You're right, do you think I should thin the outer branches, maybe delete some of them?
You should try that with some of the bigger branches yeah.
I think if you did people would like it if you could use a non anti-alsed mode, if there is one, since that's the whole reason people ask you to not use win 7 brushes
umm, sorry, what IS anti alised heard it several times
ahh, now i know what it is, ill use paint.net
Hello!
Good job on the effort part guys! :D
But I would like to point out that the most of you ignored the part where I said pick a light source...
This challenge was for drawing a tree AND knowing how shades form depending on the light source. SO far only WastedJamacan understood that I think.
I did use a light source, fgt
I did use a light source, fgt
It's very subtle. And I wanted you to cast a shadow on the floor. You should have also drawn more branches like the reference, so you could cast shadows on other branches and those branches need to be thinner as your tree doesn't look realistic.
I think the colors are better now, but I the light is pretty fucked up..
umm, sorry, what IS anti alised heard it several times

Anti-Aliasing is basically when there's a gradient sort of effect at the edge of a color to make it blend with other colors. This is fine for photographs and such, but obviously not for this type of pixel art. Paint.NET is great if you just use the pencil tool (pretty sure the brush is AA'd), but if you want I can link you a version of Vista paint, it's the same as XP paint but with fancier icons.
http://www.mediafire.com/?nymzmoozt22
you can click a button in the toolbar which says "Antialiasing"
that'll stop antialiasing from everything, brushes, paint cans etc. etc. in PDN
The contributions in this thread so far are excellent. If I wasn't painting the house I'd dump something in here. RL painting sucks so hard.
I heil the paint in here.
You are more than welcome to join the next one if you'll have the time :D
And yeah real painting is kinda wonky, but I really enjoy messing around with all that paint, cause it's so smooshy. :P

You meant painting the walls of your house....
Yeah that sucks.
My wrist always hurts after using my tablet for a while...

I guess I have to draw the tree too...
If you didn't draw that over the reference picture, then you are excellent at drawing. It's a shame that, analyzing this carefully, you realize the measures between the reference picture and yours are coincidentally too similar...

This is the reference image over yours. See the lack of difference?
You could have just tried to do this normally. If I am wrong about this supposition, then execute me, burn me, rape me and burn me again.
I think it wasn't traced, but I'm interested in the artists reply :)
We hope it isn't, because It would be very well done if it ain't.
take a gander at their deviantart
your answer is right there

Not traced. Artist is amazing.
She has nice stuff in there. But I can't notice if what she does is on paint, or on another program. Photoshop maybe?
Anyways, congrats for your work Jenny, and sorry for my inmature reaction. You have a damned nice talent over there.
Pixel Brush tool seems to be a theme, photoshop CS5? Still good to get PB stuff looking properly painted nevertheless.

That was done in paint, everything on my DA is done in photoshop CS4
[editline]29th November 2010[/editline]
Oh, except for the older stuff, that's painted in photoshop 7... I think... or 8 and I'm not sure if I have anything hand drawn up there... I think I have some life drawing which would be traditional materials.
You've got some amazing stuff on your DA page Jenny.

You're awesome, and thank you for your awesome MS Paint contribution :3
I drew the tree:

more of a sketch this time.
[editline]29th November 2010[/editline]
You sure picked a difficult tree :v:
Wow, that is very good.
Although the fence is missing :v:

My best. I have to improve my shading technique a lot; so some good C&C will be warmly welcomed :)
[editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
Gah, I just shouldn't have done any shading. It looks horrible.

This is better. Aaaah. Shadeless.
Look this hand.

Notice how the grooves between the fingers lower as they go towards the pinky.
Your reference picture is slightly angled so it looks like all the spaces are lined up. But you've drawn you hand straight on so it looks weird.
that hand is gross ewww
I tried to draw it angled, but I am a mess for drawing. Thanks for the piece of advice, anyway :)

I can see your improvement from the previous picture, I like.
Here have a look at this

Notice how at the lines of the bones, they don't stay straight, but rather they curve, here I'll draw out the lines to get an idea of how it would generally look

thanks Anax. Your C&C is always inspiring.
Leaving this here :3
