I was looking at it as in, the guy knew thats when Necrons started, therefore, inquired that date. Regardless, this mystery is retarded. So was the artist.
Umad bro.
This is why I vow never to buy a creepy painting because I just KNOW it'll make me paranoid and scare me shitless
Did some digging for a "David Merril" http://www.roosterart.com/roosterart_portfolio.html http://www.artofthewild.net/ Appeared to be more interested in painting animal landscapes rather than Necrons.
And now a series of unfortunate and/or strange events will occur and the OP will learn a valuable lesson or a dark secret.
There will also be invisible cameras following the OP which will in turn make a movie.

That David Merril's from Utah, OP's from the UK; you didn't even get the surname right...
It held up pretty good for 43 years. I'd say it's a pretty new painting.
it's a shitty painting of a necron. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] also lol at people who think this painting looks nice/is worth anything
Freemasons everyone should get dan browns new book "the necron code"
This thread is just as dead as the user is going to be. :downsrim:

Your mam's friend wrote 1968 on the back just to troll you.
Your mam's friend wrote 1968 on the back just to troll you.
What an original theory there Sir!
Try getting an art reviewer to see if he recognizes the artist/art style. Maybe then you can figure out who it is.
Warhammer 40,000 was created by Rick Priestley and Andy Chambers in 1987. I also believe the painting of the sourcebook was made as some kind of concept painting before the necrons were even thought of as an army.
That can't be right because the original Necron Warriors looked different. Very similar, but this look much less skeletal than both that painting and the OPs. [editline]24th June 2011[/editline] The painting, if based off that reference, is definitely no older than 2002.
Based on what I've seen, I am absolutely certain that the OP's painting is not a knock off of the Necrons. First, whether it be 1968 or 1988, the necrons we not invented then. Even if they were, that picture of them was from 2002. I honestly think that this thing is original and genuine, and is coincidence. It looks very similar to the works of Munch and Van Gough. If the man never had a computer or internet, then its perfectly possible he could have made this without knowing about 40K, as fate can work like that. I myself know quite a bit of 40K, but I've never heard of the necrons.
have you actually compared the two? they're too similar for it to be coincidence.

Hold on to it, might be worth something.
Looks like something out of Warhammer 40,000.
Painter was using an old canvas/trolling. I'd put my name and year on the painting itself, not the back of canvas.
Looks like something out of Warhammer 40,000.
Glad to know you're using those reading skills!
Oh boy, this is creepy. Somehow creating Necrons or whatever before they existed? If she gives you a microwave with the ability to send D-mail, watch out.
It's already been said but I really like that painting, it looks really cool. I'd even offer to buy it off of you if I had money. Also Necrons, can't help it, I have clock fever.
Looks like a tribesmen from a different planet. A planet that just happens to carry a bunch of naturally grown lazer guns.

Can you post the Elephant one?
Can you post the Elephant one?
Hes dead.
For some reason, that painting looks expensive.
wow... that thing is really creepy, you have that thing up in your room? i think id find a museum that would take it, really creepy man could this be a message from the future, or maybe this is where the creator of WH got the idea from idk
Nice painting, OP Except it's scary.
He might have given it to you because he thought you might be able to recognize the resemblance.
