Evil Dead 2 The Thing 28 Days Later Alien Drag Me To Hell Let the Right One In
John Carpenter's The Thing.
Well Drag Me to Hell scared the shit out of me.. IDK why but it did.
Insidious and Sinister are two of the better modern ones. Exorcist is okay, it really hasn't aged that well. The thing and the fly are both sci-fi horror and are very good. The Shining miniseries is pretty awesome actually. I'd recommend staying away from Kubrick's Shining, though. I understand it's a film masterpiece or something but for non-film students it's boring, too long, not scary, and only redeems itself with Jack Nicholson. [editline]13th July 2013[/editline] Oh I was also chatting with the head librarian of my local library (big stuff right?) and he recommended Salem's Lot. Never seen it myself, but he's got pretty good taste. Give that one a try.
Sinister was one of my favorites of all time... I love the whole Bagul deal and all the deaths and how inventive they were.

The miniseries was subpar to me [editline]14th July 2013[/editline] Although the movie is a bit slow and disorienting. They're not negatives to me (just opposite) but if they seem like negatives to you, you can skip it. Still, the movie's worth a watch at least once. You did like The Exorcist so there's that.
Rosemary's Baby is my favourite. The idea that all of your neighbours are doing some freaky devil cult shit against you is really creepy.

Rosemary's Baby is awesome because it has that perfect blend of funny and creepy.
Alien for sure. The original Friday the 13th is also really good, and I loved Cabin in the Woods.
Does Silence of the Lambs and American Psycho count, even though they are more psychological thrillers than horror?
I really wish there was a horror movie-themed fighting game. Get someone like Netherrealm to make it, pack the roster with characters like Freddy, Jason, the Predator, Ashley Williams, Pennywise, Chucky, Audrey II, a Xenomorph, Michael Meyers, Pinhead, the Leprechaun... and of course, all the old Universal monsters (Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Gillman, Dr. Griffin, etc.) Getting the rights would be a nightmare, but it'd be amazing. I want to see Ash fight a Predator. Maybe put a Killer Tomato in there as a secret character, ala Reptile.
Does Silence of the Lambs and American Psycho count, even though they are more psychological thrillers than horror?
Maybe Silence of the Lambs, but American Psycho is much less of a horror film as there's only one real horror scene in it. [sp]yuppie scum[/sp]
Dawn of the Dead Even the remake was pretty good.
I almost liked the remake more.
Halloween, obviously forgetting that resurrection ever happened, i did like rob zombie's remake but i haven't seen the sequel to it, otherwise this is probably the most solid horror series out there, even 3 isn't complete shit, it just kinda has nothing to do with the series Psycho NOES not a huge Jason fan but I did enjoy the first few Friday the 13th Hellraiser 1 + 2, no further movies should be viewed does Cabin in the Woods count? oh and Romero's Dead trilogy (night, dawn & day) along with the dawn remake, i don't consider the other films to exist, except for the revenge of the living dead films, those are quite good, well a few of them are, two of them are quite stupid, the one with the kid and the goo zombie that only says BRAINS and then the one with the girlfriend and the military base that shit was just lame and of course, texas chainsaw massacre
alien and the thing are the only horror movies to actually scare me, with alien being one of my favorite movies of any genre
Watched Grave Encounters. I didn't bother watching 1 I went straight to 2 and it was amazing. I wasn't even lost...
You guys really need to give this movie a chance, it's john carpenter for fuck sakes
You guys really need to give this movie a chance, it's john carpenter for fuck sakes
it was kinda dumb though the son of satan is a swirling green liquid trapped in a container that can only be opened from the inside and he possesses people by squirting said green liquid into their mouths? the not-dream sequences were cool though
its john carpenter what did you expect :v:
I expected a film as good as The Thing
The Thing is still far and above my favorite horror movie. In The Mouth of Madness could have been amazing but made some poor choices near the end (showing too much of the MIND DESTROYING LOVECRAFTIAN MONSTERS kills some of the terror) but it's still pretty good Prince of Darkness is hilarious. Liquid Satan, I don't even [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] Jacob's Ladder may not be straight up horror but it's pretty fucking amazing and the progenitor of pretty much everything all the creepy shit in more modern horror like Silent Hill
Watched Grave Encounters. I didn't bother watching 1 I went straight to 2 and it was amazing. I wasn't even lost...
Grave Encounters 1 was a beautiful riff fest with me and my friends. Favorite moment was the bathtub full of blood.
Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake)
Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake)
I think that's underrated. It's a shame so much of the violence was cut out though, I saw a making of with some really good squib effects which went mostly unused. Speaking of zombie films, The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue (Let Sleeping Corpses Lie). Underrated film from 1974. It also has one of my favourite film posters: I think it's all on youtube somewhere. The Grapes of Death is very good too. It reminded me heavily of Resident Evil 4. And finally 'Tetsuo the Iron Man' is a damn good surreal horror.
I know this probably isn't the place to ask but is grave encounters 2 any good? (I bet it isn't but who knows)
28 days later is probably my favourite. Also want to mention martyrs for being the most horrific, only horror movie that made me feel bad. Most the movies mentioned here are fun/thrilling/gory horror, martyrs isn't fun or thrilling but genuinly dreadful.
There will always be a spot in my heart for the Ring. (Yep, the American remake. It's better than the original.) Plus the Grudge 1 & 2. The original Shutter and Red Shoes were really great. I thought Sinister was pretty good except for the end. And for stuff that's not about ghosts, I really liked Strangers. The Divide was also amazingly... intense.
I just watched Werner Herzog's remake of Nosferatu, and as great as the original is I think this is better in literally every single way. Its one of the best horror films I've ever seen. It's got the expressionist imagery of the original and a really tense and creepy atmosphere, there's always a fear that somethings going to happen, kinda similar to Alien/The Thing I guess if you want a popular comparison. I mean it's not similar as a film but in terms of tension all 3 play off it heavily and don't go so much for reward but build up. Its a total 5 star film and a masterpiece.
