there's no need for a tie-in to lord of the rings.. just do the hobbit.
When this comes out, i am going to watch all of the LOTR movies back to back.

You know I just thought of this. What if the setting were to be in China and they put that poster up? I wonder how many would apply. :haw:
Ron Perlman's angry quip about not wanting to be in The Hobbit because Del Toro isn't working on it anymore is so silly. Yeah, no way this could be pulled off with that hack Peter Jackson. :downs:
Can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for this movie. The Lord of the Rings movies easily stand as the best film trilogy ever made, and the books are damn near holy symbols in my family.
From a casting call some weeks back(the top white line marks 2m/6ft6). Rather funny;

is 5'11" good enough?
is 5'11" good enough?
I'm not sure. The height difference isn't that big, and I don't think they measure you. Could always give them a call if you live in NZ and ask them nicely :)
This is probably my favorite book of all time. I really hope the movie turns out as the original LOTR trilogy.
The Hobbit has been once again delayed due to the Earthquake in Christchurch :saddowns:
But fair enough, they're helping out with the relief efforts for the Earthquake.
Sir Peter Jackson and ‘Hobbit’ production staff have offered their assistance to those affected by the Christchurch earthquake and have been in touch with Civil Defense and Emergency Management to provide help.
Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter:
“everyone involved in the production of The Hobbit is shocked and saddened by the earthquake and it’s devastating aftermath.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Christchurch and all those affected by this terrible tragedy,” he said.
Filming of The Hobbit will be further delayed due to the disaster.
The shoot was set for March 21 at Stone Street studios in Wellington and on location around the country.
Eh, as far as I remember, there was a statement where they said the earthquake had no effect on the filming dates. It's still March 21.
yeah that's what i heard initially too, but this article says otherwise.

Ian McKellen posted this on his website
"I've seen Bilbo — in three dimensions.
I was visiting old friends in the Stone Street offices and heard Martin Freeman was just round the corner by the permanent greenscreen, done up as Bilbo, testing his costume in front of the 3D cameras. Indeed, there he was in the open air, mostly oblivious to the camera, though turning this way and that as required. Martin improvised a hobbity gait, padding back and forth, testing his big hairy Hobbit feet, pointy ears and little tum.
Beneath the shade of a tent, in a sun hat, Andrew Lesnie was remotely controlling the two lenses within the mighty camera which digitally records in 3D. His screen showed the familiar 2D image but next to it, above the director's chair, was a large colour screen in full magical three dimensions, much as it will appear in the cinema — courtesy of the spy-glasses that transform the blurred outlines onscreen to the high definition exactitude of the 3D effect.
Three Bilbos simultaneously, two performances on screen and the actor beyond: which was the real one? Martin Freeman was transmuting into a character whose reality will soon be as authentic as his own."
Yeah i want all future Hobbit movie news to be written and told by him.

Sounds like he wrote it in-character to me
I absolutely dreaded the parts in the movies with the hobbits, It was so boring as they didn't fight or anything. God damn I felt like killing myself especially cause it was like *EPIC BATTLE FOR 10 MINUTES* *hobbits for an hour* *EPIC BATTLE FOR 10 MINUTES*. A whole movie about a hobbit? God damn I really hope he makes it exciting some how.
i dont think 2 hours of constant fighting with pretty cgi effects makes for a good movie
Keep up the good work guys with getting all the information about the movie, actors, comments from the actors like whats from ian mckellen :) love it. Can't wait for it personally, and i'm happy it's gonna be in 2 parts so there is so much content :D. And Howard shore is gonna compose the music for this one as well right? I really hope so, there is no middle earth atmosphere without Howard shore and the others who composed original lotr.
Add Ian's Hobbit blog to OP http://www.mckellen.com/cinema/hobbit-movie/blog.htm
Yes Howard Shore is back on board for the soundtrack, something I'm very excited about.

I read that in Gandalf's voice.
I'm gonna have to read the book again so i'm 100% ready and last time i read it i was 13 years old and that's 8 years ago now.

I wouldn't mind hearing some short musical themes from the LotR trilogy. Just a few, here and there.

I think they should keep parts of "Concerning Hobbits" and "The Shire" for the scenes taking place in Hobbiton.
I think they should keep parts of "Concerning Hobbits" and "The Shire" for the scenes taking place in Hobbiton.
I think we may get a full version of "The Road Goes Ever On and On".
I srsly can't wait for this movie! I've seen lotr trilogy like 9000 times..
I have high hopes for this movie becose of Peter Jackson did so awesome
job on lotr!
Peter jackson and the crew will not dissapoint us with this one, and especially with weta workshop and digital cooperating with them again this can't go bad :) I got pretty high hopes too because the standards, effects all the props armors, and everything weta made in the lotr trilogy was so great quality.
Just looking at how realistic some of the aliens in Avatar looked, I'm super excited to see how the CGI creatures will look in this.

Costumes and props beat CGI any day.
Costumes and props beat CGI any day.
Of course, but looking at how good the CGI for LOTR was when it was released, I'm really looking forward to see what they can come up with.
