When I was a mere boy me and my chums used to rummage around in asbestos-ridden demolished buildings and light things on fire. Oh well
There aren't any places like these in Iceland save a couple of ruined farms way out in the country.
To judge the weather I always watch the news.
Get out of here grammar nazi, I wrote this and didn't have time to re-read it as I have revision to do.
Well, I have an abandoned house in my backyard (backyard as place where to plant things)...it's called "The house of the wolves" scary shit and stories going all around, nobody even came back from there and stuff like that. When I get a photocamera and the courage, I'll dive in head first.
No, I just like the great outdoors. Also I live in Britain and my name is James
Ok. Its just that its kind of weird when you are hanging out with your friends outside and you see the creepy kid sitting in a tree with his bow and arrows watching you (I'm not saying you are like that).
I wish I could go urban exploring but where I live there is literally nothing. :( There was a cool abandoned hospital but I never got to check it out since it was torn down.
The law in America for a knife is if it's smaller then the palm of your hand it's legal.
That means Shaquille O' Neal could take a fucking butcher knife.
i've explored a fair few things. Mainly storm water drains but a few topsides aswell. It isn't that complicated, just use common sense. It's not like you're playing fallout 3 dude. You don't need a full kit. Just a torch and some fairly hardy clothes. For drains, connies are the best imo. I swear by them. Your feet get soaked in the most grimy shit ever, but they really curve around round tunnels and shit. They do wear down fast though. Also, there are a shit tonne of buildings that have danger signs just to keep people scared from going in.
If I didn't live in a highly populated area and there were places to explore I would definitely follow the tips in your guide. It's very helpful and sensible.
I am going to do some Urbex tommorow with a friend. I'll post a thread tommorow too. It's two abandoned houses. [editline]07:03PM[/editline]
Nothing here in the Netherlands :geno:
Well, these two abandoned houses are here. :D
There is an abandoned apartment complex about 100 metres from here. Couple of months ago some stupid kids went up there, one of them fell down the elevator shaft into the garage. That was about a 15 story fall.
thanks for the FAQ if i only manage to get my mates into it..

Those are great tips, thanks!
We've had a few threads about this recently, and they're all very interesting. Good job on this. :)
We've had a few threads about this recently, and they're all very interesting. Good job on this. :)
I think we should get an Urbex subforum/section, theres tons of FP'er's who do it.
I think we should get an Urbex subforum/section, theres tons of FP'er's who do it.
That'd be cool. Right now I just go to random Urbex websites/forums.
If I was gonna do this, I would definitely take a face mask or something, because that shit looks dusty as fuck.
I've never actually worn one while doing Urbex, I haven't even seen any more experienced explorers wear one.
The amount of shit I've seen falling and hit other Urban explorers made me think differently. I mean urbex isn't just buildings, hell a few people went urbexing in a sinkhole at a reservoir. Some places are dangerous and not just by what you can't see. I make sure to have spare climbing gear a handheld radio and medical supplies incase shit goes bad.
I would like an Urbex section. Maybe put it down at the bottom in the Life Styles & Hobbies section
Actually, taking some kind of tool (ie a crowbar) with you might not be that bad of an idea, especially if you do run into a druggie or animal of some kind. But usually not.
I would like an Urbex section. Maybe put it down at the bottom in the Life Styles & Hobbies section
That would be a good idea, although I wish Lifestyles and hobbies would be moved to the top.
Keep using GD for now, if Hezzy deems it needs it's own section it'll get one.
Urbex sounds cool, but with all this talk about asbestos and whatnot, I'm a little deterred from trying it.
Urbex sounds cool, but with all this talk about asbestos and whatnot, I'm a little deterred from trying it.
I wouldn't be too worried about asbestos as long as you wear a P2 rated mask, they are cheap as dirt.
If they're so cheap then are you sure they'll completely shield you from asbestos?
Urbex sounds cool, but with all this talk about asbestos and whatnot, I'm a little deterred from trying it.
Don't worry about it too much. Get a mask and you'll be fine. The place I worked one summer doing some manual labour (lots of carrying of heavy boxes up and down lots of flights of stairs, shit like that) had a stairwell where the walls were covered with little stickers with a big "A" marked on them. On one venture past I peered at them in more detail to find they were asbestos warnings. I wouldn't like to think what would have happened if I had stumbled carrying my heavy load and cracked a hole in the drywall.
If they're so cheap then are you sure they'll completely shield you from asbestos?
They are tested and regulated by the government or whatever, the P2 rating means it can protect you from asbestos.
Alright, sure. I just may give this a try. I've always like to explores my surroundings since I was a kid.
