i still have my fat ps2 that came with jax and gran turismo 3
yea my version 2 fat PS2 still works perfectly i'm still not sure how the disc reader has managed to sustain itself after all of these years i believe most people reported theirs failing after 2-3 years?
Never owned any Playstation product until this year with a PS3. I did play some Playstation games back in the day but not many. I kinda missed out.
half a year ago my friend went dumpster diving and found like 5 slim PS2s that still worked and I bought one off him for $25
We have a couple of these broken guys in back where I work. Really should get around to fixing em. That and the 5 million xbox 360s and ps3s
Still have my fat unit from 2001, working fine. And kept all the demo discs I got
Every once in awhile I'll plug my PS2 in and look through my old save games and feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. It feels so strange when I see a save date from 10 years ago.
There's a japanese debugging PS2 stored somewhere in the other room. He didn't mention that originally the Japanese and North American models were two major hardware revisions: Japan's console used a PCMCIA card to handle an ethernet adapter and the hard drive externally while over here the hard drive fit inside the console's expansion bay and the ethernet adapter plugged into a proprietary socket. He also did not mention that the Playstation 2 was the first console to use IEEE-1394 (firewire) as an integrated and alternate network interface to connect multiple consoles together. Gran Turismo supported it. Everyone however needed their own TV.
I always thought the white blocks at the startup were an indicator of how many times the system had been turned on, and that after a while of filling up the screen with blocks, it would actually reset to showing almost none. I guess I heard wrong all these years
I still have a modded fat PS2, it's not only chipped but also has a 500GB HDD full of games. Absolutely fantastic console.

This is the main reason I want to do it, I would love to play my games in proper HD without having to spend a lot making my PC not shit.
This makes me miss the days when game releases were plentiful. Today's current gen consoles don't have jack shit. The Wii U is just barely starting to expand its library, but that's after like what, 2 years?
Oh yeah, we also have so many fucking PS2 games in my shop it's ridiculous. Like PS2 games and the DVDs are the only things we have that are buy two get one free because we have so many. We also have a ps2 that's running a demo video on one of the screens. It's sitting in our bathroom behind the TV on the most percarious shelf ever, above the fucking sink. if that's not a fire hazard i dont know what is

When I was younger I thought the network adapter/hard drive add-on was so awesome for a console. Same with being able to run linux natively. I gotta get myself setup with one...
Pepper;46513628']You can do the memcard exploit if you have certain games like 007 nightfire.
Fuck now I regret not getting it when I had the chance.
I didn't have as memory card for like 6 months after getting my PS2 on the Xmas it launched. My brothers and I would play THPS4 as far as we could each day before turning it off. The day our dad said he was buying a memory card was one of the most memorable days of my life.

We got our PS2 and rented games on it for at least two months before getting a memory card. I remember the huge dip of sadness I'd get every time my parents told us to turn it off when I'd finally unlocked something new in whatever game. I also have to say that the PS2 has some of my favorite games ever on it. I'm a huge fan of the Armored Core series, and Armored Core 3 and its direct sequel Armored Core: Silent Line are my two absolute favorites. I remember getting Armored Core: Nexus, Ninebreaker, and Last Raven as presents and playing them for hours on end. I really miss those days of coming home from school to unwind with some of that or some Gran Turismo.

My PS2 slim can no longer read discs, which makes me sad. Can't play my favorite games like Gran Turismo 4, Black or Jak 3.

Gamestop doesn't repair them anymore, only selling controllers and some shovelware, and the local shop has a very small selection of PS2 stuff. I don't think I even saw any systems, fat or slim last time I was there. For being the best selling console, you'd think finding a new one would be easier.
my fat ps2 still works perfectly HEH
I always loved how PS2 used little models as save icons, it completely blew my mind when I was a kid
nothing was as good or will be as good ever
Jak and Daxter and MGS2 are some of my earliest favourites that I can recall playing. Not to mention the PS2 had some of the best backwards compatibility of any console.
I have a slim one in the living room. I used to have a fat one but i accidentally let it fall after i pulled a PS2 controller and it doesn't read discs well.
My PS2(the original version, my dad bought it for me when it was all new) still works to this date, only problem is that the memory card slot is slightly loose so you have to stick a piece of paper inside to make the pins connect.
I have a fun fact. Between 2000 and 2008, I had used 5 PS2s. Why did i get so many you wonder? We started out with 2. Then we got robbed, so we got two from warrenty. We then brought another, then we got the origninal two back. I felt like the king of PS2's. Like, we had a PS2 for every room.
