I would definitely do a double check of this... as soon as I saw this, this came to mind. If this is in ANY way related, definitely worth something.
That makes no sense. At most it would be a poor copy of it. To be completely honest here the painting in the OP looks nothing special at all.
That makes no sense. At most it would be a poor copy of it. So; a picture, (supposedly) painted before 40k and the Necrons even existed has been handed down to 'David' through a man who lived alone with no relatives, and as of yet has no attachment to the 40k universe. A man with no 'access' to any kind of 40k media? A man unaware of the franchise? A man who conveniently stayed inside his home for extended periods, just to paint? He specifically 'requested' that you have the painting; destiny? No... What has most likey happened here is that, a man in solitude (of sorts), decided that he would paint a picture of a Necron (fan art); sufficiently changing the picture so it didn't look like a complete copy. Perhaps it wasn't an intentional change, it may have just been his style (which could be more determinate if I could see the elephant painting). Perhaps even the date was not an intentional fraud, and that the canvas is indeed much older than the painting. Or the OP has rather ingeniously been leading us up the garden path; a well constructed narrative, a classic parodoxical scenario, complete with mysterious and compelling characters and conspiracies. Marvelous work my friend! You have created a real-world mystery, fit with reader interaction! If this is indeed the truth. There is of course the third option... The artist in question pained a picture ahead of its time, it was seen by the 'official' originator of the Necron race, who decided that it was a good framework to base them on. He either intentionally screwed the artist over, plagerising his work for his own benefit, or merely drew inspiration from it in order to create his own version. The artist was either resenting this, or had no idea. But what of the other possibilities? Are these propositions above, necessarily true? No. By all means; the artist was a time traveller who created a huge temporal paradox by copying the Necron design, traveling back and inventing it for himself. The artist painted the picture of the future and was subsequently chased around the globe by the CIA for interveining in the timeline. The artist is an alien from a distant world. The artist is a magician. The artist could, for all intensive purposes be, a Necron! The painting is alive! The painting is cursed! The artist is cursed! The OP is cursed! The painting isn't actually of a Necron at all, its a painting titled "The Scream 3000"! Believe what you will; you can either dismiss this entire thread as tomfoolery, or accept that it is somehow supernatural and/ or awesome. Either way, I have found this thoughroughly entertaining!

You're also going to have a hard time getting a framework for a Necron out of this silhouette with a faceplate. And I'm also fairly certain that the actual Necron concept art is NOT the first ever concept art created of the race. Most likely scenario: Dude painted a picture of a Necron, basically stealing the design off the concept art. Either he wrote 1968 on the back or used a canvas from 1968. Sent picture to friend/friend's son to troll her/him from beyond the grave.
My mother painted a girl with black hair, and shit, when I was guest sleeping in one the rooms, on monthly visits. I get a chill down by my spine every time I look at it, even see at night time, staring at me. Hold me please. Just the way she painted it. It's the fucking eyes, man.
How is this thread still alive? Either he used an old canvas, or its bullshit :ms:
confirmed troll. Won't reply to us after the first day or progress the story.
confirmed troll. Won't reply to us after the first day or progress the story.
He fucking died.
You seem so immature with all these responses. The man just was a painter who gave a friend a picture. Nothing more. You act like he is so sort of time traveling wizard. I mean. Do you guys even care? So what if he was? He's dead. And even if the picture was a fake, why would you care? You all are just people on a computer miles away from each other, and I'm not about to call a person a troll with something like this.
Actually this looks more like an Eldar Warp spider
This can be resolved quickly. At least the 1968/1988 part. How old was the painter?
Looks like something out of Warhammer 40,000.
H...holy shit, you're right!1!
My mum's friend gave out four of his 700+ paintings to a few friends a week before dieing, I barely knew him but my mum and him were close, they've been friends for years. He gave my mum a creepy elephant painting which she feels is way too strange to be hung on the wall so it's stored in the attic for now, he gave me a strange looking alien/fire gun wielding.. thing (I've only seen him twice, once when I was around 15 years old after he dropped by to speak with my mum and just a week ago when he visited again with the paintings, it's strange that he requested I have this painting). Here is a couple of photos of the picture hung on my wall, my mum wants me to take it down as he only passed away two days ago and they were close friends, she doesn't want to be reminded every time she walks past my room and peeks in. Any ideas as to what it is? He has painted some really weird paintings in the past, the one he gave my mum that she refuses to put up is a bunch of elephants and a few of them are killing their young.
Looks like Van Gogh painted something from Star Wars or something.
Looks like Van Gogh painted something from Star Wars or something.
That really doesn't look like anything Van Gogh would have painted.
That really doesn't look like anything Van Gogh would have painted.
i think it was the face that made me think that. Just like coco911231 posted about it.
was he dyslexic.
So wait wait wait wait... He painted a necron, or something that looks just like one, over 40 years ago? How the fuck?

Godammit. This thread made me spend £7 on Dawn Of War: Dark Crusade.
Godammit. This thread made me spend £7 on Dawn Of War: Dark Crusade.
I bought that a couple days ago too. Good game. ANYHOW yeah I think it's fake because the OP totally disappeared.
wow I like how all the autists can't see that he just painted this of his own volition, and it's not a fucking necron????????????? this just looks like a big gay generic monster alien with a lasergun??????? why does it have to be "stolen" or he must be a time traveler??????? ugh.
Ironically it looks like some sort of Doctor Who enemy.
Red Necron gauss rifle? Blasphemy.
