I can punch with my foot.
I'm sitting in a class, doing what I'm supposed to do on my HP Mini. Mac guy: "Hey, is that screen in HD?" Me: "No..? It's a Netbook.. What resolution have you got?" Mac guy: "About 70." Me: "You have no idea what you're talking about." *No response*.
mac operating systems feel like what would be a single application on windows
too bad mac is unix
Worst unix OS ever.
Macs work good as a work-based computer, used for documents and what not. What I hate, is how the commercials are bogus, and it spawns stupidity into the idiots willing to believe it as the word of god. Basically, if the fanboys didn't take it so seriously, and make such a big deal, I wouldn't care so much. Sadly, that is not the case.
It's funny how all Mac fanboys (I have a friend who thinks that no piece of technology is more powerful than an Xbox but Macs come close ) use the virus thing as an argument. Because I actually download very risky files (Mods for games, or things I think are free, indy games themselves) and I have never gotten a virus that my firewall didn't detect. So to assume that no virus exists for the Mac and that Windows have zero protection... It makes me want to punch that kind of person in the face.
Funny part is that alot of Mac users actually believe that there's no such things as viruses that will infect their pristine little shiny white box, and that's the ONLY real reason they use them.. I recall a story of a guy with such a friend, so he wrote a quick virus and infected the dude's Mac with it. The victim went out and bought a PC a week later. :V
Macintosh is currently losing market share and market control. If you haven't noticed the increase in their ads, they're trying to get back a falling and plummeting market. They should have stuck with what they were good with. iPods. Also, most "young people" with computer experience/tech savvy, will know not to get a mac mainly to save money.
Uh, no? Not too long ago they published numbers of increased sales.
Actually the huge animation studios use these computers made by a company called silicon graphics or otherwise known as SGI. Pretty much it is a bunch of computers linked together and then one person for example can use all their rendering power at once. So it doesn't take ages to render their animations. Otherwise animation movies would take many years to finish! (I tried to dumb it down a bit so they would understand)
I don't know about that, but I know that Pixar's render farm runs Linux. No idea what the hardware is though. [editline]12:38AM[/editline]

Us Linux users wouldn't ally ourselves with Windows users for any reason. :argh:
A picture equals 1,000 words, so I'll just leave this here:
Fixed that for you.
Yeah I know what you are going trough. Ever since the iPod and the iPhone people keep buying their shit at an increasing rate. Half of my class now has a MacBook. Being a software developer I must admit I am strongly in favour for Windows. Most of my development software runs like shit or won't run at all on OSX. So yeah half of my class owns a MacBook, I grew tired of their constantly nagging and I decided to take the test. I downloaded a few Mac OSX images from the net and installed them on my portable computer and played a little bit with the operating system. I quickly came to the conclusion that half of their propaganda really is a big pile bullshit. When comparing to Windows XP, I can conclude that the newer Mac OSX wins the fight. Windows Xp simply is horrible, it's made in 2001 for a reason. When comparing it against Vista I could see some benifits and some advantages. When comparing it against the new Windows 7, Mac OSX simply lost. It couldn't keep up at all. The numerous advantages of Windows 7 pushed the balance to 7. In the end I just came out hating the users who use Mac OSX instead of the operating system. The operating system is just fine, but it is not the solution to everything like those people claim. I often found myself staring at the output of the terminal because I couldn't do some tasks I wanted to do. When given three users (Mac OSX/Windows/Linux) the task of placing an 8 GB file on a disk that only supports 2 Gb files I would predict the following result: Windows user: Would download a program that would split the file Linux user: Would look up the man pages for split Mac OSX user: Would stare at screen, attempt to copy it again. Would curse. Break into tears why 'his Mac won't do that'. I do often find myself being on the logic end of a discussion with Mac users and them being on the emotional feminine side. I am working on a theory that half of them are insecure pussies but that is something for a topic in the future. (I need to gather some more evidence first) PS: there are smart Mac OSX users out there, that know why they like Mac OSX. But most of them just freeze braindead when you go into details. Most of the propaganda you hear is recycled bullshit that happend to Windows '98 machines and isn't up-to-date anymore.
I'm going to stop arguing now, because the majority of fp users are just too thick when it comes to this. Another $500 dollars really? The last gen powermacs were cheaper than comparable Dells, the Macbook air is a better value than the voodoo envy/thinkpad x300/dell adamo, don't even get me started on the 27' iMac.
when i bought my laptop i looked at the powerbook. my laptop has equivalent specs and works out at about £350 cheaper. £1150 vs £800
Their software isn't very cheap... and it's only compatible with MacOSX users.
when i bought my laptop i looked at the powerbook. my laptop has equivalent specs and works out at about £350 cheaper. £1150 vs £800
The powerbook is how old? I never said all of their stuff was price competitive, like the mac mini is a ripoff.
So how come people still call Windows based machines PCs but not Macs? I mean it's extremely ignorant to say that a Mac isn't a Personal Computer.
It's probably because Mac are so "Special" they aren't really a PC but rather a computerized plague.
Glad I don't have to deal with Apple Fanbois.

I was referring to the FAT32 limit of 4GB. The standard partitioning scheme used on most sold hard drives to be compatible out of the box with Linux/Mac OSX and Windows. So the problem isn't Windows related.

What I'm saying is, if you stay within the Mac ecosystem you rarely get issues like that.
Yeah, but Macs have only ever supported that filesystem in the interests of compatibility. The real problem lies with the (observed) result of the users. That is the main concern/point of discussion. Arguing about conditions that could have prevented this technical issue carries no point whatsoever as the issue happened. But if you like me to compare HFS+, EXT3 and NTFS (typical used for the 'big three') and defend the one I prefer and wish to be the market standard then please say so.
There are drivers for osx that allow you to read/write windows formats. A small inconvenience before you get the drivers, but the Mac file format fragments less than windows formats so I'd still rather have that format.
The powerbook is how old? I never said all of their stuff was price competitive, like the mac mini is a ripoff.
sorry, macbook pro. whatever their high performance laptop is.
Uh... Lesson 1 of beating a Mac Fanboy... Destroy em' They say the mac has a better everything? Show em' those nice little ZT Systems that come with quad 3.0ghz processors and show that you could save almost a thousand bucks by going that way and just keep upgrading parts from there. If that doesn't work show em' the old fashioned spec sheet on Newegg... Usually will shut em' up in a fucking minute. Edit: Excuse me, I missed a lot of words there XD Any who... Carry on.
Christ, this is exactly the reason I'm not a fanboy of either side. If you want to use an Apple, fine, but don't act all smug and shit. And every fucking fanboy and commercial for Macs uses the same excuse every time "MACS DUN GET VIRUZES DURP" Because obviously, Macs "just work", so no one can make a virus on a mac. :downs:

But I am fearing the last one would cause a lot of overhead.
Because obviously, Macs "just work"
From my experience this is now a valid and strong argument for Windows 7 too.
Is now a valid argument for Ubuntu too.
Eh some people argue that since Adobe originated on the Macintosh system, that using Macs for video editing, photo editing etc. Plus you've got to look cool if you are a hipster video maker or photographer.
CS4 works just fine on my laptop, which is my argument with the hardcore mac fanboys. Seriously, I don't see why people have to be dicks about what brand of computer they use. I don't go around telling people how Acer computers never get viruses. For some reason the school bought a lab full of Dells and two iMacs. Whenever someone shows up late they get stuck with the iMac. :v:
I'd have read it if you didn't write them up to have an IQ of 3. and you an IQ of 300000 using all your technical terms and lingo. where as they were deemed to speak like monkeys. nobody talks like 'hay guiz wats goin on lulz" and you certainly dont have the right to put yourself higher than them so just use proper english for both and maybe il read it next time.
hay guiz wats goin on lulz did u her bout teh new memez it r so funi [editline]06:12PM[/editline]
You should see my photography class. I have a mac. I enjoy using a mac. I dislike crazy Mac Fanboys. Why? Because half of them are actually posers trying to look cool. All my friends that use Macs, are not talking about how PCs are dumb every 5 seconds. If the subject comes up, they say "I use a mac, I'm rather fond of it, You might not be however, and I respect your opinion". On another note, My friend and I had a debate which was cheaper, an i7 iMac, or a PC that we built ourselves. We found that just the larger 1440p screen (Wasn't apple branded) was worth 1100$, one half of what that mac is worth. After the grand total, with all features of the Mac vs PC, we found the PC more expensive. Just saying.
I prefer XFS
Speaking of XFS, I really wanted to put that on my MythTV box, but Fedora was being a jerk and forced me to use ext4. :( From what I understand, XFS is great with really large files, which is primarily what a MythTV box does. I couldn't get Mythbuntu to work, and I couldn't get Arch to work for some reason either. (Didn't like my hard drive I guess?) So maybe I'll try out Mythdora or something.
Goddamn Apples.
