well I'm British and to me a public school is one funded by the government, hence public school as anyone can go, and private schools are just private schools. Grammar schools are public schools which require a preliminary test in order to go to zed school. I go to a grammar school and the pressure isn't that much different from a public school, except from next year they're making year 8s take GCSE's. O.o
Back on to the thread. I don't revise much but normally I just look in textbooks and read through my notes.
Year 8's taking GCSE's? Why would you have 13-year olds taking GCSE's?
Never listen to music when attempting to revise, it almost halves your brains capacity to store information.
Where's your source for what I believe to be utter bullshit?
You guys took mocks and shit right?
What were you predicted as your grades?
I'm still doing coursework D:
What I'd like to get:
Maths A*
Biology A*
Chemistry A*
Physics A*
ICT A*/A
Latin A*
History A*/A
Geography A/A*
English B
English Lit B
RE Short Course B/C
Apparently the average Oxford student gets 7 A*s in their GCSEs. But I'd like to go to Cambridge, and they don't look at GCSEs as much, or so I heard. I've already got an A* in statistics, though.
For A Level I want to do Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Politics. I need an A or A* in maths, a B in physics and a B in English to get in; my biggest problem will be English: THE POEMS ARE FUCKING SHIT.
For subjects like History and business, make sure you get a LOT of practise on your exam technique, knowing your stuff is half of the grade, the other half is being able to structure your answers appropriately, so get doing past papers for those sorts of subject.
Ooh, I've heard that further maths is one fucking tough subject.
Stick posters/information above your bed about the subject, and the wall opposite your door.
Then, every time you walk in you read at, and same with going to sleep
I should start revising now but I just don't have time. What with essays and history coursework.
Most effective way that I find is to make notes of my work and get someone to test me on it. Of course half the time I can't be bothered to do this which leads to shit marks.
My revision technique is as follows:

carry on as normal until the day before the exam

drink drink drink

party party party

wake up

go to uni

monster revision session with friends

remember stuff from lectures

pass
Worked every time.
On a few occasions I missed steps 2 and/or 3
and on one occasion it was more like 1,4,5,2,7,8

I looked through an A2 textbook once and it was really confusing, but then again I've not done anything more advanced than GCSE and them Maths Challenge things (Pink Kangaroo tomorrow!). Still, I like maths - I'm thinking of taking Mathematics with Physics at Cambridge and using it as a way to get into either Astrophysics or Quantum Physics.
I'm predicted all A*'s and I'M NOT ACHIEVING ANY OF IT.
but meh, hakuna matata.
