I've been into Textures a LOT recently, they're a Dutch technical prog-metal band. I'll post some youtube content taken from their two last albums. Their first album is decent as well, but I prefer their new vocalist better than their original which left some time after their first album for some reason. Porcupine Tree Originally started as a joke by frontman Steven Wilson to test his mixing skills and his home studio, Porcupine Tree has developed into one of the most influential and popular modern progressive rock acts around. With 10 albums and about a dozen bootlegs/EPs, they seem to be getting better with each album. While generally described as progressive rock, Porcupine Tree are hard to classify as their music goes from prog rock, to metal, to ambient, to post-rock, to experimental and psychedelic. The musical diversity they create is massive. Members: Steven Wilson - Vocals, Guitars Gavin Harrison - Drums, Percussion Richard Barbieri - Keyboards Colin Edwin - Bass I also love these bands: Tool Dream Theater Riverside Cog The Mars Volta Opeth The Beatles A Perfect Circle
Isn't that pretty much the exact same thing as Tool?
Isn't Velvet Revolver pretty much the exact same thing as Guns 'n' Roses?
Isn't that pretty much the exact same thing as Tool?
It was the band before Tool, so not really. They sound similar, but the music has a different feel to me.
Actually A Perfect Circle was made after Tool.
Deadmau5!
Actually A Perfect Circle was made after Tool.
Right. They went on hiatus in 2004 but didn't they announce they're coming back with new material?
100% Opeth They're an awesome mix of death metal and progressive rock The band consists of 5 members. Mikael Åkerfeldt - Lead guitar and vocals (Also vocalist for the death metal band Bloodbath, which is utterly awesome as well) Fredrik Åkesson - guitar Martin Mendez - bass Martin "Axe" Axenrot - drums (also the drummer for Bloodbath) Per Wiberg - Keyboard An album you should definitely look into is "Damnation", which is pure ear sex, made in the style of 70's progressive rock. For example: Windowpane Death Whispered a Lullaby To Rid The Disease The album's just great. But Opeth's not all about progressive rock, let me show you. Demon of the fall Circle of tyrants The Leper Affinity pt.1 Deliverance and lots and lots more Seriously, if you haven't heard them, check them out!
Isn't Velvet Revolver pretty much the exact same thing as Guns 'n' Roses?
Yes, yes it is. But seriously they sound similar to me, Tool is just a little harder.
They are very similar, but very good.
I don't really have a favourite, I just have a load of bands/artists that I think are bleeding awesome. Even so... Nightwish The band currently consists of: Anette Olzon - Vocals Tuomas Holopainen - Keyboard Marco Hietala - Bass Emppu Vuorinen - Guitar Jukka Nevalainen - Drums Here's some songs: Bye Bye Beautiful: The Islander: Good, eh? It used to be better than this. Much better. All because of this woman: See her? She's Tarja Turunen, who was the vocalist up until 2007. Nightwish were so much freaking better when she was with them, and anette sucks in comparison. Here's some songs to prove my point: Nemo: Over The Hills And Far Away: Bless The Child:
My friend really like Mastadon. I've heard a few of their songs. Dunno the names, but they were alright. I should give them another listen.
I suggest either The Last Baron, Pendulous Skin, or Sleeping Giant for a first time listener Also to whoever is doing so, stop rating things dumb no one cares that your mind is too closed. And one last remark, thanks for turning me onto Opeth Cupup

Alright, my favorite band is NOFX They started up back in 1983, and gave out several low-budget hardcore records in the 80's. Their style mixes skate punk with ska, hardcore, reggae and sometimes, jazz. Bass and Vocals: Fat Mike Lead guitar and trumpet: El Hefe Rythm Guitar: Eric Melvin Drums: Erik Sandin aka Smelly They have released 11 studio albums, and countless EP's Dinosaurs Will Die (2000) Eddie, Bruce and Paul (2008) Bob (1992) Punk Guy (1994) Philthy Phil Philantrophist (1996) The Malachi Crunch (1990)

The Cure Deftones Nine Inch Nails The Birthday Massacre Blur
I god damn love listening to Rush, I like Prog rock alot anyway but Rush takes the biscuit. It may be nerdy sci-fi stuff but god damn that is an awesome song.

Vampire weekend. Genre? Indie, sort of alternative with influences in ska, baroque classical music, and traditional african percussion. Wiki: The members of the band met while attending Columbia University; they then self-produced their first album after graduation while concurrently working full-time jobs. Ezra Koenig and drummer Chris Tomson first collaborated as members of the comedy-rap band "L'Homme Run". They are managed by Ian Montone, who also manages The White Stripes. They are signed to XL Recordings, of which the band said in an interview: "Before any labels had contacted us, we actually mentioned XL as the kind of label we'd ideally like to end up on. Just going on their roster alone, they obviously have good taste and support their artists well." They are super awesome and here's some of their music:
Green Day <3
The Beatles are my favourite band. I really don't think I need to explain about them.

I heard that album is almost the exact same album as Paul Simon's Graceland. That true? edit: They do sound very similar.
S3RL [pronounced "searl", some peeps think it's "surreal"]
DJ S3RL from Brisbane, Australia, has been writing and producing his own tracks since the year 2000. Before this well known Happy Hardcore DJ was discovered he was part of the rave scene, letting loose on the dance floor as a raver and stays close to his rave heritage even today. S3RL scored his first break at the end of 2005. When Kevin Energy and Sharkey came down under, S3RL showed them his skills on one of the many demo cd's he had and it was only weeks later that Kevin Energy got back to him with a contract ready to sign. S3RL was to release his track 'Transformers' on to vinyl under the NuEnergy Collective (NEC) label 'Relentless'. This made S3RL the first DJ in Queensland to be signed to a major hardcore label and not long after he was already mixing it up with names such as Kevin Energy, Brisk, Sharkey, Scott Brown, Neophyte and many more. Since then he has firmly secured his place in DJ Haze's label 'Excecutive Records' in Sydney, Australia as well as the NEC and has had a steady flow of releases on both labels and has had tracks featured on complilations such as 'Bonkers' and 'Masif Hardcore'. All this while showcasing his talent to a world wide audience DJing at events all around Australia and the rest of the world. Having multiple EP's to his name featuring tracks like the smash hit that truly broke him into the scene - 'Pretty Rave Girl' and the follow up track 'Little Kandi Raver', S3RL has also been working with numerous bands from around the world doing re-mixes and collaborations. The most notable is his work with US band 'The Medic Droid' with his remix of their track 'Fer Sure' which also went on to become a worldwide hit. Known 4 his intense stage presence and floor filling musical abilities, be sure to watch out for S3RL as he mixes up a storm and continues to keep the crowd jumping with all his future productions.
S3RL is a musical genius, regardless of his fanbase being comprised of some of the most obnoxious anime faggots in the world that clog up today's hardcore scene. Most people look at him, his song titles, and fans, and see "obnoxious fucking raver from the 90's". If you listen to the music, it is a lot more tasteful than it appears, especially if you're already into happy hardcore. I personally love the melodies that he writes and he knows how to sample without going overboard. He has 3 mixes now on his Myspace blog for free download if you're interested. Each one about an hour long. It's pretty close to a complete collection of all his releases. Artificial Energy - Bassline makes me want to put my dick in my sub-woofer. Trippy breakdown around 1:10 Keep on Ravin' Baby - Awesome at 1:20 Take it or leave it, the music isn't for everyone. Within the genre, he is brilliant.
I saw them live in '06. It was a kickass show. They played with Pepper and The Wailers. They played Omaha Stylee, probably one of my favorite tracks from them. I'm going to see them in November at The Fillmore. I can't wait!
