that's what you say now but when you read the books you actually understand more ;). well theres alot of m ore content like in cirth ungol when Sam thinks frodo is dead he picks up the ring and think about going to mount doom himself, but when he hears the orcs around the corner he takes the ring on to become invincible

I know most of that stuff from the BBC Radio Dramatization of the books I listened to when I was young - same goes for the Hobbit.

Also, [sp]Tom Bombadil[/sp] in FOTR. But that part was pretty pointless and rightfully cut from the movie version.

Just so you guys know, the blu-ray version of the LotR trilogy (extended) just came out. It's awesome!

I should buy them (even though I have the DVD's). I remember buying the FOTR extended edition, and the discs were supposed to be:
Disc 1
Disc 2
Disc 3
Disc 4

instead mine was:
Disc 1
Disc 2
Disc 3
Disc 3

I didn't like the extended versions much - especially Hobbition in the Fellowship - it was better in the normal version.
