Was that a Revenant's howl at 0:39? Looks pretty neato.
Who plays Doom for the Multiplayer?
A massive bit of the community still does, albeit not as much as it used to be.
ID is known for excellent tech but less than stellar gameplay though.
i wouldnt really say that, gameplay wise all of the doom games were considered pretty excellent. I mean doom 3's biggest flaw was its reliance on 'spooky!!!'
Hey it's not completely yellow anymore!
Maybe they listened.
that and every single enemy having 3 second warmup spawn anims giving you enough time to walk up to them and gun them down
i mean i wont lie, it was fucking -badass- honestly i prefer doom 3's aesthetic to what the new doom has got going on. it's sacrificing way too much in the detail department to look cartoony, and some of the enemies look good but some are just messy to look at. if we could get doom 3 with more traditionally influenced gameplay, i think i'd be far more interested in the game.
I think the trailer had too many scripted executions and not enough weapon switching between kills.
I think they should've stuck with really interesting dynamic gore or something for the overkill feel. Blowing limbs and appendages off enemies, melting holes in demons with the plasma rifle, or just detonating them alltogether into a slurry of meat that splatters all over the surrounding walls with the BFG would be way more interesting to see than playing yet another demigod-strength character that can kill enemies in one move by just running up to every one of them and mashing the melee button [editline]5th February 2016[/editline] Oh and DYNAMIC ORGANS Imagine blowing a hole in a fat zombie to watch his entrails pour out and dangle out the wound. That's the kind of gore modern-day DOOM should have, in my opinion [editline]5th February 2016[/editline] Also that gets me thinking, it really bothered me how you get your legs torn off but it's just a clean cut.. The human body would never rip like that..
In the E3 demo they showed that scene where you rip off an arm and use the hand at a scanner, and you literally just pop the arm out of its socket by just pulling a bit hard on it. Also most of the glory kills involving dismemberment just have doomguy punch someone and the concerned body part just completely disappears, no gibs or remains involved. It just pops out of existence.
Doom 3 was quite a few years ago, and even its reception was mixed.
basically, combat scenarios were interesting puzzles

Wasn't HUGE GUTS RIP AND TEAR ridiculed when it came out because it was so off?
It's quite weird really. The Doom comic gained cult status for being so awful, the RIP AND TEAR stuff was just so bad it's funny. Then people rejected Doom 3 for being too dark and Brutal Doom got popular, so now there are people who think Doom is all about RIP AND TEAR instead of it just being a line from an awful comic.
The execution animations look a bit unnecessary, I get it's supposed to look cool and show off the gore in the game but it feels like it stops the fast pace of the gameplay. They should be done quicker, or at least there should be a way to cancel them if wanted.
People have been saying this since E3. It does seem like they have been sped up since then, however the problem remains. Perhaps an option to completely disable glory kills would be nice? Or even better, [sp] and more in the spirit of Doom and id Software [/sp], they could just just release some real mod tools. Then people will stop complaining about it because people will mod it however they like.

[t]http://i.playground.ru/i/02/37/31/00/blog/content/qibbtqw6.jpg[/t] how does this look cartoony? [t]http://i.imgur.com/24wBwNd.jpg[/t] people complained about the game not being as colorful as doom, so they added some (as seen in the trailer). To each his own I guess if you would prefer another doom 3 but you can't be really thinking the game lacks details or looks "cartoony" because thats what the original design of the doom enemies was. Cacodemon was a cute floating red ball with green eyes and blue blood, they did their best to make it look fit in, a lot of enemies actually look like a mix of all doom games and a bit of new on top and it looks great in my opinion at least.

I'll probably pick it up, need a good FPS with single player

Doom 1 and 2 didn't have any (although that might be due to the technology) and 3 didn't either (even though they could have). It wasn't until Brutal Doom that gore ever really was a part of Doom. And honestly I'm fine with that. This obsession with gore in video games some people have is just absolutely fucking ridiculous. (Side note: I don't hate Brutal Doom, nor do I hate gore, I just hate how people seem to love it)
what's wrong with gore
Nothing, I just hate how people obsess over it sometimes. Like holy shit, it's a bunch of meat chunks. Who the fuck gives a shit, give me some actual fucking gameplay. [editline]5th February 2016[/editline]
The mancubus death sprite is pretty gory, as is blowing enemies with explosives.
Like I keep saying, I don't hate gore. I'm fine with it. I simply dislike the fact that people seem to focus on it for no fucking reason.

Every explosive death in doom literally has them ripping apart into bits with unique animations thats way more violent than most newer games that have actual gore systems where people just explode into generic chunks.

They just sort of melt into a pile of stuff. Compared to the new Doom or Brutal Doom it really isn't that bad.

Those don't look like the original deaths
Have you even played the originals? They just sort of melt into a pile of stuff. Compared to the new Doom, the originals are like fucking candyland.

I'm not sure how bloody ribcages, popped out eyeballs, and entrails aren't considered gore
Not to mention switch walls filled with the corpses and meat of people, tortured corpses, impaled zombiemen that twitch, blood matter on the walls and so forth. Doom was one of the games that created a media panic not only for satanic imagery, but also gore for a reason. I mean shit, the Icon of Sin is a gigantic head with metal tubes jammed into the sides of its jaws, while its head is torn open to expose its brain matter for you to pile rockets into.

Besides, in game you never really see it anyways, since it happens so fast and you're usually focused on other shit.
Okay I will admit the original Doom's animations are pretty gory but my point about the new Doom is more gory then the older ones still stands.
It's a weird thing because it's more brutal and explicit. You're crushing heads, ripping off jaws, blowing them up into meat chunks across the floor. But it's not lavishly detailed in a way that the old game was, or even as outright nasty as Mortal Kombat X.
Ok yeah doom 4 is gorier than doom 1 and 2. What's wrong with that? Doom 3 had gore, but it was limited by their tech at the time. If you remake those doom 1 and 2 animations up to doom 4 standards the modern fidelity would make them literally fit right in with doom 4's kills, except you aren't ripping them yourself which i guess makes it a little less brutal? Even so though, doom had a chainsaw inspired by Evil Dead which was, a super gory film series
