The Hobbits in The Hobbit saw a lot of action, especially considering they had a small army of dwarfs and Gandalf with them at all times.
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
And a motherfucking Dragon was the centre of the plot.
Not some pussy Volcano and a dark lords bling.
You mean the Hobbit in the The Hobbit. As in one. As in Bilbo Baggins.
I think David Tenant may be a bit to tall to be a Hobbit.
you think Elijah Wood (or any of the other actors that played a Hobbit) is as small as he seemed in the LotR movies?
they had dwarf/midget stunt doubles for the full shots
All the dwarf actors are taller-than-average actors, and the hobbit actors smaller-than-average, so they could film the 2 sets of actors in the same scene, as dwarves are larger than hobbits.
they had dwarf/midget stunt doubles for the full shots
this and they digitally pasted on the actors' faces.
not to mention they had the cg of every character in the fellowship. when they're running towards the bridge of khazad dum in the long shot, all of those characters are computer generated versions of themselves
David Tenant does not have the typical "hobbit face", as in roundish. I think he's a bit too skinny.
David Tennant isn't The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage have been confirmed to star in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.
In a statement, Warner Bros verified rumours that Sherlock star Freeman will portray Bilbo Baggins in the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation, which is set to be split across two films.
Spooks star Armitage has landed the role of Thorin Oakenshield, the Company of Dwarves' leader who attempts to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon.
Director Jackson said: "Despite the various rumours and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us.
"There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."
On Armitage, Jackson added: "Richard is one of the most exciting and dynamic actors working on screen today and we know he is going to make an amazing Thorin Oakensheild. We cannot wait to start this adventure with him and feel very lucky that one of the most beloved characters in Middle-earth is in such good hands."
Being Human's Aidan Turner and Rob Kazinsky, who played Sean Slater in EastEnders, complete the Company of Dwarves as Kili and Fili respectively.
"Adian is a wonderfully gifted young actor who hails from Ireland," Jackson added. "I'm sure he will bring enormous heart and humour to the role of Kili.
"Rob is an extremely talented young actor with a huge career in front of him. I'm thrilled that he has agreed to take on the role of Fili. Besides his talent as an actor, Rob is also a champion sword fighter - I'm looking forward to seeing the damage he can do to a horde of marauding goblins!"
Also appearing in the movies are 24's Graham McTavish as Dwalin, John Callen from Power Rangers Jungle Fury as Oin, All Saints' Stephen Hunter as Bombur, King Kong actor Mark Hadlow as Dori, and Peter Hambleton from The Strip as Gloin.
The films, to be produced by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Carolynne Cunningham, are scheduled for release in December 2012 and December 2013.
Martin Freeman as Bilbo? Good. Freeman was beyond incredible in Sherlock and is pretty much the best out of the rumoured selection. I love Tennant but he's far too powerful in his movements for Bilbo.
Freeman is a good choice. Richard Armitage is also a fantastic choice. The rest of the cast (Eastenders actors?) is worrying. But I'm sure it will be fine. It IS Peter Jackson.
Some of the finest little known actors here.

Well the dwarves don't really need to act because you can hardly see their face behind their beards.

There's more to acting than just facial expressions

Good on Freeman. First John Watson and now Bilbo. The guy is becoming the king of portraying literary characters.
This should be renamed to "a hitchhiker's guide to middle earth".

Sorta missed Arthur Dent out there...
Although some of the actors portraying the dwarfs looks way to young, it doesn't matter, because they'll be completely covered in prostheses and hair anyways.
Congrats to Martin Freeman I guess.
Impressive cast, though largely unheard of outside the UK I would imagine.

Even Bilbo is like around 50 years old in the book, isn't he?
They must get atleast 2 Scottish Dwarves
Brian Blessed and Peter Mullan should be in this.
A lot of people think Bill Nighy should voice Smaug. It could work, but his voice isn't very deep, as you'd expect from a dragon.
There is a slight possibility that the movie will be shot in Norway.
Even Bilbo is like around 50 years old in the book, isn't he?
Bilbo is 51, if it was exactly 60 years since he took the ring (in LOTR he was celebrating his 111th birthday.)
Also, Dwarves have an average lifespan of 250 years, a young actor playing a 60 year old Dwarf would make sense.
Smaug should be voiced by Patrick Stewart.

Lifespans are longer, they don't age as quick.
Same applies to Hobbits. I remember Frodo was pretty old for how he looked.
Stephen Fry is the latest actor to be linked to a role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.
According to Deadline, Fry and 16-year-old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan are "possible participants" in the two-part fantasy epic. Fry previously worked with Jackson to write a screenplay for a Dam Busters remake, while Ronan led the cast of the director's Lovely Bones adaptation.
Bill Nighy is said to be in the running to provide the voice of dragon Smaug, and the previously mentioned James Nesbitt and David Tennant are still under consideration for parts.
Warner Bros yesterday confirmed the main cast for The Hobbit, which includes UK TV stars Martin Freeman (Sherlock), Richard Armitage (Spooks), Aidan Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders).
The two movies, to be produced by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Carolynne Cunningham, are scheduled for release in December 2012 and December 2013.
All actors mentioned above deserve a part.
I'm not sure if Nighy has the right voice for Smaug..
Peter Cullen :D? Although people would be all "Lol, when's he gonna transform and roll out?".
I look forward to watching another film in the LOTR series.

Sylvester Mccoy played The Doctor in Doctor Who back in the 80's. David Tennant who played The Doctor recently was rumoured to get the role of Bilbo and hasn't got it. He is rumoured to be playing an elf.
I'm glad they don't with very famous actors.
The night is darkest ere the dawn… and dawn has ever been the hope of Men!
After days of closed door talks between New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and Warner Bros. executives, the verdict is out today:
THE HOBBIT WILL BE MADE IN NEW ZEALAND.
Mr.John Key has only minutes ago announced at a press conference in the Beehive theaterette that Sir Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films will indeed be filmed in New Zealand.
Media outlets have yet to post links to any videos… but stay tuned to TORn for updates as more of the good news makes its way on to the interweb.
TODAY IS A PROUD DAY FOR KIWIS… AND A JOYOUS ONE FOR FANS AROUND THE WORLD.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE AND ALL.
Anyone here on Facepunch who lives around Wellington should try to get cast as extras. Seriously, it'll probably end up extremely popular, so anyone letting a chance like this slip would be a complete twat.
