Anyone have a suggestion of a long, "epic" fantasy adventure, like that of Lord of the Rings or Sword of Truth series? Preferably a series that has 3+ books. I'm not picky much
Mistborn, Stormlight Archive and whatever else Sanderson has cooking
Did anyone read my Detective Lowe book thus far and enjoy it?
There's this one book I don't remember. It's like humans traveling on a spacecraft to another star system. They changed themselves so that they perceive time more slowly, so that when objects materialize in their hands, it's really just robot servants putting them there at normal speed.
I also wrote a screenplay recently and sent a few query letters out to some places. Anyone want to read it?

Has anyone read The Martian Chronicles? I'll probably be starting that tomorrow [editline]30th July 2014[/editline] Actually I'm going to get Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka out of the way first
What's the premise of the story?
Basically it's an alternate history scenario where the atomic bomb is dropped on Germany instead of Japan. It takes a lot after "The Best Years of our Lives" though.
Just finished All Quiet on the Western Front. Very interesting read. I'm going to move on to Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes. Hope it's good.
Just read 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. It was good, but I'm strangely disappointed, and I can't place why. Anyone else read anything by him? I've got Kafka on the Shore too but I think I'll give it a few days before I start it. He reminds me a lot of D.F. Wallace, in a way. Can't always understand the book, but the experience is worth it so I don't mind.
Completed To Kill a Mockingbird - Not as easy read as The Book Thief but the story told from 10 year old's perspective and the use of language in such clever way warrants a read. Overall an impressive story.
I was wondering if anyone knew any good books that are similar to Sven Hassel's war books? I've been reading and re-reading them for quite some time now and I am dying for something new.

I'm not picky much
The Once and Future King. It's a collection of 5 books about King Arthur. The first being The Sword in the Stone that became the Disney film. I just finished Sword in the Stone. Apparently they start childish but get progressively darker as Arthur grows up. Which is probably why Sword in the Stone reads like a cartoon. It's not quite epic adventure. But it has a vibrant fantasy world taking a lot from mythology and arthurian legend. Robin Hood even turns up. It's really the definitive tale of Arthur and worth a read.
What is a good readable book covering modern world history, say, ~18th century to present day?
Has anyone else read Kill-Zone Ascendancy? What a good book!
Has anyone read any screenplays they like recently? Or any screenplays?
Just finished Quiet by Susan Cain and The Return of History and the End of Dreams by Robert Kagan, currently checked out Capital in the Twenty-First Century by Thomas Piketty and ordered No Place to Hide by Glenn Greenwald. Anyone else here read mostly non-fiction?

I'm not picky much
"The last kingdom" by Bernard Cornwell. The guy writes well and he shits them out in quick succession. I've been entertained, at least. Though it's basically a historical novel, not an epic fantasy adventure. Been reading "Borgia" and now "Tudors" by CJ Meyer, and for all you history buffs out there - he writes really well, and they've been very entertaining so far.
Completed To Sir With Love - Easy read. Autobiography. Back to school memories. Stirs a little on the subject of racial prejudices.
How's 'I am the messeger' by Markus Zusak? Also, read 'The Fault in Our Stars' I felt like it was just right for people my age
How's 'I am the messeger' by Markus Zusak?
Heard it was really good from people, but haven't read it yet. The Book Thief was also by him and was amazing so it's probably good.
I was recently reading Catch 22 and it didn't quite click for me for some reason. Really annoyed me because many people say it's one of the best books about war. I'm currently working my way through Vonnegut's books though. He's a genius.
Heard it was really good from people, but haven't read it yet. The Book Thief was also by him and was amazing so it's probably good.
Was concidering buying The Book Thief, geuss I'll check them out sometime soon
Was concidering buying The Book Thief, geuss I'll check them out sometime soon
I would highly recommend it. You won't regret the purchase.
I picked up Ready Player One the other day and just finished. I thoroughly loved it for the most part, but there were a few bits where it was too clear that it was Cline's first book. Regardless, I'm excited to read whatever else he puts out; he's got a ton of potential. Onwards to the next problem. Do I read The King In Yellow next, or Detroit City Is The Place To Be? Both have been collecting dust for too long.
On book 11 of the harry dresden files at the moment, I can't believe I've never stumbled onto these books before. Every one of them is perfection. It's a fantasy-mystery-noir-comedy type series "You’re in America now. Our idea of diplomacy is showing up with a gun in one hand and a sandwich in the other and asking which you’d prefer." "Did you bring a sandwich?" "What do I look like, Kissinger?"
Finished all AsoIaF books, worth the money I'd say
Was concidering buying The Book Thief, geuss I'll check them out sometime soon
The Book Thief is one my favorite books. It's told so beautifully.
why do people use bookmarks?
