My whole point was that someone who is overweight shouldn't demand extra-respect for their condition. I know there are people who do indeed have a genetic condition, but the people who are just too lazy/unmotivated to do something about it shouldn't go around waving "fat acceptance!! be proud of being lazy!" in people's faces.
I'm not saying people in a specific weight range are healthier then others. Skinny people, in many cases, are less healthy then those who are overweight. I don't think we should deem them fit, either.
Regardless, I agree with your general point. If they aren't doing anything exactly wrong then they don't deserve disrespect. Still, though, the message this video is sending off ("im fat and i can do stuff about it but don't want to, gibe respekt pls") isn't exactly an A+ moral.
"Extra respect" for someone who is constantly being disrespected will simply put them in line with the amount of respect and dignity that everyone else is already afforded.
You see a thin person and you think "person". You see a fat person and you think "fat person". It isn't unreasonable or overbearing for the latter to want to just be seen as a person as well.
I wouldn't have a problem with the whole fat acceptance thing if the people who pushed it were reasonable. As in, if they said things like, "We're fat because we choose to be, it doesn't make us lesser people."
However, the entire movement is plagued by delusion. It's more fat people trying to blame anything they can find except themselves for their condition, stating that they should be treated equal because they have no control over it. Hell, it isn't uncommon to read fat acceptance things that say it's as much of an option as race is, which is absolutely ridiculous. Smokers and alcoholics are discriminated against in society, yet you don't see them raising hell about it because they understand it was their choice to smoke/drink in the first place and therefore signed up for everything it entails.
More importantly, the fat acceptance movement is actually the fat women's acceptance movement. I don't know if I've seen a single male pushing that shit, ask pretty much any fat male why he is fat and he will say, "I like to eat." I'd be willing to go as far as saying fat acceptance and hardcore feminism go hand in hand.

this pretty much sums up everything. although i wouldn't say hardcore feminism, (there's some crazy bitches out there) but i do agree on pretty much all of this

Fat people who blame fast food, and other things as the reason for why they're fat piss me off. I'm fat because I'm lazy, and I have no problem admitting it. I'm not a huge bowling ball, but I do have a beer belly.
I'm really on the fence about this fat acceptance movement. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but a lot of overweight people don't have a genetic condition or whatever to explain for their weight and are fat because... well, they're either lazy, a glutton, or have no idea what a proper, healthy diet is. Why should I accept that? Why should I hold some form of respect for that?
I dunno, I'm probably not looking at it right/completely missing the point.
exactly this is true
if we accept stupid decisions it'll just encourage more stupid decisions and make things worse. Don't encourage the stupid, please. Total fat acceptance is 100% more asinine that fat hatred.

blaming fast food is kind of easy to see. People eating fast food a lot blaming their genetics are the ones that NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
don't eat so much of it and you wont be that fat.

Being fat is fine as long as your honest.
being unfair to others about being fat, unless you have true medical reason to be angry about it, is not. However. It's psychotic and people with legitimate (and very horrifying) diabetes's/thyroid problems look stupid.
I can see somebody doing cardio for like, 30 minutes or so, then strength training/lifting to take about hour, hour and a half. Then again, I wouldn't do that 6 days a week.
2 or 3 times a week would be good enough if you were doing cardio and weight work.
That is what I got from the OP video, it isn't about "I'm fat, leave me alone and feel bad for me" as others have pointed out. Basically everyone is genetically different, you can be big but healthy, small and unhealthy. The video was more about obtaining a healthy lifestyle and treat others with the same level of respect you would want. Trying fight against the whole "perfect image" stereotype.
And all the posts above me just prove that people don't understand what she was trying to get across.
Sorry for the late reply, but no, not really.
The entire video she talks about how being fat isn't her fault and that there's nothing she can do about it, that's a huge "I'm fat, leave me alone and feel bad for me". She just barely scrapes on the "fat&healthy" part, which does exist, but is rare because the reason most people get fat is because they have an unhealthy lifestyle, you can eat healthy but still get chubby, which isn't bad for your health, but this isn't the case in her presentation, even though she tries to make it look like it.
I really hate this whole fat acceptance movement, mainly how they blame all of it on genetics and go on about how healthy it is. REALLY not hard to look after your body and lose weight / live a healthy life style
Reupload of video?
Basically the biggest point they're missing is that eating like a family of 5 isn't a genetic predisposition. It's not a trait that somebody is forced with (for vast majority of people). It's like posting a video for cancer acceptance for smokers. Don't act all victimized and all that bullshit, you did it to yourself.
I'm in somewhat bad shape. It's my biggest goal this summer to stop making false promises and actually start giving a shit about what I eat. That, I believe, is the correct approach to dealing with being overweight. Making bullshit videos and self-stroking about continuing to make the worst decision of your life is not.
Exactly. Eating a fuck ton and not working out what so ever is not something that your genes did to you, its something you did to yourself. These people will probably sit around and lie to themselves instead of ever trying to fix it. Bothers me
I don't think obesity should be celebrated but I get that she way saying that it isn't a matter of aesthetics (fat vs thin) it's a matter of lifestyle (healthy vs unhealthy).
I know a bunch of skinny people who eat their fucking faces off and never even leave their house but hey, they are skinny so they are healthy, right?

I think if you actually counted the calories those skinny people ate, it wouldn't be nearly as much as you think it is.
It's been proven that fat people underestimate how much they eat and skinny people overestimate how much they eat. I can pretty much guarantee you that if you put a camera on a skinny person who supposedly eats their face off and one on a fat person who claims to barely eat anything all day, you'd find the fat person still eats much larger amounts more frequently throughout the day.
A lot of skinny people inadvertently do what is called intermittent fasting, especially if they're dudes who sit on the computer all day. They sit there not eating or drinking much all day, then gorge on an entire pizza or something like that. It might seem like they're eating oh so much, but in reality the amount of calories consumed at the end of the day is nothing too extraordinary, there's just the illusion of them eating a lot because all of those calories are being consumed in a short amount of time.
lol video got taken down
