OP, why do you have 2 identical lamps beside eachother?
The paradox keeps the demon of the painting at bay.
The necron looks like it's coming out of some sort of a portal.
He foreshadowed coming of the necrons to our world :gonk:

RETURN THE SLAAAAAB
Thats a neat painting, don't think I could sleep in a room with it though.
Shogoll beat me to it. 1968 > 1998. This did not influence the design of the Necron, the guy was probably batshit crazy in the worst way, the "I like that, Im going to redo it and call it mine" kind of crazy.
Except that the book with the picture on doesn't see a release until 2002.

that ALWAYS scared me as a kid.
Good job OP, you've been reading it upside down the entire time. Obviously he painted it in 8961.
:ms:

I was looking at it as in, the guy knew thats when Necrons started, therefore, inquired that date.
Regardless, this mystery is retarded.
So was the artist.
Maybe David Marrill was an alias, and he secretly worked on Warhammer 40K under his real name? (Or vice-versa)
Warhammer 40,000 was created by Rick Priestley and Andy Chambers in 1987.
I also believe the painting of the sourcebook was made as some kind of concept painting before the necrons were even thought of as an army.

Maybe the dude who painted it was the secret third member!

Any ideas as to what it is? He has painted some really weird paintings in the past, the one he gave my mum that she refuses to put up is a bunch of elephants and a few of them are killing their young.
whoa she made a left handed necron. :iia:
That 1968 could be the year he was born.
It's beautiful. Jesus christ. Keep them close, they might be worth LOTS if you get an art reviewer in from a local gallery.
The Monkey-Potato faced Alien's adventure with a laser sword?
Depending on the thickness of the frame itself, is it possible there's two canvases in there and you're looking at the back of a different painting?
Based on what I've seen, I am absolutely certain that the OP's painting is not a knock off of the Necrons. First, whether it be 1968 or 1988, the necrons we not invented then. Even if they were, that picture of them was from 2002.
I honestly think that this thing is original and genuine, and is coincidence. It looks very similar to the works of Munch and Van Gough. If the man never had a computer or internet, then its perfectly possible he could have made this without knowing about 40K, as fate can work like that. I myself know quite a bit of 40K, but I've never heard of the necrons.
For reals though OP, please post the elephant painting

then apparently you don't know 40k all that well
I know a lot about Warhammer 40k but what are space marines?

And orks, what the fuck are those?
Forgot to mention, it was painted 43 years ago.
1968? He was definitely on acid when he painted these.
Methinks OP painted this himself. It's nice, I like the background. But I'm not buying the 'OMG WAS PAINTED ALMOST FIFTY YEARS AGO HOLY SHIT~' bit. Especially since the proportions are almost exactly the same as the most well known necron picture out there.

Don't forget the theory that it was a re-used canvas.
Or that the guy just wrote that on the back quickly to make it seem old and valuable? Seriously, get the paint examined. They can see what the paint's made with and trace when certain things were first put in paints to get a ballpark on the age. I saw it when they were trying to find out if a painting was da Vinci's or not on the History Channel.
OP put it up on a auction. Or reveal it at a convention for WH40K.
He's dead.
well shit u dropped the ball there

Yep. Like the Genestealers, they were literally a one-off "horror" adventure/battle before they were anything else.
And now a series of unfortunate and/or strange events will occur and the OP will learn a valuable lesson or a dark secret.
