I am so god damn excited for this movie. The Hobbit was my favorite of the books, and I just got the 50th Anniversary Edition, all hardcovered and beautiful. Love it.
I've read the book, it was fucking great.
Whole bunch of actors confirmed!

still no official news on mckellan though :(
Probably saving the announcement for later ;)
Damn...
I don't know if I should poke fun at the LOTR series to piss Tolkien fans off. Or I could express the fact that I actually enjoyed the Hobbit book.
Agreed, I liked The Fellowship of the Ring a hell of a lot more than The Two Towers or The Return of the King.
Something about the huge open shots like the Minas Tirith scene just made me feel disconnected, while scenes at the Shire and such were a lot more personal and really pull you into the film.
Fellowship also didn't start to make shit up. It changed the location of the ending a bit which was okay to make it a better experience, and it cut what was basically a timewaster with Tom Bombadil. Otherwise it's pretty much frame by frame faithful.
I really hope The Hobbit takes on the same faithful bring-it-to-life approach with little in the way of shitty CGI copouts. The world needs a good dragon movie. Even if Smaug is a fag-ish snake dragon.

Wait what they're using a different Bilbo?! Fale.
Was never a huge fan of LOTR, but I will see anything with Martin Freeman in it.

Why the fuck are Galadriel and Legolas even in the movie?
They weren't even in the book!
What the hell are you doing Peter Jackson?
Legolas is the son of the elfking in Mirkwood, so he could be there.

as an extremely minor character :colbert:
We will look back on these posts and laugh in 2012.
Bumping.
I found this information that Elijah Wood will be in The Hobbit

This was the most recent thread I found.

Why was he rated dumb? He's right, I've read the book twice.....not even MENTIONED!
Maybe (hopefully) they will just be cameos.
Galadriel will probably be at the White Council. Legolas is the son of the King of Mirkwood.
I'd rather have them show what Gandalf is doing instead of just being told.

If I recall there were no women in the book.
Why has no one mentioned the fucking battle of the five armies yet? That is almost entirely the sole reason for me wanting this movie. It's the elves, dwarves, humans, beorn in giant bear form, eagles vs. the orcs and the wolves. Plus theres the smaug the dragon and the black arrow! Goddamn
As far as I'm aware, the first film will be the Hobbit, and the second film a semi-made-up link to the trilogy. Hence Legolas, etc
I have a giant urge to read all of the books again. Including The Hobbit (which I thought was the most enjoyable).

No, this was the mainrumor at first, but it turned out to actually be The Hobbit split in two.
Oh, and Ian McKellen has signed on. Andy "Gollum" Serkis is close to join in as well.
I loved the book, can't goddam wait. :(
Christopher Lee confirmed to return as Saruman.
But....Again, Saruman isn't even mentioned in the book....
You know what? I'm getting more and more curious now.
Apparently David Tennant has joined the cast.

The tiny sub-plot with Gandalf will be more fleshed out. That's why we'll see Galadriel, Radagast, Saruman, Elrond etc.
As long as we see the Battle of the 5 Armies, I guess I'll be happy
Well, we all know Mr.Jackson likes to create big battles, so I don't think you'll be disappointed. As long as it's all shown on screen, and we don't simply have Bilbo blank out then wake up, only to have everything explained to him. I want so see Beorn fuck shit up.
yeah if they use that software again, i think it was called MASSIVE or something to create large scale battles where each soldier has it's own AI.
I can't wait until Dec. 2012 for this. :smith:
