I don't generally like horror but the Ring films were excellent for me. Dead man starring Johnny Depp was horrible, not sure if that counts.
^the ring films are garbage, both the originals and the american remakes.

i'm pretty sure not a single one of those films classify as horror
unless you're making some joke about the quality of them.
IDK about you but they're pretty horrifying to watch
if we're going that route then I nominate The Purge as most horrifying film ever made because it is such a n insulting and offensively stupid and horrendous travesty that watching it is legitimate torture. its probably the worst movie ive ever seen.

it kind of reminds me of the Guy Ritchie film Revolver, where he tried to be smart and artsy but failed utterly. Revolver to me is one of the biggest straight up failures made. it's so ridiculously convoluted and retarded, full of pseudo intellectual plot twists and "themes" which aren't really there that it just insults the viewer. not to mention the horrendous use of colour and weird camera angles.
Worse films have been made, with worse acting, worse scripts and worse direction and production values, but I just inexplicably hated those films. Well I know why I hated them -the reasons stated above and more- it's just they really were abysmal. Troll 2 and The Room exist but they're funny-bad. they're so bad you can just laugh at them and be like "hah, at least they tried" or something. These films are just utter failures and messes. The attempts at intelligence and originality and such make it much worse because it's an assault on the senses.

People call directors like Terrence Malick pretentious. Fuck that. Guy Ritchie and whoever made The Purge are pretentious as it gets. Malick is at least able to do what he says he can do (and he is incredibly talented, unlike either of these 2 filmmakers)
Malick is humble. These dudes are pretentious as all hell.
