He wasn't jailed anywhere near long enough for him to go to prison. The reason why most people never expected to see him again is that he only did two commercials which despite having gotten a lot of attention, were still dwarfed by the popularity of Billy Mays in the advertising business. (Remember, Billy Mays died after Vince got arrested.) So most people thought that people would turn to other people to advertise their products to avoid being connected with someone whose known for beating a hooker. But he's shown that he's very good at parodying himself and going in that direction kind of makes such things less relevant.
