I understand your point, I am english, and i'm trilingual (if that's a word), I speak english, spanish and i'm learning french. Hell, I speak spanish and french to my foreign friends to show that I appreciate their home language so they don't have to speak english all the time. Plus it helps me learn.

Though my English is quite good, I can write a two page essay on Macbeth like nothing as preppy boy to the right takes long and writes like a retard, the jokes on him because I'm actually dyslexic and he isn't. I, too, think that people should strive to learn as many languages as they can, but then again I cannot fathom how anyone would not want to be homo universalis.

But it's pointless so we usually forget it by the time we're in college. And I am well aware of what Esperanto is. It was intended to be a worldwide second language. But English has sort of taken that role, so Esperanto is usually not vital. Oh, but I do think that learning a second language is pretty important. I don't think a country should be judged by that, though.:|
