So did I. Maybe the Mirkwood elves are shorter or something.
Thorin revealed! That's all the dwarves then;

Wait a minute. Isn't Thorin suppose to have a huge gold chain/necklace thingy?
The rigid height specifications are probably because of how they film the Dwarves and Hobbits. In the scenes where you can see both a Hobbit and Gandalf in LOTR, the Hobbit is actually a smaller person and not the real actor. That's why they choose really tall or above average actors to play dwarves because dwarves have to be taller than the hobbits as they're also filmed on the small scale sets. Yes, they have to build two seperate sets (for example Bag End has 2 sets, a large one - for hobbits and dwarves to appear smaller - and a small one - for Gandalf to appear oversized). So I guess that's why they need people to be a specific height.
Or, they just want a load of people who are around the same height, so it looks neater or something along those lines.
I can't wait for this shit.
It's easier to get elves at that height as it's harder to find women above 6ft and blokes under five and a half.
So go to the middle ground and then use camera trickery so the elves all look tall but still the same height as eachother.
It's a bit weird though because earlier they looked for taller elves. Males had to be 6ft or up, females had to be 5,7. Maybe the Mirkwood elves will be shorter or something.
Well before they were going to have a lot of average sized people standing around making it harder to make somebody 5.8 look taller.
Now all the characters are gonna be half the size.
Well I just finished reading the book, and something struck me.
Spoilers ahoy!
[sp]When watching the cast list on imdb, why are frodo/legolas in it? As far as I rememberd, they weren't even mentioned in the book. Same goes for Galadriel and Saruman. And how are they going to include the Necromancer and Radagast? I mean there were only a few sentences mentioning them in the entire book. It'll be interesting to see how Peter handles this[/sp]

Flashbacks.
Wait how is it a flashback if it hasn't happened before. I think there's a word for that.
Like a weird kind of foreshadowing.
premonition?
Frodo will most likely ask Bilbo to read him the story at the beginning of Part 1.
Saruman and Galadriel are both members of the White Council.
Legloas is the son of Thranduil, the elvenking of Mirkwood.
I like how they got most of the cast to reprise their role. It's quite a shame though that Andy Serkis is so busy directing now. I don't think it will be the same with Jim Carry portraying Gollum.

Yeah, and I really wonder if Dave Chappelle can play Beorn.

This.
As Gandalf leaves the Fellowship quite a lot Jackson wanted to follow what he does. Which is going to the White Council for advice.

I can't believe I nearly fell for that
They are in need of elf extras:

Would an Asian elf be non-canon? Since I fit the rest of the criteria.

You appear to live in Canada though. Are you going to fly over just for the extra work?
The right man for Beorn?

The Hobbit related metal.
Lyrics are directly from the book and contain huge spoilers, just so you know.
Incredibly awesome and atmospheric song though.

Sadly no since I'm currently in school, but the idea of working as an extra on a set of a Peter Jackson movie really appeals to me, especially since I'm interested in film and film making.

If you want I can use Adobe After Effects to project your Facebook profile image onto a random elf after the Blu-Ray release.
They are in need of more extras!
http://www.odt.co.nz/regions/north-otago/177623/call-hobbit-extras
About 200 extras are being sought for Peter Jackson's film The Hobbit when filming is done in the Twizel area in late November and December.
This week, advertisements are appearing in South Canterbury and Otago newspapers seeking people interested in being extras in the film - as townspeople and elves.
For townspeople, production company 3foot7 said it wanted men and women between 30 and 80 years old with interesting character faces - men with beards.
"All shapes, sizes and ethnicities welcome," the studio said.
For elves, it wants people between 17 and 35 years old, more than 168cm in height.
The casting calls will take place at the Wanaka St John training rooms on September 23; Twizel Events Centre and Tekapo Community Hall on September 24; and Oamaru Opera House Empire Room on September 25.
God damnit I'm so jealous of you New Zealanders! Getting to be in a movie this huge would be a dream come true for me. Even if it means only being on screen for 1 second.
I wonder if this is the first time we'll see a black person in middle earth. (orcs excluded)
In a non-racist way; suddenly seeing an Asian guy in Middle-Earth would sort of ruin the immersion.
Iirc, the Haradrim are supposed to be dark skinned.
Yes, but I don't think they would be hanging out in the North. Especially not as they were friends with Mordor.

Yeah, I just wanted to make the point that not absolutely everyone is white. Middle Earth is supposed to be very ancient Europe in Tolkein canon, I think.

I can see at least Scandinavia (Finland kind of, look at the mass of small lakes up north), Sahara, Middle-East, Italy, Greece, England, Dead Sea and Black Sea.
