatherman Wave (2 hand edition, otherwise it would be illegal around here, but still very pratical):

And a pair of Ulaks as posted earlier (as seen in the Chronicles of Riddick movie):

Just curious as to why you guys would need these and what you use them for
Just curious as to why you guys would need these and what you use them for
I have a gerber knife that I carry with me at all times, useful for opening packages and such, and self defense. Some of the more fancy knives in here are just collector's items.
[editline]11th March 2013[/editline]
Also have a leatherman multitool, useful and hella sharp but its sometimes a pain to get the specific tool you want on a timely basis.
Just curious as to why you guys would need these and what you use them for
There are plenty of real world applications where having a knife as a tool is extremely helpful, other knives are impractical, but fun/cool to have.
Plus, we can promote self defense while setting ourselves apart from right wing hillbilly gun nuts.
Just curious as to why you guys would need these and what you use them for
Well, they are a must have for hunting and fishing, but also very useful for general outdoor activities, for example if you are a scout or in the military. Some people, like Gabe, just like collecting more unique knives because of their looks.
I'm sorry for the big and not-so-good picture, but these two are the ones I carry with me at all times (except when I'm at work, then I have two others, a basic Mora and a Stanley 99E)
I could get a better picture later, but I gotto run to the driving school now
[t]http://i.imgur.com/3LYNBgy.jpg[/t]
I bought both from DX (Don't hate, they sell good stuff occasionally) for $15, and they are both sharp as fuck. I use the big foldable one for everything, cutting ropes, fikabread, drywall (Only did this once when I forgot my Stanley at home and my colleague had my Mora), you name it.

I assume that you are American since your knives were so cheap. I am extremely jealous, around here a cheap knockoff would cost at least 30-40$.
Got my firesteel mora knife. Looks a bit wacky and like kitchenware, but eh. The blade is fucking awesome and the firesteel is conveniently in the end of the grip and easily detachable. I'd say I made a good buy for when I backpack. Fit's nice and snug in my pocket.
Moras are great knives!
Moras are great knives!
I got the Firesteel Variant since I wanted a knife small enough to carry, but could be decent enough at other things and the foldable I wanted is currently sold out. It fits perfectly in my pocket and my only real complaint is that the sheath seems cheap as hell. Love how the firesteel is just perfectly compact in it.
[editline]12th March 2013[/editline]
I have a Kabar, but that's not exactly an EDC knife unless you have it in a jacket or hanging off of your pants from the belt.

I'm Swedish, I got the knives from DX as I wrote
The big one: http://dx.com/p/steel-manual-release-folding-knife-with-clip-21cm-full-length-30885
The small card one: http://dx.com/p/ysdx-393-cardsharp-credit-card-folding-safety-knife-black-148684
Only con is that the clip on the big one fell off of it only a month after I got it, and the screws are kind of loose. But as I said, I use it every day for everyday shit so I'm not the one to complain.

Do you have a job that requires opening packages on a regular basis? Useful for self defence?
I've got a Kershaw Chill

Pretty solid knife. It's a manual open, but the little nub on the back makes it super easy to flip open. 8Cr13MoV steel, which is comparable to Aus-8. Couldn't be happier for $10.
[editline]6th March 2013[/editline]
I also cut myself on it. So I know firsthand that it's nice and sharp.
I've got the exact same one and it's a really good knife. Never leaves my pocket.
I mostly use it to open envelopes and packages but hey, I'm glad to have it there when I need it :v:
And a really cheap balisong as well, I'd get a nicer one but I don't see myself putting a lot of time into it right now and I don't have the money to spare.
a small blade where you twist the metal part to lock it (I don't know the term)
Opinel. French company. I think I have one of those somewhere too, pretty much every household in France must have one :v:
A friend of mine has an opinel that he found in a parking lot with blood on the blade. He cleaned it and kept the knife. :v:
I love how as you get into higher-end folding pocketknives each manufacturer sort of has their own "intricacies" if you will. It really gives a sense of variety.

I want to get a "Higher End" Kershaw. As in American made and above 50 dollars as well. I was looking at the Piston and the S30V Blur, but like, conveniently, I want to upgrade my computer so I can run Arma 3. So yeah, gotta divert funds for a new motherboard and CPU. Looking at the Cryo again because of that. Cryo seems to be the best under 40 dollar and Chinese made folder.

the cryo is a nice little knife little dull out of the box but nothing a couple passes on a stone can't fix. It's been my EDC for about a month now
