Please tell me that they made the Plasma Rifle useful in this game. I always found in the original and two that it was heavily outclassed by the BFG because the BFG always took 20 ammo and would obliterate anything, thereby making the Plasma Rifle pointless to use after you found the BFG.
BFG is now a panic button ala room nuke while the plasma rifle is its own weapon so i doubt they share the same ammo.
I'm still really annoyed that the chainsaw grinds the gameplay to a halt everytime you kill an enemy as it plays a predefined animation for the kill.
You do realize by the way that sorta also happened in the original too, right? The chainsaw in the originals basically made you sit and wait for the enemy to be killed for a couple seconds.

However, if they're beefing up the shotgun, they might beef up the plasma rifle too, and I remember people saying it seemed bigger in the alpha. Since the BFG is basically a 'nuke the room' panic button all of its own independent from plasma ammo hopefully, that means the Plasma Rifle should at least have some relevance if the Heavy Assault Rifle doesn't outclass it.

They added an Assault Rifle? This is bullshit. Minigun should be the only automatic kinetic weapon in fucking DOOM.

Just completely unhyped and uninterested in this game. it feels like they are just pandering to some demographic that doesn't actually like going back and playing the vanilla doom games because they are fun, simple, and well designed games. The fact that theres this shitty dubsteppy metal to the whole thing just adds to the meh factor. Doom to me was like 80s and 90s heavy metal: The FPS. All the artwork, music, and monster designs were straight from metalheads and you can tell, it was a game marketed and made by metal-head turbonerds. And if you didn't identify with that, then there is a chance you probably didn't like Doom as much.
I actually only started to show interest in Doom 4 after I actually played Doom 1 and not just assuming what it was like from rip and tear memes.
Me too. I only played the original doom like 6 months ago and now I'm playing through the second so it's still fresh in my mind.
You do realize by the way that sorta also happened in the original too, right? The chainsaw in the originals basically made you sit and wait for the enemy to be killed for a couple seconds.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you could just back out of it if it was too dangerous. It wasn't a seconds long scripted animation.
like a couple other posters just mentioned, looks like they still don't understand that killmoves all the time is not good game design. it kills pacing (we've seen this in actual footage) and you better believe the ooh-aah factor is gonna fade after the first couple hours of it. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] i mean im glad there's some demographic that this appeals to, but it's clearly not the hardcore doom fanbase or the guys who were really really into doom 3.
The kill moves shouldn't offer things like extra ammo/health pickups or else you'll feel like you're supposed to be doing it all the time. There should be no incentive to do it other then getting to see it. Make it like a collectible.
I wonder if we get the Mute Protagonist or someone with spunk like the new Blazkowicz in Wolfenstein [editline]5th February 2016[/editline] or maybe spunk is not the right word but attitude ( which is the best way to describe him )
Wait what? They added an Assault Rifle? This is bullshit. Minigun should be the only automatic kinetic weapon in fucking DOOM.
Pistol, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Heavy Assault Rifle, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG 9000, Glory Kills, Chainsaw, and I think a Fusion Cannon or something like that which was basically a heavy-powered railgun, I can't quite remember. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] Keep in mind these weapons with their mods also seem to go into other categories. Like adding a burst-fire to your Shotgun or a grenade launcher instead.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you could just back out of it if it was too dangerous. It wasn't a seconds long scripted animation.
True, but unless you chainsawed all the way through it was basically useless to use it.
Trailer looks awesome, I don't really care about them deviating from the original too much so long as it's fun.
Doom 3 deviated and everyone shit on it Doom 4's going to try to live up to Doom 1/2 and everyones going to shit on it I really don't know what will make anyone happy anymore If I was a creative, I'd give up because nothing is ever good enough.
Yeah its odd seeing praise from old doom communities like doomworld and complaints from other places when i was expecting the opposite

I played the fuck out of Doom 1 and this game looks great. Lay off of it for not being Doom 1/2, it isn't supposed to be. It's supposed to be Doom 4.
I wouldn't be as harsh to this game if every trailer didn't show off seconds long kill animations all the time. Kinda makes me worried.
I really like the design. Everything's so saturated. Everything looks rather similar in design to the original Doom games, it's just super exaggerated to almost comic book proportions. I like the Pinky, and the Lost Soul too. Baron also looks great.
Yeah, the colors and proportions are exaggerated just enough to look distinctive and interesting but not so much it becomes a cartoon. I dig that slightly chunky action-figure style look.
It worries me that the frame rate still fluctuates in the trailer. If it tanks on consoles, it will most likely do the same on last generation video cards.
It worries me that the frame rate still fluctuates in the trailer. If it tanks on consoles, it will most likely do the same on last generation video cards.
Seemed dangerously like the framerate capped itself at 30 during the cinematic kills for some reason.
I feel like people tend to misunderstand what Doom was about, the design of the original one was heavily inspired by the 90's culture, it has heavy metal, D&D and Aliens mixed together, and it's gameplay wasn't RIP AND TEAR HUGE GUTS like people think, especially if you play with a keyboard only, it was mostly about selecting your targets and gadgets to survive encounters. DOOM tries to mix elements from the original while also adopting elements from nowadays games, and IMO, it looks like it's doing a good job at that, since it's still fast, has a lot of mobility, maintains the attacks of the enemies with some new twists, and mix risk and reward with what to me initially seemed a tacked on mechanic that is the glory skill system, which stops you for a second (if I understood those "hands-on" articles right, it looks like they are faster than the trailers show) but offers you more supplies. And it also gets the original aesthetic and updates it to modern standards, it looks more complex and bulky, but it's because it's what Sci-fi nowadays looks like, just like the original marine looked like the ones from Aliens it takes inspiration from what's trending nowadays. But really, all we have are a bunch of trailers and an early version of the multiplayer to judge right now, so we can't really judge how everything ties in until we actually have it released to the public, but to anyone who says it doesn't look like Doom, seriously, play it game using Chocolate Doom and try inserting yourself in the context of the original game. The new one is more similar than it looks like at first glance.
Well Conan's doing some gameplay of the singleplayer campaign tonight, so we'll get to see just a little bit more of what the game's actually like.
Seemed dangerously like the framerate capped itself at 30 during the cinematic kills for some reason.
It appears to be even lower than 30 in the gameplay segment with heavy red fog.
I wish they would at least give us doomguy's face on the HUD. it doesn't even have to be big
BFG is now a panic button ala room nuke while the plasma rifle is its own weapon so i doubt they share the same ammo.
That's what the BFG always was. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline]
I wish they would at least give us doomguy's face on the HUD. it doesn't even have to be big
It would just look goofy with 3D graphics. You might as well play the original if you want that. Besides, there's probably going to be a Doom 4-style mod for Doom 2 not long after release.
That's what the BFG always was.
it only nuked/heavily damaged whatever you were looking towards
it only nuked/heavily damaged whatever you were looking towards
I don't even know how to begin to describe how weird the original BFG worked. Apparently it calculated its damage off of where you fired from concurrent with your position when it goes off and sprays hitscan tracers everywhere accordingly or something like that?
I don't even know how to begin to describe how weird the original BFG worked. Apparently it calculated its damage off of where you fired from concurrent with your position when it goes off and sprays hitscan tracers everywhere accordingly or something like that?
It fires a projectile that does some damage iirc, and when it hits something the game uses a shitload of hitscans to damage everything visible on your screen. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline]
Would probably break the immersion imo DoomGuy's appearance in this game now represents every player rather than someone who happens to look like DoomGuy. It's like Master Chief showing his face in a Halo game. and on a anecdote, I'll be very surprised if DoomGuy removes the helmet to reveal that you were playing a chick all along (like Samus).
Well, the cover at shows a bit of doomguy's face if you look at the visor, so it could pull of a Metroid Prime (face reflection visible with explosions) if they wanted, it probably won't however.
