I live in Kentucky and this question has troubled me my entire life.
Despite being directly north of us and connected to our largest, most modern, and most famous city (Louisville), why the fuck is Indiana so trashy?

It's common to be from places known for accents and not have one, guys, especially growing up with television, you're exposed to the "media accent" which is what most of us call having no accent. That being said, according to linguists, the most neutral accent is apparently from sort of the central midwest. The second closest accent to neutral is from the pacific northwest, which apparently pronounces a couple of very minor things differently. Idk what they are, I've never noticed.
I've actually had a neutral accent for most of my life (barring little things like mashing words together or leaving out the G sound in -ing, very common for people in Massachusetts). In recent months, however, I've found myself leaning more and more towards the Boston accent. It actually kind of started off as a joke just to piss my girlfriend off (she thinks it sounds stupid and I shouldn't be proud of it), but now I'm doing it more and more commonly. Not even on purpose anymore.
Same here, I've just sort of resigned myself to the fact that I will, eventually, have a southern accent.

Pretty cool stuff imo
Congratulations to all you southerners and northeasterners who have managed to adopt more civilized accents by dropping those of your savage ancestry
You realize that NJ is notorious for it's shitty roads, right? I mean so many drivers in NY always make fun of roads in NJ.
That's okay, NY drivers are shit and NJ always makes fun at them.
Vermont drivers go 10-under and slow down to a crawl before turns.
Doesn't help that the roads are so terrible that trying to traverse them is like trying to navigate the grand canyon with a unicycle
Nevada has the nicest roads I have ever had the pleasure of driving on. As soon as you enter the state, you instantly notice how much better the roads there are than the ones you were previously on. I like to imagine it's because Nevada is so goddamn big and empty that all of the tourist/casino money just goes into the Department of Transportation there. Best infrastructure that I've seen.

The rest of the country makes fun of your drivers.
A fucking heating pipe burst, setting off the fire alarm. Had to evacuate the building at 9° with a - 15 windchill.

The say if you can make it in new York you can make it anywhere. Including driving.

When people make fun of New Jersey, they usually are actually talking about North Jersey. That's where all the NY drivers, guidos, Italian mafias and Jersey Shore twats are from.
In the south, we've got pleasant drives through the country side with the biggest issue on the road is getting caught behind a tractor :v:

I hate it when people define South Jersey as Camden and AC when geographically they're so tiny to the whole region.
And we don't talk Camden. For all concerned, Camden is part of Philly that has invaded NJ

NY has the most expedient drivers in these United States.
So I might be heading out to California here in a few weeks. My dad's got a consulting contract for a company out there, and he's got a companion ticket, so I'm thinking about flying out there with him, renting a car, and spending some time being a tourist.
Any suggestions for what to do? I'll be staying around the San Diego area.

Go to the USS Midway in the harbor. One of the best and most exploitable museum ships I've been to in my life. If you like trains, SD also has a wicked train museum, too.

One thing we could probably agree on is the fight between the north and the south.
